बलिहारी गुरु आपनो, घड़ी-घड़ी सौ-सौ बार। मानुष से देवत किया, करत न लागी बार।।१।।
I bow to my Guru a hundred times every moment. He transformed me from a mere human into a divine being effortlessly.
कबिरा माला मनहि की, और संसारी भीख। माला फेरे हरि मिले, गले रहट के देख।।२।।
Kabir says, the true rosary is the one in the mind, while worldly desires are like begging. If one could find God by rotating a rosary, then why don’t you see the oxen tied to a well becoming saints?
सुख में सुमिरन ना किया, दुःख में किया याद। कहे कबीर ता दास की, कौन सुने फरियाद।।३।।
In times of happiness, you did not remember God, but in times of sorrow, you cry out to Him. Kabir says, who will listen to the plea of such a servant?
धीरे-धीरे रे मना, धीरे सब कुछ होय। माली सींचे सौ घड़ा, ऋतु आए फल होय।।५।।
Slowly, slowly, O mind, everything happens in its own time. The gardener may water with a hundred buckets, but the fruit will only come when it is in season.
कबीरा ते नर अंध हैं, गुरु को कहते और। हरि रूठे गुरु ठौर है, गुरु रुठे नहीं ठौर।।६।।
Kabir says, those who consider someone other than the Guru as their guide are blind. If God gets upset, the Guru is there as a refuge, but if the Guru gets upset, there is no refuge.
पाँच पहर धंधे गया, तीन पहर गया सोय। एक पहर हरि नाम बिन, मुक्ति कैसे होय।।७।।
Five hours were spent in worldly affairs, three hours in sleep. How can one attain salvation if not even one hour is spent in chanting the name of God?
कबीरा सोया क्या करे, उठि न भजे भगवान। जम जब घर ले जाएंगे, पड़ी रहेगी म्यान।।८।।
Kabir asks, why does one sleep without worshiping God? When death comes to take you away, your body will be left behind like a useless scabbard.
क्या भरोसा देह का, बिनस जात छिन माँह। सांस-सांस सुमिरन करो, और यतन कुछ नाँह।।१६।।
What is the trust in this body? It can perish in a moment. Remember God with every breath, there is no other effort needed.
दान दिए धन ना घटे, नदी न घटे नीर। अपनी आँखों देख लो, यूँ क्या कहे कबीर।।१८।।
Giving away wealth does not decrease it, just as water does not decrease in a river. See this with your own eyes, says Kabir.
सोया साधु जगाइए, करे नाम का जाप। ये तीनों सोए भले, साकत, सिंह, और साँप।।२३।।
Wake up a sleeping saint to chant the name of God. But let these three sleep: the worldly, the lion, and the snake.
कबीरा जपना काठ की, क्या दिखलावे मोय। हृदय नाम न जपे अगर, यह जपनी क्या होय।।२५।।
Kabir says, what use is a wooden rosary if the heart does not chant the name of God? What value does such a rosary hold?
पतिव्रता मैली, काली, कुचैल, कुरूप। पतिव्रता के रूप पर, वारो कोटि सरूप।।२६।।
A devoted wife may be dirty, dark, and ugly, but I would sacrifice millions of beauties for her virtue.
बैद मुआ, रोगी मुआ, मुआ सकल संसार। एक कबीरा ना मुआ, जेहि के राम अधार।।२७।।
The physician dies, the patient dies, and the entire world dies. Only Kabir, who has the support of God, does not die.
हद चाले सो मानव, बेहद चले सो साध। हद-बेहद दोनों तजे, ताको भाव अगाध।।२८।।
A person who follows the rules is human; one who transcends them is a sage. The one who forsakes both boundaries and boundlessness is immersed in divine love.
राम रहे बन भीतरे, गुरु की पूजा न आस। कहै कबीर पाखंड सब, झूठे सदा निराश।।२९।।
Even if Lord Ram resides in the forest, there is no hope in worshiping a false guru. Kabir says, all hypocrisy leads to disappointment.
तीरथ गए ते एक फल, संत मिले फल चार। सतगुरु मिले अनेक फल, कहे कबीर विचार।।३१।।
Visiting holy places gives one benefit; meeting a saint gives four benefits; but meeting a true Guru gives countless benefits, says Kabir.
सुमिरन से मन लाइए, जैसे पानी बिन मीन। प्राण तजे पल बिसरे, कहे कबीर दीन।।३२।।
Focus your mind on remembrance (of God), like a fish that cannot live without water. Without such devotion, life is meaningless, says Kabir.
कामी, क्रोधी, लालची, इनसे भक्ति न होय। भक्ति करे कोइ सूरमा, जाति-वरन कुल खोय।।३७।।
Desires, anger, and greed hinder devotion. True devotion comes from a valiant person who forsakes caste, color, and family.
जागन में सोवन करे, साधन में लौ लाय। सूरत-डोर लागी रहे, तार टूट नाहिं जाय।।३८।।
Those who sleep during awakening and bring light in practices will have their sight remain steady, like a thread that doesn’t break.
अन्तर्यामी एक तुम, आत्मा के आधार। जो तुम छोड़ो हाथ तो, कौन उतारे पार।।४१।।
You are the inner knower, the support of the soul. If you let go of your hand, who will help one cross over?
सुमिरन में मन लाइए, जैसे नाद कुरंग। कहैं कबीर, बिसरे नहीं, प्राण तजै तहि संग।।४२।।
Focus your mind on remembrance, like a deer chasing the sound. Kabir says one who does not forget it, even when giving up life, is the true devotee.
