Five hours were spent in worldly affairs, three hours in sleep. How can one attain salvation if not even one hour is spent in chanting the name of God?

पाँच पहर धंधे गया, तीन पहर गया सोय। एक पहर हरि नाम बिन, मुक्ति कैसे होय।।७।।
Five hours were spent in worldly affairs, three hours in sleep. How can one attain salvation if not even one hour is spent in chanting the name of God?
हद चाले सो मानव, बेहद चले सो साध। हद-बेहद दोनों तजे, ताको भाव अगाध।।२८।।
A person who follows the rules is human; one who transcends them is a sage. The one who forsakes both boundaries and boundlessness is immersed in divine love.
कहना सो कह दिया, अब कुछ कहा न जाय। एक रहा, दूजा गया, दरिया लहर समाय।।३४।।
I have said what was to be said, now nothing more can be spoken. One (life) remains, the other has merged into the waves of the river.
जो तू चाहे मुक्ति को, छोड़ दे सब आस। मुक्त ही जैसा हो रहे, सब कुछ तेरे पास।।७८।।
If you seek liberation, give up all attachments. The state of liberation will come to you as it is, with nothing left behind.
भूखा भूखा क्या करे, क्या सुनावै लोग। भांडा घड़ निज मुख दिया, सोई पूरन जोग।।८३।।
What can a hungry person do or tell others? The pot is full when it is given from one's own mouth, this is the perfect yoga.
कथा कीर्तन कुल विशे, भव सागर की नाव। कहत कबीरा या जगत, नाहीं और उपाय।।११७।।
Stories and hymns are the essence of the family, the boat across the ocean of existence. Kabir says, this world has no other remedy.
बन्धे को बँनधा मिले, छूटे कौन उपाय। कर संगति निरबन्ध की, पल में लेय छुड़ाय।।१३३।।
One can find bound people bound by bondage, but there is no way to escape. By associating with the unbound, one can be freed instantly.
राम बुलावा भेजिया, दिया कबीरा रोय। जो सुख साधु संग में, सो बैकुंठ न होय।।१४०।।
Ram sent a summons, and Kabir wept. The joy found in the company of saints cannot even be found in paradise.
साँझ पड़े दिन बीतबै, चकवी दीन्ही रोय। चल चकवा वा देश को, जहाँ रैन नहिं होय।।१४३।।
As evening falls, the day passes away, and the chakvi (bird) cries. Go, chakva, to that land where there is no night.
पहुँचेंगे तब कहैगें, उमड़ैंगे उस ठांई। आजहूं बेरा समंद मैं, बोलि बिगू पैं काई।।१६१।।
When we arrive, then we will say, 'We will overflow there.' Even now, at the shore, I am speaking in vain.
कबीर हरि-रस यौं पिया, बाकी रही न थाकि। पाका कलस कुंभार का, बहुरि न चढ़ई चाकि।।१७२।।
Kabir drank the nectar of Hari; nothing else remained. The pot of the potter once baked cannot be put back on the wheel.
पद गाएं मन हरषियां, साषी कह्मां अनंद। सो तत नांव न जाणियां, गल में पड़िया फंद।।१८२।।
The feet dance in joy, the soul rejoices in the divine. But those who do not know the essence, fall into the trap.
जैसी मुख तै नीकसै, तैसी चाले चाल। पार ब्रह्म नेड़ा रहै, पल में करै निहाल।।१८३।।
As is the outward appearance, so are the actions. The Supreme Being is near, and in a moment, one becomes fulfilled.
काजल केरी कोठड़ी, तैसी यहु संसार। बलिहारी ता दास की, पैसिर निकसण हार।।१९७।।
This world is like a room filled with kajal (black dye). I am devoted to the servant who sees beyond the illusion and emerges victorious.
सरगुन की सेवा करो, निरगुन का करो ज्ञान। निरगुन सरगुन के परे, तहीं हमारा ध्यान।।२००।।
Serve the manifest form of God, and gain knowledge of the formless. Beyond the manifest and formless, our focus should be.
क्या काशी क्या ऊसर मगहर, राम हृदय बस मोरा। जो कासी तन तजै कबीरा, रामे कौन निहोरा।।२०२।।
Whether it is Kashi or barren Maghar, my heart resides in Ram. Kabir says, if one leaves Kashi, who will seek Ram?
कबीरा प्याला प्रेम का, अंतर लिया लगाय। रोम रोम में रमि रहा, और अमल क्या खाय।।२०३।।
Kabir's cup is filled with love, which he holds close. Love pervades every part of him, and what is left to consume?
काबा फिर कासी भया, राम भया रे रहीम। मोट चून मैदा भया, बैठि कबीरा जीम।।२२९।।
Kaba has become Kashi, and Ram has become Rahim. The coarse flour has turned fine, and Kabir sits to eat.
कुमति कीच चेला भरा, गुरु ज्ञान जल होय। जनम-जनम का मोरचा, पल में डारे धोय।।२५१।।
The disciple filled with ignorance is like dirt; the Guru's knowledge is like water. It washes away the burden of many lifetimes in an instant.
गुरु बिन ज्ञान न उपजै, गुरु बिन मिलै न मोष। गुरु बिन लखै न सत्य को, गुरु बिन मिटे न दोष।।२५५।।
Without the Guru, knowledge does not arise; without the Guru, liberation is not attained. Without the Guru, truth is not realized, and without the Guru, faults are not removed.
भौ सागर की त्रास तेक, गुरु की पकड़ो बाँहि। गुरु बिन कौन उबारसी, भौ जल धारा माँहि।।२६२।।
To overcome the fear of the ocean of worldly troubles, hold on to the Guru's arm. Without the Guru, who can rescue one from the turbulent waters of life?
करै दूरि अज्ञानता, अंजन ज्ञान सुदेय। बलिहारी वे गुरुन की, हंस उबारि जुलेय।।२६३।।
Ignorance is dispelled through knowledge, and the darkness of ignorance is removed by wisdom. Blessed are those Gurus who save the soul from this ignorance.
बिन सतगुरु उपदेश, सुर नर मुनि नहिं निस्तरे। ब्रह्मा-विष्णु, महेश और सकल जिव को गिनै।।२७२।।
Without the teachings of the true Guru, even gods, humans, and sages do not find salvation. This includes Brahma, Vishnu, Shiva, and all living beings.
सतगुरु खोजो सन्त, जोव काज को चाहहु। मेटो भव को अंक, आवा गवन निवारहु।।२७४।।
Seek the true Guru, O saint, if you wish to achieve your goal. Erase the mark of worldly existence and end the cycle of birth and death.
यह सतगुरु उपदेश है, जो मन माने परतीत। करम भरम सब त्यागि के, चलै सो भव जल जीत।।२७६।।
This is the true Guru's teaching: when the mind fully believes, abandoning all doubts and illusions, one can cross the ocean of worldly existence.
सोचे गुरु के पक्ष में, मन को दे ठहराय। चंचल से निश्चल भया, नहिं आवै नहीं जाय।।२८४।।
When one meditates on the Guru's teachings and steadies the mind, the restless becomes still, neither coming nor going.
शुकदेव सरीखा फेरिया, तो को पावे पार। बिनु गुरु निगुरा जो रहे, पड़े चौरासी धार।।३०१।।
Even if someone as wise as Shukdev wanders around, they cannot cross over without a Guru. Without a Guru, one is bound to fall into the cycle of 84 lakh life forms.
दोय बखत नहिं करि सके, दिन में करूँ इक बार। कबीर साधु दरश ते, उतरैं भव जल पार।।३१३।।
One cannot perform rituals twice a day, but if done once a day, it is sufficient. Kabir says, by seeing the saint, one can cross the ocean of worldly life.
इन अटकाया न रुके, साधु दरश को जाय। कहै कबीर सोई संतजन, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय।।३१७।।
Obstacles cannot stop the visit to a saint. Kabir says, those saints who overcome such hindrances attain liberation and spiritual rewards.
आवत साधु न हरखिया, जात न दीया रोय। कहै कबीर वा दास की, मुक्ति कहाँ से होय।।३२१।।
When a saint arrives, there is no joy or sorrow. Kabir says, where will liberation come for the servant who is indifferent?
