बोलि हमारी पूर्व की, हमें लखे नहिं कोय। हमें लखे सो जना, जो धुर पूरब का होय।।१६२२।।
Our speech is of the old kind, but no one understands it. Only those who are deeply rooted in the East understand it.
भंवर जाल बगु जाल है, बूड़े बहुत अचेत। कहहिं कबीर ते बांचिहैं, जाके हृदय विवेक।।१६२३।।
The whirlpool and the net are traps; many drown unconsciously. Kabir says, those who have wisdom in their hearts will be saved.
भंवर विलंबे बाग में, बहु फूलन की बास। ऐसे जिव बिलमे विषय में, अन्तहु चले निरास।।१६२४।।
The whirlpool is delayed in the garden, filled with the scent of many flowers. Similarly, the soul lost in desire eventually becomes disillusioned.
भक्ति पियारी राम की, जैसी प्यारी आगि। सारा पट्टन जरि गया, फिर फिर ल्यावे मागि।।१६२५।।
Devotion to Lord Rama is like a precious fire. The entire town burns down, and one keeps asking for it again and again.
कबिरन भक्ति बिगारीयां, कंकर पत्थर धोय। अंदर में विष राखि के, अमृत डारिन खोय।।१६२६।।
Kabir says that devotion is tainted, washing pebbles and stones. Inside, poison is kept while nectar is lost.
भर्म भरा तिहुँ लोक में, भर्म बसे सब ठाम। कहहिं कबीर कैसे बाचिहौ, जब बसे भर्म के ग्राम।।१६२७।।
The three worlds are filled with illusion; illusion resides everywhere. Kabir asks, how can one escape when illusion is everywhere?
मच्छ बिकाने सब गये, धीमर के दरबार। अंखियां तेरी रतनारी, तुम क्यों पैन्हीं जाल।।१६२८।।
Everyone went to the fish market, to the fisherman’s court. Your eyes are like precious jewels; why then do you wear the net?
मन कहे कहौं जाइये, चित्त कहो कहां जाउं। छव मास के हींडते, आध कोस पर गांउ।।१६२९।।
The mind says go here, the heart says where should I go? After wandering for six months, one still finds oneself in the same place.
तन बोहित मन काग है, लक्ष जोजन उड़ि जाय। कबहुंक भरमे आगम दरिया, कबहूं गगन समाय।।१६३०।।
The body is a boat and the mind is a crow; the goal may fly away. Sometimes the river of delusion is filled, sometimes the sky is reached.
मन गयन्द माने नहीं, चले सरति के साथ। महावत बिचारा क्या करे, जो अंकुश नहिं हाथ।।१६३१।।
The mind does not heed to discipline, it flows along with the current. What can the poor mahavat do, if there is no rein in hand?
मन भर के बोय घुंघची, भर नहिं होय। कहा हमारे माने नहीं, अन्तहु चला विगोय।।१६३२।।
The mind fills with bellows, yet it does not get full. Our desires are insatiable, they eventually lead to loss.
मन मसलन्द गयन्द है, मनसा भो संचार। सांच मन्त्र माने नहीं, उड़ि उड़ि लागि खान।।१६३३।।
The mind is like a wandering vessel, and the thoughts are like transmissions. The true mantra is not understood, it keeps flying away.
मन स्वारथी आपु रस, विषय लहरि फहराय। मन चलाये तन चले, ताते सरबस जाय।।१६३४।।
The selfish mind enjoys itself, while the waves of desire spread. When the mind moves, the body follows, and thus everything perishes.
मनुष्य जन्म दुर्लभ है, होय न दूजी बार। पक्का फल जो गिर परै, बहुरि न लागै डार।।१६३५।।
Human birth is rare and cannot be attained again. Once a ripe fruit falls, it does not return to the branch.
मानष तेरा गुण ही बड़ा, मांस न आवे काज। हाड़ न होते आभरण, त्वचा न बाजन बाज।।१६३६।।
The quality of a human is great; flesh does not serve the purpose. Without bones as ornaments, the skin does not make music.
मानुष केही अथाइया, मति कोइ पठे धाय। एकहि खेत चरत है, बाघ गदहरा गाय।।१६३७।।
The human is deceitful, the intellect sends him astray. He roams in the same field, like a tiger among cows.
मानुष केरी बड़ पापिया, अक्षर गुरुहिं न मान। बार-बार बने कूकही, गर्भ धरे औधान।।१६३८।।
Humans are great sinners, they do not respect the words of the Guru. Repeatedly they become fool, bearing the burden of ignorance.
माया के बस परे, ब्रह्मा विष्णु महेश। नारद सारद सनक सनन्दन, गौरी और गनेश।।१६३९।।
Beyond the control of illusion are Brahma, Vishnu, and Mahesh. Narad, Saraswati, Sanak, Sanandan, Gauri, and Ganesh.
माया जग सापिनि भई, विष ले बैठी आथि। सब जग फंदे फन्दिया, चले कबीरू काछि।।१६४०।।
Illusion has become a snake in the world, sitting with poison. The whole world is caught in its trap, says Kabir.