सुमरित सुरत जगाय कर, मुख से कछु न बोल। बाहर का पट बंद कर, अंदर का पट खोल।।४३।।
Awaken your awareness through remembrance, and speak not a word from your mouth. Close the door of the external and open the door of the inner self.
नहीं शीतल है चंद्रमा, हिम नहीं शीतल होय। कबीरा शीतल संत जन, नाम सनेही सोय।।४७।।
The moon is not cool, nor is the frost cold. Kabir says true coolness is found in the saint who loves the name.
जल ज्यों प्यारा माहरी, लोभी प्यारा दाम। माता प्यारे बारका, भगति प्यारा नाम।।४९।।
Water is dear to the fish, wealth is dear to the greedy, the child is dear to the mother, and devotion is dear to the devotee.
जब लगि भगति सकाम है, तब लग निष्फल सेव। कहै कबीर, वह क्यों मिले, निष्कामी तजि देव।।५१।।
As long as devotion is selfish, the service is fruitless. Kabir says, why should that devotee be honored who leaves selfless devotion?
जब मैं था, तब गुरु नहीं, अब गुरु हैं, मैं नाय। प्रेम गली अति साँकरी, ता में दो न समाय।।५५।।
When I was there, there was no guru; now that the guru is here, I am not. The path of love is very narrow; two cannot fit in it.
कबीरा, धीरज के धरे, हाथी मनभर खाय। टूटे एक के कारने, स्वान घर-घर जाय।।५६।।
Kabir says, patience can fill an elephant’s belly, but a dog will go home if its bone breaks.
बाहर क्या दिखलाए, अनंतर जपिए राम। काहे काज संसार से, तुझे धनी से काम।।६२।।
What is shown outside is meaningless; within, one should chant Ram's name. What use is the world's work, when you have the wealth of devotion?
फल कारण सेवा करे, करे न मन से काम। कहै कबीर सेवक नहीं, चाहे चौगुना दाम।।६३।।
If someone serves expecting rewards, and does not work sincerely from the heart, Kabir says that person is not a true servant; they are just seeking fourfold returns.
कबिरा, यह तन जात है, सके तो ठौर लगा। कहि सेवा कर साधु की, कहि गोविंद गुण गा।।६५।।
Kabir says, this body is transient; if possible, find a place of refuge. Serve the saints and sing the praises of the Lord.
बलिहारी वा दूध की, जामें निकसे घीव। घी साखी कबीर की, चार वेद का जीव।।६८।।
I am grateful to the milk from which ghee is obtained. The ghee is a witness to Kabir's teachings, which encompass the essence of the four Vedas.
घट का परदा खोल कर, सन्मुख दे दीदार। बाल सनेही सांइया, आवा अंत का यार।।७०।।
Unveil the cover of the vessel and witness the divine presence. The beloved Lord is always near, like a true friend in the end.
कबिरा खालिक जागिया, और न जागे कोय। जाके विषय विष भरा, दास बंदगी होय।।७१।।
Kabir says that the Creator is awake, but no one else is. Only the one who is full of worldly poison and devotion can truly awaken.
सुमिरन की सुबिझ करो, ज्यों गागर पनिहार। होले-होले सुरत में, कहैं कबीर विचार।।७३।।
Just as a water-bearer carefully handles a pitcher, keep your mind gently focused on remembrance. Kabir speaks of this understanding.
संत पुरुष की आरसी, संतन की ही देह। लखे जो चाहे अलख को, तिनहीं में लख लेह।।८२।।
The mirror of a saint is the body of saints. If you wish to see the Divine, recognize it within those saints.
गर्भ योगीश्वर गुरु बिन, लागा हरि का सेव। कहे कबीर बैकुंठ ते, फेर दिया शुकदेव।।८४।।
Without the guru, who is the Lord of Yoga, devotion to God feels incomplete. Kabir says that even Shukdev was sent back from Vaikunth.
साँईं ते सब होत है, बन्दे ते कछु नाहिं। राई ते पर्वत करे, पर्वत राई माहिं।।८६।।
Everything comes from the Divine; nothing comes from individuals. A mountain is made from a mustard seed, and a mustard seed is within the mountain.
साधु, सती, और सूरमा, इनकी बात अगाध। आशा छोड़े देह की, तन की अनथक साध।।८८।।
The words of saints, sages, and warriors are profound. They abandon hope in the body and tireless effort of the physical self.
आशा को ईंधन करो, मनसा करौ बभूत। जोगी फेरी यों फिरो, तब वन आवै सूत।।९०।।
Fuel your hopes, and make intentions as ashes. If you practice yoga with such detachment, then even the forest will become your home.
आवत गारी एक है, उलटन होय अनेक। कहै कबीर न उलटिए, वही एक की एक।।९४।।
An insult may come in one form, but its effects are numerous. Kabir says, do not get distressed; it is all the same.
उज्जवल पहरे कापड़ा, पान सुपारी खाय। एक हरि के नाम बिन, बाँधा यमपुर जाय।।९५।।
Wearing bright clothes and consuming betel leaves and nuts may seem important, but without the name of the Divine, one is bound for the abode of Yama (death).
कबीरा कलह अरु कल्पना, सतसंगति से जाय। दुख बासे भागा फिरै, सुख में रहै समाय।।१०१।।
Kabir says that conflict and illusion vanish through association with the righteous. Suffering departs and one remains in joy.