सन्त मिले सुख ऊपजै, दुष्ट मिले दुख होय। सेवा कीजै साधु की, जन्म कृतारथ होय।।३५०।।
Meeting saints brings happiness, while meeting the wicked causes sorrow. Serve the saints, and your life will be fulfilled.
मान नहीं अपमान नहीं, ऐसे शीतल सन्त। भव सागर से पार हैं, तोरे जम के दन्त।।३५२।।
A saint who is neither honored nor dishonored is truly calm. Such a saint has crossed the ocean of worldly existence and is unaffected by the teeth of time.
सन्त मता गजराज का, चालै बन्धन छोड़। जग कुत्ता पीछे फिरैं, सुनै न वाको सोर।।३५६।।
A saint's behavior is like that of an elephant, who walks free from bonds. The world’s dogs may follow, but they do not heed the noise.
चाल बकुल की चलत हैं, बहुरि कहावै हंस। ते मुक्ता कैसे चुंगे, पड़े काल के फंस।।३६२।।
The walk of a swan is elegant, but it is still called a duck. How can those who are bound by the traps of time be truly liberated?
भक्ति निसेनी मुक्ति की, संत चढ़े सब आय। नीचे बाधिनि लुकि रही, कुचल पड़े कू खाय।।४१९।।
The ladder of devotion leads to liberation; saints climb it with ease. Below, temptations lurk, waiting to trap those who fall.
डर करनी डर परम गुरु, डर पारस डर सार। डरत रहै सो ऊबरे, गाफिल खाई मार।।४३२।।
Fear is necessary for the supreme guru, fear of the philosopher’s stone and essence. Those who live in fear will overcome it; the careless will face punishment.
ज्ञानी होय सो मानही, बूझै शब्द हमार। कहैं कबीर सो बाँचि है, और सकल जमधार।।४३९।।
The wise accept and understand our words. Kabir says that he is beyond the entire cycle of birth and death.
संसै काल शरीर में, जारि करै सब धूरि। काल से बांचे दास जन, जिन पै द्दाल हुजूर।।४४५।।
Death resides within the body, burning everything to dust. But those who have the Lord's grace are saved from it.
गगन दमामा बाजिया, पड़े निसाने घाव। खेत बुहारे सूरमा, मोहे मरण का चाव।।४५८।।
The sky reverberates with drums, but the marks of wounds remain. The field is ploughed by warriors, I yearn for death.
सूरा सोई सराहिये, लड़े मुक्ति के हेत। पुर्जा पुर्जा कट पड़े, तो भी ना छाड़े खेत।।४५९।।
The brave person is praised, who fights for liberation. Even if torn piece by piece, he does not abandon the field.
आपा मेटे हरि मिले, हरि मेटे सब जाई। अकथ कहानी प्रेम की, कोई नहीं पतियाय।।४६३।।
When the self is erased, one meets the Divine. When the Divine is realized, everything else fades away. The story of love is beyond words; no one understands it.
गुरु की आज्ञा आवई, गुरु की आज्ञा जाय। कहैं कबीर सो संत है, आवागमन नशाय।।४७३।।
Obedience to the Guru's command brings liberation, and thus one is free from the cycle of birth and death.
गुरु महिमा गावत सदा, मन राखे अति मोद। सो भव फिर आवै नहीं, बैठे प्रभु की गोद।।४७४।।
Constantly singing the glory of the Guru, and keeping the mind in great joy, one does not return to the cycle of rebirth but remains in the Lord’s embrace.
पंडित पढि़ गुनि पचि मुये, गुरु बिन मिले न ज्ञान। ज्ञान बिना नहिं मुक्ति है, सत्त सब्द परमान।।४८७।।
The learned scholar may read and know many scriptures, but without the Guru, true knowledge is unattainable. Without knowledge, liberation is not possible; truth is beyond mere words.
बिन सद्गुरु बाचै नहीं, फिर बूड़े भव मांहि। भौसागर की त्रास से, सतगुरु पकड़े बाहि।।४९९।।
Without the True Guru, one cannot escape the cycle of birth and death. The True Guru holds your hand to save you from the fear of the worldly ocean.
कबीर समुझा कहत है, पानी थाह बताय। ताकूं सतगुरु को करे, जो औघट डूबे जाय।।५०५।।
Kabir explains that one should seek the true Guru who can reveal the depth of the water, as without the Guru, even the skilled swimmer will drown.
सतगुरु सम कोई नहीं, सात दीप नौ खण्ड। तीन लोक न पाइये, अरु इक-इस ब्रह्मण्ड।।५०६।।
There is no comparison to the true Guru, who is like seven lamps in nine realms. One cannot find the Guru even in the three worlds or this entire universe.
गुरु नाम है गम्य का, शीष सीख ले सोय। बिनु पद बिनु मरजाद नर, गुरु शीष नहिं कोय।।५१५।।
The Guru's name is the destination; only those who learn by bowing down can reach it. Without a path or dignity, a person cannot be a true disciple.
सांचे गुरु के पक्ष में, मन को दे ठहराय। चंचल से निश्चल भया, नहिं आवै नहिं जाय।।५२७।।
In the presence of a true guru, calm the restless mind. When made still, it neither comes nor goes.
बंधे को बंधा मिला, छूटै कौन उपाय। कर सेवा निरबंध की, पल में लेत छुड़ाय।।५३०।।
The bound one finds bondage, who has the means to escape? Serve the unbound, and in a moment, you will be freed.
ऐसा कोई ना मिला, हम को दे उपदेश। भवसागर में डूबते, कर गहि काढे केश।।५३५।।
I did not find anyone to guide me. Drowning in the ocean of existence, I grasped my hair.
जैसा ढूंढत में फिरुं, तैसा मिला न कोय। ततवेता तिरंगुन रहित, निरगुन सों रत होय।।५३६।।
What I sought, I did not find. The seeker remains absorbed in the formless, without traits.
साकट ते संत होत है, जो गुरु मिले सुजान। राम-नाम निज मंत्र दे, छुड़ावै चारों खान।।५४२।।
A non-believer can become a saint if they meet a wise Guru. The Guru gives them the mantra of God's name, freeing them from worldly bonds.
शुकदेव सरिखा फेरिया, तो को पावै पारा। गुरु बिन निगुरा जो रहै, पड़े चौरासी धार।।५५७।।
One who circulates like Shukdev finds the essence. Without a guru, one remains a wanderer and suffers through eighty-four lakhs of births.
कबीर दर्शन साधु का, बड़े भाग दरशाय। जो होवै सूली सजा, कांटे ई टरि जाय।।५५८।।
The vision of a saint is a great fortune. The one who suffers punishment like the cross, has their thorns removed.
दोख बखत नहिं करि सके, दिन में करु इक बार। कबीर साधु दरश ते, उतरे भौजल पार।।५६४।।
One cannot accomplish anything in a short time; do it at least once a day. Kabir says, through the sight of a saint, one can cross the ocean of life.
दूजे दिन नहिं करि सके, तीजे दिन करु जाय। कबीर साधु दरश ते, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय।।५६६।।
If you cannot do it the next day, then do it on the third day. Kabir says, through the sight of a saint, one can attain liberation and salvation.
बरस-बरस नहिं करि सकै, ताको लागे दोष। कहैं कबीर वा जीव सो, कबहु न पावै मोष।।५७०।।
If one cannot do it year after year, they are at fault. Kabir says, such a soul will never attain liberation.
साधु मिले यह सब टलै, काल-हाल जम चोट। शीश नवावत ढहि परै, अघ्ज्ञ पापन के पोट।।५७३।।
All troubles are alleviated when one meets a saint. Time, circumstances, and death are but minor inconveniences. When one bows to a saint, the burden of sins is lifted.
टूका माही टक दे, चीर माहि सो चीर। साधु देत न सकुचिये, यों कथि कहहिं कबीर।।५९०।।
One stitch in the cloth makes it whole. Do not hesitate to give; this is what Kabir says.
आज काल दिन पांच में, बरस पांच जुग पंच। जब तब साधु तारसी, और सकल परपंच।।५९५।।
In this era of five days, five years, and five ages, saints will continue to save and transcend all deceptions.
तूटै बरत अकास सों, कौन सकत है झेल। साधु सती और सूर का, अनी ऊपर का खेल।।६१२।।
Just as one cannot bear the destruction of the sky, so too is the play of the saint, sage, and hero beyond ordinary understanding.
एक घड़ी आधी घड़ी, आधी में पुनि आध। कबीर संगत साधु की, कटै कोटि अपराध।।६५७।।
One moment, half a moment, and within half a moment, another half. The company of saints, even for a short time, erases countless sins.
निरबन्धन बंधा रहै, बंधा निरबंध होय। कर्म करै करता नहीं, दास कहावै सोय।।६८५।।
The one who is bound by ties is bound by no ties at all. A person who does not perform actions is called a true servant.
लगा रहै सतज्ञान सो, सबही बन्धन तोड़। कहैं कबीर वा दास सो, काल रहै हथ जोड़।।६८६।।
One who is absorbed in true knowledge breaks all bonds. Kabir says, such a person is a true servant and remains safe from the clutches of time.
सुख दुख सिर ऊपरे सहै, कबहु न छाड़े संग। रंग न लागै और का, व्यापै सतगुरु रंग।।६८९।।
One who endures both pleasure and pain without abandoning their association, is dyed in the true color of the Guru, which is beyond all other hues.
गुरु समरथ सिर पर खड़े, कहा कमी तोहि दास। रिद्धि-सिद्धि सेवा करैं, मुक्ति न छाड़े पास।।६९५।।
The Guru stands supreme; what deficiency do you perceive, O servant? Wealth and powers may serve, but they do not abandon the pursuit of liberation.
निर्पक्षी की भक्ति है, निर्मोही को ज्ञान। निरद्वंदी की मुक्ति है, निर्लोभी निर्बान।।६९८।।
Devotion of the impartial brings knowledge; the knowledge of the detached leads to liberation. The free from conflict attain final peace.
जाति बरन कुल खोय के, भक्ति करै चितलाय। कहैं कबीर सतगुरु मिले, आवागमन निशाय।।७०५।।
One who performs devotion by renouncing caste, class, and lineage achieves true devotion. Kabir says, upon meeting the true guru, one escapes the cycle of birth and death.
भक्ति पदारथ तब मिले, जब गुरु होय सहाय। प्रेम प्रीति की भक्ति जो, पूरण भाग मिलाय।।७०७।।
The essence of devotion is attained when the guru supports it. Devotion filled with love and affection brings about complete fulfillment.
भक्ति-बीज पलटै नहीं, जो जुग जाय अनन्त। ऊंच नीच घर अवतरै, होय सन्त का सन्त।।७१३।।
The seed of devotion does not change, even if ages pass. It transcends all distinctions of high and low, as it is the true saint’s quality.
आरत है गुरु भक्ति करु, सब कारज सिध होय। करम जाल भौजाल में, भक्त फंसे नहि कोय।।७१५।।
If one is devoted to the guru, all tasks will be fulfilled. In the web of actions, no devotee will be ensnared.
भक्ति जु सीढ़ी मुक्ति की, चढ़े भक्त हरषाय। और न कोई चढि सकै, निज मन समझो आय।।७१७।।
Devotion is the ladder to liberation, and the devotee climbs it with joy. No other can climb this ladder; understand this in your own mind.
भक्ति निसैनी मुक्ति की, संत चढ़े सब धाय। जिन जिन मन आलस दिया, जनम जनम पछिताय।।७१९।।
Devotion is the key to liberation; saints all follow this path. Those who remain lazy in their minds will regret for lifetimes.
भक्ति दुवारा सांकरा, राई दशवें भाय। मन तो मैंगल होय रहा, कैसे आवै जाय।।७२३।।
Devotion is the pillar of support; without it, all efforts are futile. If the mind is impure, how can it achieve liberation?
माला सांस उसांस की, फेरै कोई निज दास। चौरासी भरमै नहीं, कटै करम की फांस।।७३४।।
The rosary is like the breath and exhalation; it is only used by a devoted servant. In the cycle of 84 lakh births, it does not cut the threads of karma.
जो कोय सुमिरन अंग को, निशिवासर करै पाठ। कहैं कबीर सो संत जन, सन्धै औघट घाट।।७३६।।
Whoever constantly remembers the limbs of the body and practices daily, Kabir says that such a person is a true saint, transcending all doubts and dilemmas.
नाम रतन धन पाय के, गांठी बांध न खोल। नहिं पाटनहिं पार भी, नहिं गाहक नहिं मोल।।७३९।।
The name is a precious jewel, but once it is obtained, it cannot be bound or sold. It cannot be used for trading or profit.
नाम लिया जिन सब लिया, सब सास्त्रन को भेद। बिना नाम नरके गये, पढ़ि गुनि चारों वेद।।७४४।।
Those who have taken the name have understood all the scriptures' secrets. Without the name, even those learned in the Vedas go to hell.
कोटि नाम संसार में, ताते मुक्ति न होय। आदि नाम जो गुप्त जप, बिरला जाने कोय।।७४९।।
In the world, countless names are uttered, but liberation is not achieved through them. Only the hidden and ancient name that is secretly recited is known to very few.
राम नाम को सुमिरता, ऊधरे पतित अनेक। कबीर कबहू नहिं छाड़िये, राम नाम की टेक।।७५१।।
By meditating on the name of Rama, many fallen souls are uplifted. Kabir says, never abandon the support of Rama's name.
कबीर हरि-हरि सुमिरि ले, प्राण जाहिंगे छूट। घर के प्यारे आदमी, चलते लेंगे लूट।।७५८।।
Kabir says that by remembering Hari (God), one's soul is liberated. Those who are dear at home may end up taking away the loot (worldly gains).
जसे माया मन रमैं, तैसा राम रमाय। तारा मण्डल बेधि के, तब अमरापुर जाय।।७६६।।
As the mind dwells in illusion, so does Ram dwell in the heart. When you pierce the cosmic sphere, you reach the eternal abode.
एक राम को जानि करि, दूजा देह बहाय। तीरथ व्रत जप तप नहीं, सतगुरु चरण समाय।।७६८।।
By knowing the one Ram, discard the second (body). Pilgrimages, vows, chants, and penance are not needed; merge with the feet of the true Guru.
सुमिरन सों मन लाइये, जैसे दीप पतंग। प्राण तजे छिन एक में, जरत न मोरै अंग।।७७३।।
Let the mind be focused in remembrance like a moth to the flame. Even if the life is sacrificed for a moment, it does not burn the body.
पूंजि मेरी राम है, जाते सदा निहाल। कबीर गरजे पुरुष बल, चोरी करै न काल।।७८२।।
My wealth is Ram, who is always prosperous. Kabir roars like a strong man; time cannot steal from him.
आदि नाम पारस अहै, मन है मैला लोह। परसत ही कंचन भया, छूटा बन्धन मोह।।७८४।।
The primal name is like the philosopher's stone, the mind is impure iron. Upon its touch, it becomes gold, and the bonds of illusion are broken.
लूटि सके तो लूटि ले, राम नाम की लूट। फिर पाछे पछताहुगे, प्राण जाहिंगे छूट।।७८५।।
Steal if you can, steal the loot of Ram's name. In the end, you will regret; the soul will be liberated.
माला मेरै कह भयो, हिरदा गांठि न खोय। गुरु चरनन चित राखिये, तो अमरापुर जोय।।७८६।।
What use is the rosary to me if the heart is not free of knots? Keep the mind fixed on the Guru's feet, and you will attain the immortal abode.
अस औरसर नहिं पाइहो, धरो राम कड़िहार। भौ सागर तरि जाव जब, पलक न लागे बार।।७८९।।
There is no other way to cross, hold onto the Ram's name firmly. When you cross the ocean of worldly life, not even a moment will be wasted.
कोटि करम कटि पलक में, रंचन आवै राम। जुग अनेक जो पुन्य करु, नहिं राम बिनु ठाम।।७९१।।
Countless actions are cut away in a moment if Ram is attained. Even if countless eons of merit are accumulated, nothing is attained without Ram.
जहां प्रेम तह नेम नहीं, तहां न बुधि व्यवहार। प्रेम मगन जब मन भया, कौन गिनै तिथि वार।।७९६।।
Where there is love, there are no rules; where there is no understanding or behavior. When the mind is immersed in love, who counts the days and dates?
प्रेम भक्ति में रचि रहैं, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय। शब्द मांहि जब मिलि रहै, नहिं आवै नहिं जाय।।८०३।।
Love, when immersed in devotion, brings the fruit of liberation and salvation. When it merges with the word, it neither comes nor goes.