कबीरा संगति साधु की, जित प्रीत कीजै जाय। दुर्गति दूर वहावति, देवी सुमति बनाय।।१०२।।
Kabir says that by associating with saints and showing love, misfortune is removed and divine wisdom is attained.
कबीरा संगत साधु की, निष्फल कभी न होय। होमी चन्दन बासना, नीम न कहसी कोय।।१०३।।
Kabir says that the association with saints is never fruitless. The fragrance of sandalwood is never compared to that of neem.
काह भरोसा देह का, बिनस जात छिन मारहिं। साँस-साँस सुमिरन करो, और यतन कछु नाहिं।।१०५।।
Why rely on the body, which perishes every moment? Remember the Divine with every breath and make no other effort.
कबीरा सोता क्या करे, जागो जपो मुरार। एक दिना है सोवना, लांबे पाँव पसार।।११३।।
What is the use of sleeping, Kabir says? Wake up and chant the name of the Divine. Sleeping is for a single day, while the journey is long.
कथा कीर्तन कुल विशे, भव सागर की नाव। कहत कबीरा या जगत, नाहीं और उपाय।।११७।।
Stories and hymns are the essence of the family, the boat across the ocean of existence. Kabir says, this world has no other remedy.
गाँठि न थामहिं बाँध ही, नहिं नारी सो नेह। कह कबीर वा साधु की, हम चरनन की खेह।।११८।।
One who does not hold onto the knot, does not have true affection. Kabir says, the wise are devoted to the feet of the Divine.
जा पल दरसन साधु का, ता पल की बलिहारी। राम नाम रसना बसे, लीजै जनम सुधारि।।१२२।।
For a moment of seeing a saint, I am willing to sacrifice that moment. When the name of Ram resides on the tongue, it improves one's life.
जल की जमी में है रोपा, अभी सींचें सौ बार। कबिरा खलक न तजे, जामे कौन वोचार।।१२५।।
In the frozen water, the seeds are sown, but they must be watered a hundred times. Kabir says, do not abandon the creation, for what will be the use of contemplation?
ते दिन गये अकारथी, संगत भई न संत। प्रेम बिना पशु जीवना, भक्ति बिना भगवंत।।१२६।।
Those days are gone, where there was no purpose, and association with saints was absent. Without love, life is like that of animals, and without devotion, God remains distant.
तन को जोगी सब करे, मन को बिरला कोय। सहजै सब विधि पाइये, जो मन जोगी होय।।१२७।।
Many practice yoga for the body, but few do so for the mind. The true essence is easily attained if the mind is focused on yoga.
पोथी पढ़-पढ़ जग मुआ, पंडित भया न कोय। ढ़ाई आखर प्रेम का, पढ़ै सो पंड़ित होय।।१३०।।
The world has died reading books, no one has become a scholar. The true scholar is one who understands the two and a half letters of love.
प्रेमभाव एक चाहिए, भेष अनेक बजाय। चाहे घर में बास कर, चाहे बन मे जाय।।१३२।।
One should have a single feeling of love, despite various appearances. Whether living at home or wandering in the forest, the feeling of love remains the same.
ये तो घर है प्रेम का, खाला का घर नाहिं। सीस उतारे भुँई धरे, तब बैठें घर माहिं।।१३८।।
This is a house of love, not the house of a maternal uncle. Only when you remove your pride and place your head on the ground, can you sit in this home.
राम बुलावा भेजिया, दिया कबीरा रोय। जो सुख साधु संग में, सो बैकुंठ न होय।।१४०।।
Ram sent a summons, and Kabir wept. The joy found in the company of saints cannot even be found in paradise.
ॠद्धि सिद्धि माँगो नहीं, माँगो तुम पै येह। निसि दिन दरशन शाधु को, प्रभु कबीर कहुँ देह।।१४६।।
Do not ask for wealth and powers, ask for this instead: To see the saints day and night, O Lord, says Kabir.
राम-नाम कै पटं तरै, देबे कौं कुछ नाहिं। क्या ले गुर संतोषिए, हौंस रही मन माहिं।।१४८।।
By reciting the name of Ram, one crosses over, yet does not receive anything. What is there to be satisfied by the Guru, when the mind is still restless?
बलिहारी गुर आपणौ, घौंहाड़ी कै बार। जिनि भानिष तैं देवता, करत न लागी बार।।१४९।।
I am devoted to my Guru, more than to the grandeur of gods. He who has received the divine light from the Guru, does not face any obstacles.
सतगुर हम सूं रीझि करि, एक कह्मा कर संग। बरस्या बादल प्रेम का, भींजि गया अब अंग।।१५१।।
The True Guru has pleased me by keeping me with him. The cloud of love has poured down, and now my body is soaked.
यह तन विष की बेलरी, गुरु अमृत की खान। सीस दिये जो गुरु मिलै, तो भी सस्ता जान।।१५३।।
This body is a vessel of poison, while the Guru is a mine of nectar. Even if one offers their head for the Guru, it is still considered cheap.
तू तू करता तू भया, मुझ में रही न हूँ। वारी फेरी बलि गई, जित देखौं तित तू।।१५४।।
You, you kept doing, and you became. I was not there within. Going around in circles, I am now lost in seeing you everywhere.
राम पियारा छांड़ि करि, करै आन का जाप। बेस्या केरा पूतं ज्यूं, कहै कौन सू बाप।।१५५।।
Leaving aside the beloved name of Ram, one chants the name of another. Like a courtesan's son, who is his true father?