मोर तोर की जेवरी, गल बंधा संसार। दास कबीरा क्यों बंधौ, जाके नाम अधार।।८४६।।
The jewel of 'mine' and 'yours' binds the world. Why should I, the servant Kabir, be bound, when I rely on the name of Ram?
मन मूआ माया मुई, संशय मुआ शरीर। अविनाशी जो ना मरे, तो क्यों मरे कबीर।।८५१।।
The mind is dead, illusion is dead, and doubt has killed the body. The imperishable one does not die; then why does Kabir die?
जिनके नौबत बाजती, मैंगल बंधति बारि। एकहि गुरु के नाम बिन, गये जनम सब हारि।।८५३।।
Those whose trumpet sounds, and who are bound by worldly bonds. Without the name of the one Guru, all their lives are lost.
झूठा सब संसार है, कोउ न अपना मीत। राम नाम को जानि ले, चलै सो भौजल जीत।।९२६।।
The whole world is false, no one is a true friend. Knowing the name of Ram, one can cross the ocean of worldly existence.
भय बिन भाव न ऊपजै, भय बिनु होय न प्रीति। जब हिरदे से भय गया, मिटी सकल रस रीति।।९३६।।
Without fear, emotions do not arise, without fear there is no love. When fear departs from the heart, all the essence and rituals vanish.
रितु बसंत याचक भया, हरखि दिया द्रुम पात। ताते नव पल्लव भया, दिया दर नहिं जात।।९४७।।
The season of spring has become a beggar, delighting the trees with its leaves. From this, new shoots have emerged, and no one has gone to the door.
तीन ताप में ताप हैं, ताका अनंत उपाय। ताप आतम महाबली, संत बिना नहिं जाय।९५४।।
There are three types of heat, and countless remedies for them. But the heat of the self can only be resolved by a true saint.
राम नाम सुमिरन करै, सतगुरु पद निज ध्यान। आतम पूजा जीव दया, लहै सो मुक्ति अमान।।९८५।।
Chant the name of Ram and meditate on the true Guru's feet. Worship the soul, show compassion to all beings, and attain liberation.
यही बड़ाई शब्द की, जैसे चुम्बक भाय। बिना शब्द नहिं ऊबरै, केता करै उपाय।।९९०।।
This is the greatness of the word, like a magnet's attraction. Without the word, one cannot be saved, no matter the measures taken.
शीतलता तब जानिये, समता रहै समाय। विष छोड़ै निरबिस रहै, सब दिन दूखा जाय।।९९७।।
True coolness is known when the mind remains in equanimity. By renouncing poison and staying free from it, all sorrow disappears.
काल फिरै सिर ऊपरै, जीवहि नजरि न आय। कहैं कबीर गुरु शब्द गहि, जम से जीव बचाय।।१००२।।
Death hovers above, unseen by the living. Kabir says, hold on to the guru's word, it saves the soul from death.
कर्म फंद जग फंदिया, जप तप पूजा ध्यान। जाहि शब्द ते मुक्ति होय, सो न परा पहिचान।।१००४।।
The world is trapped in the snares of karma, rituals, and meditation. They fail to recognize the word that leads to liberation.
टीला टीली ढाहि के, फोरि करै मैदान। समझ सका करता चलै, सोई शब्द निरबान।।१०१४।।
Breaking down the hills and leveling the field, one who understands the creator walks the path of liberation.
कबीर सार शब्द निज जानि के, जिन कीन्ही परतीति। काग कुमत तजि हंस ह्वै, चले सु भौजल जीति।।१०२३।।
Kabir says, those who realize the essence of the word and have faith, leave the crow's mentality and become swans, crossing the ocean of life.
जीवन में मरना भला, जो मरि जानै कोय। मरना पहिले जो मरै, अजर अमर सो होय।।१०२९।।
It is better to die while living, if one knows how. One who dies before death, becomes eternal and immortal.
जब लग आश शरीर की, मिरतक हुआ न जाय। काया माया मन तजै, चौडे़ रहा बजाय।।१०३१।।
As long as there is attachment to the body, one is not truly dead. When one renounces body, illusion, and mind, they achieve true liberation.
पांचों इन्द्रिय छठा मन, सम संगत सूचंत। कहैं कबीर जग क्या करे, सातों गांठ निश्चिन्त।।१०३३।।
The five senses and the mind together make six, with the right company, Kabir says, the seven knots become free of worries.
भक्त मरे क्या रोइये, जो अपने घर जाय। रोइये साकट बापुरे, हाटों हाट बिकाय।।१०३४।।
Why weep when a devotee dies, for they return home. Weep for the unfortunate non-believer, who is sold in the marketplace of the world.
मैं जानूं मन मरि गया, मरि के हुआ भूत। मूये पीछे उठि लगा, ऐसा मेरा पूत।।१०३७।।
I thought my mind was dead and became a ghost. But after dying, it arose again, just like my own child.
सुर सती का सहज है, घड़ी इक का घमसान। मरै न जीवै मरजिवा, धमकत रहे मसान।।१०३९।।
The state of a true saint is natural, but it can be turbulent for a moment. Neither fully dead nor alive, they hover around the cremation ground.
चाकी चली गुपाल की, सब जग पीसा झार। रुड़ा शब्द कबीर का, डारा पाट उघार।।१०४७।।
The mill of Gopal grinds the entire world, separating the wheat from the chaff. The words of Kabir act as a block that opens the mill's jaws.
खुलि खेलो संसार में, बांधि न सक्कै कोय। घाट जगाती क्या करै, सिर पर पोट न होय।।१०५७।।
Play freely in the world; no one can bind you. What can a riverbank do, when there is no pot on the head?
संसै काल शरीर में, जारि केर सब धूर। काल से बांच दास जन, जिन पै दयाल हजूर।।१०७७।।
Time is burning in the body, turning everything to dust. The servant who is saved from time, is blessed by the compassionate Lord.
जिनके नाम निशान है, तिन अटकावै कौन। पुरुष खजाना पाइया, मिटि गया आवा गौन।।१०८६।।
Those who have a name and mark, who can obstruct them? The man who has found the treasure, the past and future become insignificant.
अकथ कथा या मनहि की, कहैं कबीर समुझाय। जो याको समझा परै, ताको काल न खाय।।११२१।।
The story of the unspoken is told by Kabir. Those who understand it are not consumed by time.
सुर नर मुनि सबको ठगै, मनहिं लिया औतार। जो कोई याते बच, तीन लोक ते न्यार।।११२२।।
The gods, humans, and sages all deceive, taking the mind as their vehicle. Those who escape this deception are beyond the three worlds.
यह मन हरि चरणे चला, माया-मोह से छूट। बेहद माहीं घर किया, काल रहा शिर कूट।।११३५।।
This mind has turned towards the Lord's feet, freed from illusion and attachment. It has settled in the infinite, while time remains bound to the head.
मन पंखी बिन पंख का, जहां तहा उड़ि जाय। मन भावे ताको मिले, घट में आन समाय।।११३७।।
The mind is like a bird without wings, flying wherever it wishes. The mind finds what it desires, and remains in the same place.
कागद केरी नावरी, पानी केरी गंग। कहै कबीर कैसे तिरै, पांच कुसंगी संग।।११५४।।
The paper boat and the water of the Ganges are alike. Kabir asks, how can one cross over with five bad companions?
इन पांचौ से बंधिया, फिर फिर धरै शरीर। जो यह पांचौं बसि करै, सोई लागै तीर।।११५५।।
Bound by these five senses, the body repeatedly takes birth. He who controls these five senses, crosses over to safety.
कबीर माया पापिनी, फंद ले बैठी हाट। सब जग तो फदै पड़ा, गया कबीरा काट।।११६६।।
Kabir says, illusion is sinful and has set up a trap in the marketplace. The whole world is caught in it, and Kabir has escaped.
छाडै बिन छूटै नहीं, छोड़न हारा राम। जीव जतन बहुतरि करै, सरे न एकौ काम।।११६७।।
Without leaving it behind, one cannot be free; the one who abandons is Ram. The soul may make many efforts, but none are effective.