कबीरा प्रेम न चषिया, चषि न लिया साव। सूने घर का पांहुणां, ज्यूं आया त्यूं जाव।।१५६।।
Kabir did not taste love, nor did he drink it. A guest in a deserted home comes and goes just as they arrived.
कबीरा राम रिझाइ लै, मुखि अमृत गुण गाइ। फूटा नग ज्यूं जोड़ि मन, संधे संधि मिलाइ।।१५७।।
Kabir has won over Ram by singing the nectar-like qualities of His name. Just as a pot fills up with water when it is joined to a source, the mind meets with the divine essence.
बिरह-भुवगम तन बसै, मंत्र न लागै कोइ। राम-बियोगी ना जिवै, जिवै तो बौरा होइ।।१५८।।
The body suffers from separation and intense longing; no mantra or ritual seems effective. A person separated from Ram cannot live peacefully; they become mad with longing.
इस तन का दीवा करौ, बाती मेल्यूं जीवउं। लोही सींचो तेल ज्यूं, कब मुख देख पठिउं।।१५९।।
Make this body a lamp, and the wick is the life. Pour the oil of devotion like molten iron, and then you will see the divine face.
दीठा है तो कस कहूं, कह्मा न को पतियाइ। हरि जैसा है तैसा रहो, तू हरिष-हरिष गुण गाइ।।१६२।।
If you see Him, what can I say? No one can hold Him. Stay as He is; sing His virtues with joy.
भारी कहौं तो बहुडरौं, हलका कहूं तौ झूठ। मैं का जाणी राम कूं, नैनूं कबहूं न दीठ।।१६३।।
If I say it is heavy, then it becomes burdensome; if I say it is light, it seems false. I do not know the essence of Ram; I have never seen Him.
कबीर कलिजुग आइ करि, कीये बहुत जो भीत। जिन दिल बांध्या एक सूं, ते सुख सोवै निचींत।।१६४।।
In this Kali Yuga, much fear has arisen. Those who are bound by one heart cannot find peace.
पतिबरता मैली भली, गले कांच को पोत। सब सखियन में यों दिपै, ज्यों रवि ससि को जोत।।१६५।।
A devoted wife may be unclean, but if she applies glass (to adorn herself) around her neck, she shines among all friends, like the sun and moon's light.
हरि-रस पीया जाणिये, जे कबहुँ न जाइ खुमार। मैमता घूमत रहै, नाहि तन की सार।।१७१।।
One who drinks the nectar of Hari never experiences intoxication. The ego continues to roam, while the body remains worthless.
कबीर हरि-रस यौं पिया, बाकी रही न थाकि। पाका कलस कुंभार का, बहुरि न चढ़ई चाकि।।१७२।।
Kabir drank the nectar of Hari; nothing else remained. The pot of the potter once baked cannot be put back on the wheel.
कबीर जग की जो कहै, भौ जलि बूड़ै दास। पारब्रह्म पति छांड़ि करि, करै मानि की आस।।१७५।।
Kabir says that one who talks about the world drowns in water. Leaving the Supreme Lord behind, they seek hope in worldly matters.
करता दीसै कीरतन, ऊँचा करि करि तुंड। जाने-बूझै कुछ नहीं, यौं ही अंधा रुंड।।१७९।।
One may perform hymns loudly with raised hands, but if one does not understand or know, they are like a blind fool.
मैं जाण्यूँ पाढ़िबो भलो, पाढ़िबा थे भलो जोग। राम-नाम सूं प्रीती करि, भल भल नींयो लोग।।१८१।।
I know that reading scriptures is good, and so is performing rituals. But loving the name of Ram is the best, truly the highest good.
काजी-मुल्ला भ्रमियां, चल्या युनीं कै साथ। दिल थे दीन बिसारियां, करद लई जब हाथ।।१८४।।
The clerics and scholars wander around with their followers. They forget the essence of faith and only focus on rituals.
प्रेम-प्रिति का चालना, पहिरि कबीरा नाच। तन-मन तापर वारहुँ, जो कोइ बौलौ सांच।।१८५।।
The dance of love and affection, Kabir performs with delight. The true self is beyond body and mind, it is the essence of truth.
उज्जवल देखि न धीजिये, वग ज्यूं माडै ध्यान। धीर बौठि चपेटसी, यूँ ले बूडै ग्यान।।१८९।।
Do not be misled by brightness, like a moth attracted to light. Those who sit patiently and discern, will attain true knowledge.
कबीरा बन-बन मे फिरा, कारणि आपणै राम। राम सरीखे जन मिले, तिन सारे सवेरे काम।।१९१।।
Kabir wandered through the forests, seeking his own Ram. Those who met people like Ram, found all their work accomplished.
कबीरा खाई कोट कि, पानी पिवै न कोई। जाइ मिलै जब गंग से, तब गंगोदक होइ।।१९३।।
Kabir says, even if one has consumed many times the quantity of water from a well, it is not equivalent to drinking the sacred water of the Ganges.
हरिजन सेती रुसणा, संसारी सूँ हेत। ते णर कदे न नीपजौ, ज्यूँ कालर का खेत।।१९६।।
Anger towards the devotees and affection towards worldly people never leads to fulfillment, just like a barren field.