झीनी माया जिन तजी, मोटी गई बिलाय। ऐसे जन के निकट से, सब दु:ख गये हिराय।।११७४।।
Those who have abandoned the subtle illusion become free from the gross troubles. From the proximity of such a person, all sorrows disappear.
माया दीपक नर पतंग, भ्रमि भ्रमि माहिं परन्त। कोई एक गुरु ज्ञानते, उबरे साधु सन्त।।११८१।।
Illusion is like a lamp and humans are like moths, wandering and burning. Only one true guru’s knowledge can help a saint escape.
कबीर माया मोहिनी, सब जग छाला छानि। कोइ एक साधु ऊबरा, तोडी कुल की कानि।।११९८।।
Kabir says, illusion is enchanting and has deceived the whole world. Only a few saints have managed to break free from its clutches, rescuing their lineage.
भूले थे संसार में, माया के संग आय। सतगुरु राह बताइया, फेरि मिलै तिहि जाय।।१२००।।
Having wandered in the world lost in illusion, one comes under its influence. The true guru shows the way, leading to liberation from its grip.
मोह फंद सब फंदिया, कोय न सके निवार। कोई साधु जन पारखी, बिरला तत्व विचार।।१२१२।।
Desire is the net of all nets; no one can escape it. Only a few wise saints, who have truly contemplated the essence, can understand it.
जब घट मोह समाइया, सबै भया अंधियार। निर्मोह ज्ञान विचार के, साधु उतरे पार।।१२१५।।
When the illusion of desire fills the vessel, everything becomes dark. Only those who have transcended illusion through knowledge and contemplation reach the other shore.
मोह नदी विकराल है, कोई न उतरै पार। सतगुरु केवट साथ ले, हंस होय जम नार।।१२१७।।
The river of illusion is vast and no one can cross it alone. With the guide of the true Guru, one can become a swan and cross the river of death.
मोह सलिल की धार में, बहि गये गहिर गंभीर। सूक्ष्म मछली सुरति है, चढ़ती उल्टी नीर।।१२१८।।
In the current of the river of illusion, many have been carried away deeply. The subtle fish of awareness swims against the current of the water.
एक मोह के कारनै, भरत धरी दो देह। ते नर कैसे छूटिहैं, जिनके बहुत सनेह।।१२२०।।
Due to a single illusion, Bharat had to take two bodies. How can those who are deeply attached ever escape?
कहता हूं कहि जात हूं, मानै नहीं गंवार। बैरागी गिरही कहा, कामी वार न पार।।१२२६।।
I speak and go away, but the foolish do not accept it. How can a renunciant in a household and a desirous person cross the boundary?
काम कहर असवार है, सबकों मारै धाय। कोई एक हरिजन ऊबरा, जाके नाम सहाय।।१२२९।।
Desire is a devastating calamity, it destroys everyone. Only a few saints, whose names are remembered, escape its effect.
भग भोगै भग ऊपजे, भगते बचै न कोय। कहैं कबीर भगते बचै, भक्त कहावै सोय।।१२३०।।
Enjoyment and desire both arise from fate, but no one is saved by mere devotion. Kabir says, only those who are truly devoted can escape.
मद अभिमान न कीजिये, कहैं कबीर समुझाय। जा सिर अहं जु संचरे, पड़े चौरासी जाय।।१२५०।।
Do not be proud or arrogant, says Kabir. If pride and arrogance reside in the mind, one remains in the cycle of 84 lakh births.
जो कोई निन्दै साधु को, संकट आवै सोय। नरक जाये जन्मै मरै, मुक्ति कबहुं नहिं होय।।१२८७।।
One who criticizes the saint will face hardships. Such a person will go to hell, and liberation will never be attained.
कबीर निन्दक मरि गया, अब क्या कहिये जाय। ऐसा कोई नाम मिला, बीड़ा लेय उठाय।।१२९२।।
Kabir says, the critic is dead, what more can be said? Such a name is found that lifts the burden from one’s shoulders.
करनी गर्व निवारनी, मुक्ति स्वारथी सोय। कथनी तजि करनी करै, तब मुक्ताहल होय।।१३१६।।
Actions remove pride, and those seeking liberation should act selflessly. By abandoning mere words and focusing on actions, one achieves liberation.
तेरा बैरी कोइ नहीं, तेरा बैरी फैल। अपने फैल मिटाय ले, गली-गली कर सैल।।१३३७।।
There is no enemy except yourself. Eliminate your own faults, and move about freely in the world.
चहै अकास पताल जा, फोड़ि जाहु ब्रह्मण्ड। कहैं कबीर मिटिहै नहीं, देह धरे का दण्ड।।१३४३।।
Even if you break through the skies and the earth, and shatter the universe, Kabir says, he will not be destroyed, nor his body affected.
पंख होत परबस पर्यो, सूवा के बुधि नाहिं। अकिल बिहूना आदमी, यों बन्धा जग माहिं।।१३५२।।
Even with wings, the bird is controlled and lacks intelligence. A foolish and ignorant person is similarly trapped in the world.
सीक भई संसार थैं, चले जु सांई पास। अविनासी मोहि ले चल्या, पुरई मेरी आस।।१४२५।।
The world is just a lesson, and I have moved on to my Lord's presence. The eternal one has taken me, fulfilling my hope.
इंन्द्रलोक अचरिज भया, ब्रह्मा पड्या विचार। कबीर चाल्या राम पैं, कोतिगहार अपार।।१४२६।।
Even Indra was amazed, and Brahma pondered deeply. Kabir has moved beyond the realm of Ram, reaching the boundless divine abode.
ऊंचा चढ़ि असमान कू, मेरु ऊलंघे ऊड़ि। पशु पंषेरू जीव जंत, सब रहें मेर में बूड़ि।।१४२७।।
Rising above the sky and crossing Mount Meru, all creatures, birds, and beings are immersed in this infinite realm.
भौ समंद विष जल भरया, मन नहीं बांधै धीर। सबल सनेही हरि मिले, तब उतरे पारि कबीर।।१४३२।।
The ocean is filled with poisonous water, but the mind cannot be contained. When the strong and loving Lord is found, then Kabir crosses over.
भला सहेला ऊतरया, पूरा मेरा भाग। राम नांव नौंका गह्या, तब पांणी पंक न लाग।।१४३३।।
The boat has safely crossed, and my fortune is complete. Holding the name of Ram as the boat, I have crossed the muddy waters.
कबीर साथी सो किया, जाके सुख दुख नहीं कोइ। हिलि मिलि ह्वै करि खेलिस्यूं, कदे बिछोह न होइ।।१४३६।।
Kabir says that the true companion is one with whom there is no sorrow or joy. Together in unity, playing and merging, there is never any separation.
अंकूर ते बीज बीज ते अंकुर, अंकुर बीज संभारे। काया ते कर्म कर्म ते काया, कोई बिरला जना निखारे।।१४३९।।
From the sprout comes the seed, and from the seed comes the sprout. Similarly, from the body comes action, and from action comes the body; few understand this.
ए मरजीवा अमृत पीवा, क्यों धसि मरसि पताल। गुरु की दया साधु की संगति, निकरि आव एहि द्वार।।१४६५।।
O living dead, you have drunk the nectar of immortality. Why then are you sinking into the underworld? Through the grace of the Guru and the company of saints, you can emerge from this door.
कबीर का घर शिखर पर, जहां सिलहली गैल। पांव न टिके पिपिलि का, तहां खलकोन लादा बैल।।१४७०।।
Kabir's home is at the peak, where the path is slippery. Even an ant cannot stand firm there, how can the wicked load a bull?
काला सर्प शरीर में , खाई सब जग झारि। बिरला ते जन बांचिहें, जो रामहिं भजे विचारि।।१४८१।।
A black serpent resides within the body, consuming everything in the world. Only a few rare souls will survive, who meditate on Lord Ram.
कृष्ण समीपी पांडवा, गले हिमालय जाय। लोहा को पारस मिले, तो काहे काई खाय।।१४८५।।
Even though the Pandavas were close to Krishna, they still went to the Himalayas. When iron meets the philosopher's stone, why would it eat rust?
गुरु माथे से उतरे, शब्द विमूखा होय। बाको काल घसीटि है, राखि सकै नहिं कोय।।१४९४।।
When the Guru's teachings are removed from one's mind, and one turns away from the words, death drags that person, and no one can save them.
जहिया जन्म मुक्ता हता, तहिया हता न कोय। छठी तुम्हारी हौं जगा, तू कह चला वियोग।।१५१७।।
When you were born free, there was no separation. On your sixth day, I awakened, but now you speak of separation.
जेहि वन सिंध न संचरे, पक्षी नहिं उड़ि जाय। सो वन कबिरन्हि हींडिया, शून्य समाधि लगाय।।१५३६।।
The forest where the ocean does not flow and birds do not fly, is like a forest of Kabir, immersed in void and meditation.
नहिं हीरा की बोरियां, नहिं हंसन की पांति। सिंघहु के लहड़ा नहीं, साधु न चले जमाति।।१५७७।।
There are no bags of diamonds, nor a procession of swans. The lion’s roar cannot be compared, nor can a saint be bound by rituals.
बहुबंधन के बंधिया, एक विचारा जीव। के छूटे बल आपने, के छुड़ावे पीव।।१६१०।।
Bound by many ties, the soul ponders. Some may free themselves, while others need help from the beloved to be liberated.
भंवर जाल बगु जाल है, बूड़े बहुत अचेत। कहहिं कबीर ते बांचिहैं, जाके हृदय विवेक।।१६२३।।
The whirlpool and the net are traps; many drown unconsciously. Kabir says, those who have wisdom in their hearts will be saved.
लाई लावनहार की, जाकी लाई पर जरे। बलिहारी लावनहार की, छप्पर वाचे घर जरे।।१६६८।।
One who brings spices burns the house where the spice is used. How great is the one who brings the spice, even if the roof of the house is burned.
लाहा केरी नावरी, पाहन गरुवा भार। सिर पर विष की पोटरी, उतरन चाहे पार।।१६७१।।
The burden of iron is heavy, and the stone weighs down. The pot of poison on the head desires to cross over.
विरह की ओदी लाकरी, सपचे औ धुंधवाय। दुख ते तब ही बांचिहो, जब सकलो जरि जाय।।१६७२।।
The wood of separation is burning, causing true pain and confusion. One will only be freed from suffering when everything is burned away.
मसो कागद छुवो नहीं, कलम धरो नहिं हाथ। चाहिहुं युग को महातम, कबीर मुखहिं जनाई बात।।१६८६।।
I do not touch paper or hold a pen in my hand. If you want to know the greatness of the ages, Kabir speaks it with his mouth.
स्वर्ग पताल के बीच में, दुई तंबिरया विध्द। षट दर्शन संशय परे, लक्ष चौरासी सिद्ध।।१६९४।।
Between heaven and earth, there are two paths. Beyond the six philosophies and doubts, there is a goal of 84 perfections.
हंसा सरवरि तजि चले, देही पारिगौ सून। कहहिं कबीर सुनहु हौ सन्तो, ते दर तेई थून।।१७११।।
The swan leaves the lake and goes to the empty shore. Kabir says, listen, O saints, there are thirty-three doors at that threshold.
हद चले ते मानवा, बेहद चले सो साधु। हद बेहद दोनों तजे, ताकी मती अगाधु।।१७१२।।
The limited man travels to the extent, the limitless goes beyond. Both limit and beyond are abandoned by the one with deep understanding.
हाड़ जरत जैसे लाकरी, केस जरे जैसे घास। कबीरा जरे रामरस, कोठी जरे कपास।।१७१४।।
Just as wood burns and hair burns like grass, Kabir says, the essence of Ram burns, and the mansion burns like cotton.
हिलगी भाल शरीर महं, तीर रहा है टूट। चुम्बक बिनु निकसै नहीं, कोटि पाहन गौ छूट।।१७१६।।
The body may be trembling, and the arrow may be breaking. Without the magnet, stones cannot be released, even a crore stones are bound.
हौं बिरहा की लाकड़ी, समझि समझि धूंधाउं। छूटि पड़ौं यों बिरह तैं, जे सारीही जलि जाउं।।१७७२।।
I am like a log of separation, searching for understanding. I would be free from this separation if I could burn completely.
परबति परबति मैं फिरया, नैंन गंवाये रोइ। सो बूटी पाऊं नहीं, जातैं जीवनि होइ।।१७७५।।
I wandered from mountain to mountain, weeping and losing my eyes. I cannot find that herb, which would make my life complete.
वेड़ा पाया सरप का, भौसागर के मांह। जै छाडों तो डूबिहौं, गहौं त डसिये बांह।।१७७८।।
I have gained a snake's venom in the ocean of the world. If I leave it, I will drown; if I hold on, it will bite me.
अगम अगोचर गमि नहीं, तहां जगमगै जोति। जहां कबीरा बंदिगी, 'तहां' पाप पुन्य नहीं छोति।।१७८४।।
The incomprehensible and invisible is where the light shines. Where Kabir practices devotion, there are no sins or merits.
कबीर मन मधुकर भया, रह्या निरंतर बास। कंवल जू फूल्या फूल जलह बिन, को देखै निज दास।।१७८५।।
Kabir has become like a bee, constantly dwelling in the heart. The lotus blooms without water; who can see this servant's inner state?
सूर समांणौं चंद में, दहूं किया घर एक। मन का चिता तब भया, कछू पूरबला लेख।।१७८९।।
The sun and moon are one, both residing in the same house. The mind's fire then finds satisfaction; the old script is revealed.
हद छाड़ि बेहद गया, किया सुन्नि असनान। मुनि जन महल न पावई, तहां किया विश्राम।।१७९०।।
Leaving the finite, I reached the infinite, and took a bath in the void. The sage does not find a palace; there, I rested.
देखौ कर्म कबीर का, कछु पुरब जनम का लेख। जाका महल न मुनि लहैं, (सो) दोसत किया अलेख।।१७९१।।
Observe Kabir's deeds, some are records from previous lives. What the sage could not attain, that friend achieved the unimaginable.
मन लागा मुनि सौं, गगन पहुंचा जाइ। देख्या चंदबिहूंणां चांदिणां, तहां अलख निरंजन राइ।।१७९४।।
The mind attached to the sage reaches the sky. There, the formless and transcendent is perceived beyond the moon and stars.
मन लागा उनमुनि सौं, उनमनि मनहि बिलग। लूंण बिलगा पाणियां, पांणी लूंणा बिलग।।१७९५।।
The mind attached to the sage is separated from the mundane mind. Salt dissolves in water, and the water dissolves in salt.
भली भई जु भै पड्या, गई दशा सब भूलि। पाला गलि पांणी भया, ढलि मिलिया उस कूलि।।१७९७।।
The good fortune that once seemed to be the case is now forgotten. The vessel has turned into water, and it has merged with its own shore.
पंषि उडाणी गगन कूं, प्यंड रह्या परदेस। पांणी पीया चंच बिन, भूलि गया यहु देस।।१७९९।।
The bird flew to the sky, remaining far away from its land. It forgot this land after drinking water without disturbance.
पंषि उड़ानीं गगन कं, उड़ी चढ़ी असमान। जिहं सर मंडल भेदिया, सो सर लागा कान।।१८००।।
The bird flew in the sky, soaring higher and higher. Where it broke through the sphere, it became its own boundary.
धरती गगन पवन नहीं होता, नहीं तोया नहीं तारा। तब हरि हरि के जन होते, कहै कबीर विचारा।।१८०६।।
The earth, sky, and air do not exist, nor do the moon and stars. At that time, the people of Hari (God) would exist. Kabir reflects on this.
जा दिन कृतम ना हुता, होता हट न पट। हुता कबीरा राम जन, जिनि देखै औघट घट।।१८०७।।
If the day of creation had not occurred, there would be no space or earth. Kabir says that there would only be the people of Ram (God), who see beyond the material world.
तन भीतरि मन मानियां, बाहरि कहा न जाइ। ज्वाला तै फिरि जल भया, बुझी बलंती लाइ।।१८१०।।
The mind and body are honored within, but cannot be described externally. The fire within turns to water and is extinguished by the process of contemplation.
मानसरोवर सुभर जल, हंसा केलि कराहिं। मुकताहल मुकता चुगैं, अब उड़ि अनत न जाहिं।।१८१८।।
The beautiful waters of Mansarovar are enjoyed by the swans. The liberated souls taste the nectar, never to return.