काजल केरी कोठड़ी, तैसी यहु संसार। बलिहारी ता दास की, पैसिर निकसण हार।।१९७।।
This world is like a room filled with kajal (black dye). I am devoted to the servant who sees beyond the illusion and emerges victorious.
आसा का ईंधण करूँ, मनसा करूँ बिभूति। जोगी फेरी फिल करूँ, यौं बिनना वो सूति।।१९९।।
I use hope as fuel and desire as wealth. A yogi wanders and seeks, yet without this, they remain asleep.
सरगुन की सेवा करो, निरगुन का करो ज्ञान। निरगुन सरगुन के परे, तहीं हमारा ध्यान।।२००।।
Serve the manifest form of God, and gain knowledge of the formless. Beyond the manifest and formless, our focus should be.
क्या काशी क्या ऊसर मगहर, राम हृदय बस मोरा। जो कासी तन तजै कबीरा, रामे कौन निहोरा।।२०२।।
Whether it is Kashi or barren Maghar, my heart resides in Ram. Kabir says, if one leaves Kashi, who will seek Ram?
कबीरा प्याला प्रेम का, अंतर लिया लगाय। रोम रोम में रमि रहा, और अमल क्या खाय।।२०३।।
Kabir's cup is filled with love, which he holds close. Love pervades every part of him, and what is left to consume?
प्रीतम के पतियाँ लिखूँ, जो कहुँ होय बिदेस। तन में मन में नैन में, ताको कहा सँदेस।।२०४।।
I write letters to my beloved, even if they are abroad. In body, mind, and eyes, where can I send messages to them?
नान्हा कातौ चित्त दे, महँगे मोल बिलाइ। गाहक राजा राम है, और न नेडा आइ।।२१२।।
Even a small thread, if given attention, can fetch a high price. The buyer is King Ram, and no one else can come close.
कबीर केवल राम की, तू जिनि छाँड़ै ओट। घण-अहरनि बिचि लौह ज्यूँ, घणी सहै सिर चोट।।२१४।।
Kabir says, do not abandon Ram's shelter. Like iron between the hammer and anvil, one must endure many blows.
कबीर माला मन की, और संसारी भेष। माला पहरयां हरि मिलै, तौ अरहट कै गलि देखि।।२१६।।
Kabir says, the true rosary is that of the mind, not just wearing worldly attire. If wearing a rosary brings Hari, then watch the oil press go round and round.
माला पहरयां कुछ नहीं, भगति न आई हाथ। माथौ मूँछ मुंडाइ करि, चल्या जगत् के साथ।।२१९।।
Wearing a rosary achieves nothing, devotion is not attained. Shaving the head and mustache, they follow the ways of the world.
बैसनो भया तौ क्या भया, बूझा नहीं बबेक। छापा तिलक बनाइ करि, दगहया अनेक।।२२०।।
What is the use of being a Vaishnav if one does not understand wisdom? Wearing marks and tilak, they deceive many.
चतुराई हरि ना मिलै, ए बातां की बात। एक निस प्रेही निरधार का, गाहक गोपीनाथ।।२२२।।
Cleverness won't bring you Hari; it's all talk. Only Gopinath is the buyer of the truly surrendered soul.
गाँठी दाम न बांधई, नहिं नारी सों नेह। कह कबीर ता साध की, हम चरनन की खेह।।२२५।।
He doesn't tie money in a knot, nor does he attach himself to women. Kabir says, I am the dust of such a saint's feet.
हैवर गैवर सघन धन, छत्रपती की नारि। तास पटेतर ना तुलै, हरिजन की पनिहारि।।२२७।।
Wealth, horses, elephants, and a queen of a king cannot compare to a servant of Hari.
जिहिं धरि साध न पूजि, हरि की सेवा नाहिं। ते घर भड़धट सारषे, भूत बसै तिन माहिं।।२२८।।
The home where saints are not respected and Hari is not served, that house is like a cremation ground, inhabited by spirits.
काबा फिर कासी भया, राम भया रे रहीम। मोट चून मैदा भया, बैठि कबीरा जीम।।२२९।।
Kaba has become Kashi, and Ram has become Rahim. The coarse flour has turned fine, and Kabir sits to eat.
कबीर दुबिधा दूरि करि, एक अंग है लागि। यहु सीतल बहु तपति है, दोऊ कहिये आगि।।२३०।।
Kabir says, cast away doubt and focus on the One. Both cold and intense heat are forms of fire.
कबीर सब जग हंडिया, मांदल कंधि चढ़ाइ। हरि बिन अपना कोउ नहीं, देखे ठोकि बनाइ।।२३१।।
Kabir says, the whole world is like a clay pot carried on a shoulder. Without Hari, no one is truly ours, no matter how hard we try.
कबीर संसा कोउ नहीं, हरि सूं लाग्गा हेत। काम-क्रोध सूं झूझणा, चौडै मांड्या खेत।।२३२।।
Kabir says, there’s no doubt when one is in love with Hari. Fight against lust and anger, like a warrior in battle.
कबीर घोड़ा प्रेम का, चेतनि चाढ़ि असवार। ग्यान खड़ग गहि काल सिरि, भली मचाई मार।।२३४।।
Kabir says, the horse of love is saddled with awareness. Holding the sword of knowledge, time strikes well.
सिर साटें हरि सेवेये, छांड़ि जीव की बाणि। जे सिर दीया हरि मिलै, तब लगि हाणि न जाणि।।२३५।।
Serve Hari with your head bowed, leaving aside the words of the self. If you dedicate yourself to Hari, you will not experience any harm.
जेते तारे रैणि के, तेतै बैरी मुझ। धड़ सूली सिर कंगुरै, तऊ न बिसारौ तुझ।।२३६।।
As many stars there are in the night, so many are my enemies. Even if my head is on the gallows, I will not forget you.
आपा भेटियाँ हरि मिलै, हरि मेट् या सब जाइ। अकथ कहाणी प्रेम की, कह्या न कोउ पत्याइ।।२३७।।
When one meets the self, they find Hari, and all other desires vanish. The indescribable story of love, no one can truly understand.
रोड़ा है रहो बाट का, तजि पाषंड अभिमान। ऐसा जे जन है रहै, ताहि मिलै भगवान।।२३९।।
The path is rocky; forsake hypocrisy and pride. Such a person who remains humble will meet God.
कबीर चेरा संत का, दासनि का परदास। कबीर ऐसैं होइ रक्षा, ज्यूँ पाऊँ तलि घास।।२४०।।
Kabir is the servant of the saint and the handmaid's messenger. Kabir seeks protection as the grass grows under the foot.
कबीर हरि कग नाव, सूँ प्रीति रहै इकवार। तौ मुख तैं मोती झड़ै, हीरे अन्त न पार।।२४३।।
Kabir says, if you have love for Hari with a single boat, pearls will fall from your mouth and diamonds will be found at the end.
सुरति करौ मेरे साइयां, हम हैं भोजन माहिं। आपे ही बहि जाहिंगे, जौ नहिं पकरौ बाहिं।।२५०।।
O Lord, focus on us; we are the meal. If you do not hold on to us, we will leave on our own.
जो गुरु बसै बनारसी, सीष समुन्दर तीर। एक पलक बिसरे नहीं, जो गुण होय शरीर।।२५२।।
If the Guru resides in Varanasi, the disciple's head is like the shore of the ocean. He does not forget even for a moment the qualities of the Guru.
गुरु को सिर राखिये, चलिये आज्ञा माहिं। कहैं कबीर ता दास को, तीन लोक भय नहिं।।२५३।।
Keep the Guru's blessings on your head and follow his commands. Kabir says that the servant who does this is fearless in all three worlds.
लच्छ कोष जो गुरु बसै, दीजै सुरति पठाय। शब्द तुरी बसवार है, छिन आवै छिन जाय।।२५४।।
If the Guru resides in the treasury, offer your focus. The words of the Guru are fleeting, coming and going in moments.
गुरु शरणागति छाड़ि के, करै भरौसा और। सुख सम्पति की कह चली, नहीं परक ये ठौर।।२५६।।
Leaving the refuge of the Guru, one places trust elsewhere. The promises of comfort and wealth are transient; this place is not reliable.
सोइ-सोइ नाच नचाइये, जेहि निबहे गुरु प्रेम। कहै कबीर गुरु प्रेम बिन, कतहुँ कुशल नहि क्षेम।।२५८।।
Dance with the same devotion that the Guru instills. Kabir says that without love for the Guru, no place is secure or well-off.
तबही गुरु प्रिय बैन कहि, शीष बढ़ी चित प्रीत। ते रहियें गुरु सनमुखाँ, कबहूँ न दीजै पीठ।।२६०।।
Then say that the Guru is beloved; the mind and heart are uplifted. Always remain in the presence of the Guru; never turn your back on them.
तन मन शीष निछावरै, दीजै सरबस प्रान। कहैं कबीर गुरु प्रेम बिन, कितहूँ कुशल नहिं क्षेम।।२६१।।
One should offer their body, mind, and head, and give their all. Kabir says that without love for the Guru, there is no well-being or safety anywhere.
सतगुरु को माने नही, अपनी कहै बनाय। कहै कबीर क्या कीजिये, और मता मन जाय।।२७०।।
One who does not accept the true Guru and follows his own made-up ideas, Kabir says, what can be done if the mind wanders to other opinions?
करहु छोड़ कुल लाज, जो सतगुरु उपदेश है। होये सब जिव काज, निश्चय करि परतीत करू।।२७५।।
Abandon your family pride if it conflicts with the true Guru's teachings. This will fulfill all life's goals, so have faith with certainty.
यह सतगुरु उपदेश है, जो मन माने परतीत। करम भरम सब त्यागि के, चलै सो भव जल जीत।।२७६।।
This is the true Guru's teaching: when the mind fully believes, abandoning all doubts and illusions, one can cross the ocean of worldly existence.
गुरु-गुरु में भेद है, गुरु-गुरु में भाव। सोइ गुरु नित बन्दिये, शब्द बतावे दाव।।२८०।।
There is a difference between Gurus, and a distinction in their feelings. Only the Guru who reveals the secret of the Word should be respected daily.
यह तन विषय की बेलरी, गुरु अमृत की खान। सीस दिये जो गुरु मिलै, तो भी सस्ता जान।।२८९।।
This body is a vine of desires, but the Guru is a mine of nectar. Even if one has to give one's head to find the Guru, consider it a small price to pay.
गुरु बिचारा क्या करे, ह्रदय भया कठोर। नौ नेजा पानी चढ़ा, पथर न भीजी कोर।।२९०।।
What can the poor Guru do when the heart has become hard? No matter how much water is poured, the stone remains dry.