गगन गरजि अंमृत चवै, कदली कवल प्रकास। तहां कबीरा बंदिगी, कै कोई निज दास।।१८१९।।
The sky roars with the nectar of immortality, and the banana plant glows. There, Kabir’s devotion resides, where someone is the true servant.
सिव सकती दिसि कौंण जु जोवै, पछिम दिसा उठे धूरि। जल मैं स्वंघ जु घर करै, मछली चढ़ खजूरि।।१८२५।।
Who sees the power of Shiva in the directions, dust rises in the west. The fish lives in water, but climbs the date palm.
अंमृत बरिसै हीरा निपजै, घंटा पड टकसाल। कबीर जलाहा भया पारषू, अनभै उतरया पार।।१८२६।।
Nectar rains down and diamonds are forged, the bell rings in the mint. Kabir became a torchbearer, transcending the mundane.
कबीर मधि अंग जेको रहै, तौ तिरत न लागै बार। दुइ दुइ अंग सूं लागि करि, डूबत है संसार।।१८४६।।
If someone remains focused on the inner self, pilgrimage has no significance. Engaging in dualities leads to drowning in the world.
अनल अकांसा घर किया, मधि निरंतर बास। बसुधा ब्यौम बिरकत रहै, बिनठाहर बिसवास।।१८४७।।
The home of the fire (desire) is within, where it continuously resides. The earth and the sky are distant; faith resides beyond them.
हिंदू मूये राम कहि, मुसलमान खुदाइ। कहै कबीर सो जीवता, दुई मैं कदे न जाइ।।१८५१।।
The Hindu calls God Ram, the Muslim calls Him Khuda. Kabir says that He is ever-living; He does not belong to either of the two.
दुखिया मूवा दुख कों, सुखिया सुख को झूरि। सदा अनंदी राम के, जिनि सुख दुख मेल्हे दूरि।।१८५२।।
The unhappy one dies in sorrow, the happy one lives in pleasure. The truly blissful one is with Ram, who transcends the dualities of joy and sorrow.
काबा फिर कासी भया, राम भया रहीम। मोट चून मैदा भया, बैठि कबीरा जीम।।१८५४।।
The Kaaba became Kashi, Ram became Rahim. Flour, sugar, and bread are present; Kabir sits and eats.
कबीर करत है बीनती, भौसागर के तांई। बंदे ऊपरि जोर होत है, जंम कूं बारिज गुसाई।।१८६०।।
Kabir pleads to the Lord, for the ocean of life is vast. The burden on the soul is great, and rebirths are countless.
राम राम सुं दिल मिली, जम सो पड़ी बिराई। मोहि भरोसा इष्ट का, बंदा नरकि न जाई।।१८७८।।
When the heart is united with the name of Ram, even Yama (death) becomes a stranger. With faith in the Lord, the soul will not go to hell.
मेर मिटी मुकता भया, पाया ब्रह्म बिसास। अब मेरे दूजा को नहीं, एक तुम्हारी आस।।१८८४।।
Ego has vanished, and liberation is attained; faith in the Brahman is realized. Now, I have no other desire, only hope in You.
काइर हुंवां न छूटिये, कछु सूरातन साहि। भरम भलका दूरि करि, सुमिरण सेल संवाहि।।१९०७।।
The fool will not be freed, despite all attempts. Dispel doubts and remember the Lord's name.
कबीर साई सूरिवां, मन सूं मांडे झूझ। पंच पयादा पाड़ि ले, दूरि करै सब दूज।।१९०९।।
Kabir says, one who is devoted to the Lord, fights with the mind. Removing the five enemies, one can be free from all others.
अब तो ऐसी ह्वै पड़ी, मनका रुचित कीन्ह। मरनैं कहा डराइये, हाथि स्यंधौरा लीन्ह।।१९१७।।
Now that it is like this, it has pleased the mind. Why should we fear death? The elephant's tusk has been seized.
ऊंचा विरष अकासि फल, पंषरू मूए झूर। बहुत सयांने पचि रहे, फल निरमल परि दूरि।।१९२२।।
The high fruit of the sky is enjoyed by the birds who have passed away. Many wise people are still pondering, the pure fruit remains distant.
गुर दाघा चेला जल्या, बिरहा लागी आगि। तिणका बपुड़ा ऊबरया, गलि पूरे कै लागि।।१९४७।।
The disciple has been burned by the Guru, and the fire of separation is intense. The little fellow has survived, but only to complete his task.
कबीर हरि रस यौं पिया, बाकी रही न थाकि। पाका कलस कुंभार का, बहुरि न चढ़हि चाकि।।१९५०।।
Kabir says that once one drinks the nectar of Hari, there is no fatigue left. A potter's vessel that is once baked does not return to the wheel again.
मैंमंता अविगत रता, अकलप आसा जीति। राम अमलि माता रहै, जीवत मुकति अतीति।।१९५४।।
Attachment is unknowingly persistent, it defeats the unconditioned hope. When Ram's pure essence remains as the mother, liberation is achieved in life itself.
जहां जुरा मरण व्यापै नहीं, मुवा न सुणिये कोइ। चलि कबीर तिहि देसड, जहां वैद विधाता होइ।।१९५७।।
Where death and disease do not pervade, and no one is said to die, Kabir moves towards that land where the divine physician and creator reside.
कबीर जोगी बनि बस्या, षणि खाये कंद मूल। नां जाणौं किस जड़ी थै, अमर भए असथूल।।१९५८।।
Kabir became a yogi and lived on roots and tubers. I do not know which herb made him immortal and incorporeal.
कबीर हरि चरणौं चल्या, माया मोह थै टूटि। गगन मंडल आसण किया, काल गया सिर कूटि।।१९५९।।
Kabir walked on the path of Hari's feet, breaking free from illusion and attachment. He made the sky his seat, and time struck on his head.
यह मन पटकि पछाडि लै, सब आपा मिटि जाइ। पगलु ह्वै पिव पिव करै, पीछौं काल न खाइ।।१९६०।।
When the mind is cast off and thrown away, all ego vanishes. The mad person who drinks and drinks, is not eaten by time.
कबीर मन तीषा किया, बिरह लाइ परषांन। चित चरणूं मैं चभि रह्या, तहां नहीं काल का पाण।।१९६१।।
Kabir made his mind a razor, troubled by the pain of separation. His heart remained fixed on the feet, where time’s hand does not reach.
ऐसा कोई ना मिले, हम कौं दे उपदेस। भौसागर मैं डूबता, कर गहि काढ़े केस।।१९६४।।
No one is found to give us advice. While we are drowning in the ocean of worldly existence, who will grasp our hair and pull us out?
हम देखत जग जात है, जग देखत हम जांह। ऐसा कोई ना मिले, पकड़ि छुड़ावे बांह।।१९७०।।
We observe the world as it moves, and the world observes us as we go. No one is found who can grasp and release the arm.
माया मिले महोबंती, कूड़े आखे बैन। कोई घायल बेध्या ना मिलै, साई हंदा सैण।।१९७२।।
Maya (illusion) gives great pleasure, but it is like the sound of trash. No healer or savior is found to cure the wounded, only the blind and helpless ones.
हम घर जाल्या आपणां, लिया मूराड़ा हाथिम। अब घर जालौं तास का, जे चलै हमारे साथि।।१९७४।।
We have burned our own house and taken a handful of ashes. Now, if the house burns with us, let it be.
कबीर गुदड़ी बीषरी, सौदा गया बिकाइ। खोटा बांध्या गांठड़ी, इब कुछ लिया न जाइ।।१९७७।।
Kabir's worn-out rag has been sold. The false knot that was tied, now nothing is taken.
पैड़ै मोती बिखरया, अंधा निकस्या आइ। जोति बिनां जगदीस की, जगत उलंघ्या जाइ।।१९७८।।
Pearls are scattered on the ground, but the blind cannot see them. Without the light of the divine, the world is crossed over.
कबीर हरि का भावता, झीणां पंजर तास। रैणि न आवै नींदड़ी, अंगि न चढ़ई मास।।१९९१।।
Kabir says, the one who feels the presence of Hari, even a thin cover is enough for him. He does not find sleep at night, and the body does not feel the passage of time.