शिष्य पुजै आपना, गुरु पूजै सब साध। कहैं कबीर गुरु शीष को, मत है अगम अगाध।।२९२।।
The disciple worships his own ego, while the Guru worships all beings. Kabir says, the true Guru's wisdom is deep and unfathomable.
स्वामी सेवक होय के, मनही में मिलि जाय। चतुराई रीझै नहीं, रहिये मन के माय।।२९४।।
When the master and servant become one in mind, cleverness and pretense hold no value. Remain simple at heart.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिन, नारी कूकरी होय। गली-गली भूँकत फिरै, टूक न डारै कोय।।२९६।।
Without devotion to the Guru, a woman becomes like a stray dog, wandering from street to street, and no one gives her even a crumb.
पशुआ सों पालो परो, रहू-रहू हिया न खीज। ऊसर बीज न उगसी, बोवै दूना बीज।।२९९।।
Raise and nurture even animals, but do not lose patience. Seeds sown in barren land will not grow, even if you sow twice as much.
हरिजन आवत देखिके, मोहड़ो सूखि गयो। भाव भक्ति समझयो नहीं, मूरख चूकि गयो।।३०९।।
Seeing the devotee of God, the wicked person’s face becomes pale. They do not understand the essence of devotion and miss the true path.
खसम कहावै बैरनव, घर में साकट जोय। एक धरा में दो मता, भक्ति कहाँ ते होय।।३१०।।
The master may call her a wicked woman, but if there is a wicked person in the house, how can true devotion exist where there are two opposing ideas?
दोय बखत नहिं करि सके, दिन में करूँ इक बार। कबीर साधु दरश ते, उतरैं भव जल पार।।३१३।।
One cannot perform rituals twice a day, but if done once a day, it is sufficient. Kabir says, by seeing the saint, one can cross the ocean of worldly life.
बार-बार नहिं करि सके, पाख-पाख करिलेय। कहैं कबीरन सो भक्त जन, जन्म सुफल करि लेय।।३१४।।
One cannot perform rituals repeatedly, but if done properly, it is effective. Kabir says that such devotees will make their lives fruitful.
छठे मास नहिं करि सके, बरस दिना करि लेय। कहैं कबीर सो भक्तजन, जमहिं चुनौती देय।।३१५।।
If one cannot perform rituals for six months, they can do it for a year. Kabir says such devotees challenge even Yama (the god of death).
इन अटकाया न रुके, साधु दरश को जाय। कहै कबीर सोई संतजन, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय।।३१७।।
Obstacles cannot stop the visit to a saint. Kabir says, those saints who overcome such hindrances attain liberation and spiritual rewards.
कबीर दर्शन साधु के, खाली हाथ न जाय। यही सीख बुध लीजिए, कहै कबीर बुझाय।।३१८।।
Do not visit a saint with empty hands. Kabir says, learn this lesson, that visiting a saint should involve giving something.
आवत साधु न हरखिया, जात न दीया रोय। कहै कबीर वा दास की, मुक्ति कहाँ से होय।।३२१।।
When a saint arrives, there is no joy or sorrow. Kabir says, where will liberation come for the servant who is indifferent?
छाजन भोजन प्रीति सो, दीजै साधु बुलाय। जीवन जस है जगन में, अन्त परम पद पाय।।३२२।।
Offer food and affection to the saint who is invited. Life is like a journey, and in the end, one attains the supreme state.
सरवर तरवर सन्त जन, चौथा बरसे मेह। परमारथ के कारने, चारों धारी देह।।३२३।।
The saints are like the lake and trees, where rain falls in abundance. For the sake of benevolence, they sustain the four aspects of the body.
क्यों नृपनारि निन्दिये, पनिहारी को मान। वह माँग सँवारे पीववहित, नित वह सुमिरे राम।।३२६।।
Why criticize a king’s wife and honor a water carrier? She who carefully fetches water for her husband and constantly remembers Ram is of higher value.
जा सुख को मुनिवर रटैं, सुर नर करैं विलाप। जो सुख सहजै पाईया, सन्तों संगति आप।।३२७।।
The happiness that sages recite about is lamented by gods and men. The happiness that comes easily is found in the company of saints.
आशा वासा सन्त का, ब्रह्मा लखै न वेद। षट दर्शन खटपट करै, बिरला पावै भेद।।३२९।।
The hope and shelter of saints are not recognized by Brahma or the Vedas. Those who engage in debates on the six philosophies rarely understand the truth.
सन्त मिले जानि बीछुरों, बिछुरों यह मम प्रान। शब्द सनेही ना मिले, प्राण देह में आन।।३३१।।
Meeting with saints is like finding my very soul among the lost. If I do not find the beloved words, I would bring my soul back to the body.
साधु कहावन कठिन है, ज्यों खांड़े की धार। डगमगाय तो गिर पड़े, निहचल उतरे पार।।३३३।।
The path of a saint is as difficult as the edge of a razor. If you falter, you will fall; only the steadfast will cross over.
साधु कहावत कठिन है, लम्बा पेड़ खजूर। चढ़े तो चाखै प्रेम रस, गिरै तो चकनाचूर।।३३४।।
The saying of a saint is as difficult as climbing a tall date palm tree. If you reach the top, you taste the nectar of love; if you fall, you shatter into pieces.
साधू जन सब में रमैं, दुख न काहू देहि। अपने मत गाड़ा रहै, साधुन का मत येहि।।३३६।।
The saint dwells in everyone and causes no harm to anyone. He sticks to his own belief, and this is the belief of the saints.