कांमणि अंग बिरकत भया, रत भया हरि नांहि। साषी गोरखनाथ ज्यूं, अमर भए कलि मांहि।।१९९९।।
The devotee's body has become detached, and he is absorbed in Hari. Just like Gorakhnath, he has become immortal in this Kali Yuga.
मेरे संगी दोइ जणां, एक वैष्णों एक राम। वो है दाता मुक्ति का, वो सुमिरावै नाम।।२०११।।
I have two companions, one is Vaishnava and the other is Ram. One is the giver of liberation, and the other is the one who remembers the name.
हम भी पाहन पूजते, होते रन के रोझ। सतगुर की कृपा भई, डारया सिर के बोझ।।२०२४।।
We also worship stones, but it is like facing the battlefield. By the grace of the True Guru, the burden on the head is removed.
कामंणि मीनीं षांणि की, जे छेड़ौं तौ खाइ। जे हरि चरणां राचियां, तिनके निकट न जाइ।।२०३८।।
The desire for wealth is like a poisonous fish; if provoked, it will bite. Those who are devoted to the feet of Hari, remain untouched by such desires.
नर नारी सब नरक है, जब लग देह सकाम। कहै कबीर ते राम के, जे सुमिरै निहकाम।।२०४३।।
Both men and women are in hell as long as they desire bodily pleasures. Kabir says that those who remember Ram with selflessness are free from this hell.
नारी नसाबैं नीति सुख, जा नर पासैं होइ। भगति मुकति निज ग्यान मैं, पैसि न सकई कोइ।।२०४५।।
The virtue and happiness that come from a woman are temporary. True devotion and liberation come from one’s own knowledge and cannot be attained through others.
नारी कुंड नरक का, बिरला चंभै बाग। कोई साधू जन ऊबरै, सब जग मूंवा लाग।।२०५०।।
A woman is like the pit of hell, only a rare one escapes. A saint may rise above, but the world is entrapped and dying.
कासी काठैं घर करैं, पीवैं निर्मल नीर। मुकति नहीं हरि नांव बिन, यौं कहै दास कबीर।।२०७८।।
Building a home in Kashi, drinking pure water. But liberation is not possible without God's name, so says Kabir.
हरि घोडा ब्रह्मा कडी, बसाय पीठि पलान। चांद सुरज दोउ पायडा, चढसी संत सूजान।।२०८७।।
The horse of Hari is saddled with Brahma's knowledge. With the moon and sun as stirrups, the wise saint mounts it.
धर सों शीश उतारिके, डारि देह ज्यों ढेल। कोई शूर को सोहसी, घर जाने का खेल।।२१००।।
By placing the head on the ground and discarding the body like a stone, One who is brave and honorable, for them returning home is a game.
रन धसिया ते उॅबरा, आया गरह निंवास। घरूं बधावा बाजिया, औ जोवन की आस।।२१२०।।
The brave rise from the battlefield and return to their home. Celebrations at home and the hope of life continue.
सार बहै लोहा झरै, टूटे जिरह जंजीर। जम ऊपरि साटैकरी, चढिया दास कबीर।।२१२९।।
The essence flows like molten iron, breaking the chains of iron. Above death, Kabir has climbed, reaching the ultimate goal.
हिरदै हीरा ऊपजै, नाभि कमल के बीच। जो कबहूं हीरा लखै, तो कदे न आवै मीच।।२१६१।।
The jewel arises in the heart, between the lotus of the navel. If someone ever perceives the jewel, they will never face any misfortune.
राम रतन धन मुक्ति में, खान खुली घट माहिं। सेतमेतही देतहों, ग्रोहक कोई नाहिं।।२१६७।।
The jewel of Ram’s name is in liberation, the treasure is open within the vessel. It is given with conditions, but there is no buyer.
तुम्हे बिसारे क्यों बनै, मैं किस शरने जाउं। शिव विरंचि मुनि नारदा, तिनके हृदय न समाउं।।२१८६।।
Why should I be forgotten by you? Where should I go for refuge? Even Shiva, Vishnu, and Sage Narada, their hearts cannot contain it.
सुरति करौ मम साइयां, हम हैं भवजल माहि। आपही मर जांयंगे, जो नहिं पकरो बाहिं।।२१९५।।
O Lord, keep my mind focused on you, for I am drowning in the ocean of existence. I will surely perish if you do not hold my hand.
सतगुरु बड़े दयाल हैं, संतन के आधार। भवसागर अथाह सों, खेइ उतारै पार।।२२०३।।
The true Guru is very compassionate, the support of the saints. He helps them cross the unfathomable ocean of existence.
देखनही की बात है, कहने को कछु नाहिं। आदि अंत को मिलि रहा, हरिजन हरिही माहिं।।२२१३।।
It is not a matter of seeing or speaking; it is beyond that. The beginning and end are found in the divine, within the heart of the devotee.
हद्द छांडि बेहद गया, लिया ठीकरा हाथ। भया भिखारी दीन का, दर्शन भया सनाथ।।२२१७।।
Leaving the limited, one attains the infinite, holding a bowl. The beggar became humble, and the vision became pure.
हद्द छांडि बेहद गया, अबरन किया मिलान। दास कबीरा मिलि रहा, सो कहिये रहमान।।२२१८।।
Leaving the limited, one attains the infinite, and the coverings were removed. The servant Kabir found the divine, that is to say, Rahman.
निरन्तर बासी निरमला, शून स्थूल सो निनार। पूरब गंगा पश्चिम बहावै, पेखे बहु उजियार।।२२२०।।
The constant, pure essence is beyond form, like the river Ganga flowing from east to west, bringing immense light.
बेहद्द अगाधी पीव है, ये सब हदके जीव। जे नर राते हद्दसो, ते कदी न पावै पीव।।२२२१।।
The infinite nectar is beyond limits, yet these creatures live within bounds. Those who are confined by limits can never taste this nectar.
हद बंधा बेहद रमैं, पल पल देखै नूर। मनवा तहां ले राखिया, जहां बाजै अनहद तूर।।२२२३।।
Bound by limits, the infinite is experienced; every moment it reveals light. The mind should be kept there where the unstruck sound of the divine is heard.
हद्द मांहि हदका घनां, लीया जीव तुराय। रिगसि बिगसि बेहद गया, मरै न आवै जाय।।२२२४।।
Within limits, one finds limitations; the soul, having left the limits, experiences the infinite. It neither comes nor goes.
हद छांडि बेहद गया, रहा निरन्तर होय। बेहद के मैदान में, रहा कबीरा सोय।।२२२५।।
Leaving behind the limits, one enters the infinite, remaining continuously. Kabir resides in the field of the infinite.
हद्द छाडि बेहद गया, तासों राम हजूर। पारब्रह्म परचा भया, अब नियरे तब दूर।।२२२६।।
Leaving limits and entering the infinite, Ram becomes present. The essence of the supreme being is revealed, yet remains distant.
हद में बैठा कथन है, बेहद की गम नाहिं। बेहद की गम होयगी, तब कछु कथना काहि।।२२२७।।
Sitting within limits, one cannot understand the infinite. Understanding the infinite comes only when one transcends these limits.
कबिरा हद के जीव सों, हित करि मुखै न बोल। जो राचे बेहद सों, तिनसों अन्तर खोल।।२२२८।।
Kabir does not speak openly with those bound by limits. To those who are in tune with the infinite, he reveals the inner truth.
हद में रहैं सो मानवी, बेहद रहै सो साध। हद बेहद दोनों तजैं, तिनका मता अगाध।।२२३०।।
One who remains within limits is human, while one who dwells in the infinite is a sage. To transcend both limits and the infinite is to possess profound understanding.
हद बेहद दोनों तजी, अबरन किया मिलान। कहै कबीर ता दास पर, वारों सकल जहान।।२२३१।।
Having transcended both limits and the infinite, and having attained unity, says Kabir, the servant bows to the entire world.
तिलभर मछली खाय के, कोटि गऊ दै दान। काशी करात लै मरै, तो भी नरक निदान।।२२५१।।
Even if one eats a tiny bit of fish and then donates millions of cows, Or dies in Kashi with sacred rituals, hell is still their destiny.
आठ बाट बकरी गई, सांस मुलां गये खाय। अजहूं खाल खटीकै, भीस्त कहांते जाय।।२२५४।।
The goat, split in eight parts, has been eaten by the priest. Even now, they scrape its skin; how will they reach heaven?