निबैंरी निहकामता, स्वामी सेती नेह। विषया सो न्यारा रहे, साधुन का मत येह।।३४२।।
Renunciation and selflessness, affection towards the Lord. Worldly desires remain separate, this is the belief of the saint.
सन्त न छाड़ै सन्तता, कोटिक मिलै असंत। मलय भुवंगय बेधिया, शीतलता न तजन्त।।३४३।।
A saint does not abandon saintliness, though millions may find the opposite. Like the breeze that pierces the Malaya hills, he does not abandon his coolness.
सन्त मिले सुख ऊपजै, दुष्ट मिले दुख होय। सेवा कीजै साधु की, जन्म कृतारथ होय।।३५०।।
Meeting saints brings happiness, while meeting the wicked causes sorrow. Serve the saints, and your life will be fulfilled.
दया गरीबी बन्दगी, समता शील सुभाव। येते लक्षण साधु के, कहैं कबीर सतभाव।।३५३।।
Compassion, humility, devotion, equality, and good nature—these are the qualities of a saint, says Kabir.
सो दिन गया इकारथे, संगत भई न सन्त। ज्ञान बिना पशु जीवना, भक्ति बिना भटकन्त।।३५४।।
Those days are gone when association with saints was common. Without knowledge, life is like that of an animal, and without devotion, one is lost.
सन्त होत हैं हेत के, हेतु तहाँ चलि जाय। कहैं कबीर के हेत बिन, गरज कहाँ पतियाय।।३५८।।
Saints act according to their purpose, and once their purpose is served, they move on. Kabir says, without purpose, who will believe in the need?
साधु-ऐसा चाहिए, जाका पूरा मंग। विपत्ति पड़े छाड़ै नहीं, चढ़े चौगुना रंग।।३६०।।
A saint should be one who fulfills all requests and does not abandon even in adversity. Such a saint's presence enriches and multiplies.
सन्त सेव गुरु बन्दगी, गुरु सुमिरन वैराग। ये ता तबही पाइये, पूरन मस्तक भाग।।३६१।।
Service to saints, devotion to the guru, and remembrance of the guru lead to renunciation. These are achieved when one is truly blessed.
जौ मानुष गृह धर्म युत, राखै शील विचार। गुरुमुख बानी साधु संग, मन वच सेवा सार।।३६४।।
One who upholds domestic duties and virtues, and who engages in the guru's teachings and saintly company, both in mind and speech, finds true essence in service.
गिरही सुवै साधु को, भाव भक्ति आनन्द। कहैं कबीर बैरागी को, निरबानी निरदुन्द।।३६६।।
The householder finds joy and devotion with a saint. Kabir says that a renunciant (ascetic) who is indifferent remains detached and unaffected.
पाँच सात सुमता भरी, गुरु सेवा चित लाय। तब गुरु आज्ञा लेय के, रहे देशान्तर जाय।।३६७।।
After filling oneself with virtues of humility, and dedicating oneself to the service of the guru, one may then receive the guru's command and go to foreign lands.
गुरु के सनमुख जो रहै, सहै कसौटी दुख। कहैं कबीर तो दुख पर वारों, कोटिक सूख।।३६८।।
One who stays in the presence of the guru endures the test of suffering. Kabir says that even suffering is worth it if it brings countless blessings.
धारा तो दोनों भली, बिरही के बैराग। गिरही दासातन करे, बैरागी अनुराग।।३७२।।
Both streams are good, the renunciation of the separated and the devotion of the householder. The householder's detachment and the renunciant's devotion both have their merits.
अनमाँगा तो अति भला, माँगि लिया नहिं दोष। उदर समाता माँगि ले, निश्च्य पावै योष।।३७७।।
Not asking is very good; there is no fault in asking if necessary. One should be content with what is received through begging.
मन दिया कहुँ और ही, तन साधुन के संग। कहैं कबीर कोरी गजी, कैसे लागै रंग।।३८०।।
The mind is elsewhere, while the body is with the saints. Kabir says, it is like a barren field; how can it bear fruit?
साधुन के सतसंग से, थर-थर काँपे देह। कबहुँ भाव कुभाव ते, जनि मिटि जाय सनेह।।३८१।।
From the company of saints, the body trembles with reverence. One should be careful that the affection does not fade due to feelings of false attachment.
तोहि पीर जो प्रेम की, पाका सेती खेल। काची सरसों पेरिकै, खरी भया न तेल।।३८४।।
If you play with the true love of the guru, it is like pressing raw mustard seeds; it will not turn into oil.
मूरख को समुझावते, ज्ञान गाँठि का जाय। कोयला होय न ऊजला, सौ मन साबुन लाय।।३८७।।
Explaining to a fool is like trying to remove the dirt from coal; no matter how much soap you use, it won't become clean.
कबीर विषधर बहु मिले, मणिधर मिला न कोय। विषधर को मणिधर मिले, विष तजि अमृत होय।।३९४।।
Many poisonous creatures are encountered, but not a single gem-holder. If a poisonous snake meets a gem-holder, its poison turns to nectar.
साधु संग गुरु भक्ति अरू, बढ़त बढ़त बढ़ि जाय। ओछी संगत खर शब्द रू, घटत-घटत घटि जाय।।४०२।।
Association with saints and devotion to the guru increases continually. But association with the lowly and the harsh words decrease continuously.
आशा करै बैकुण्ठ की, दुरमति तीनों काल। शुक्र कही बलि ना करीं, ताते गयो पताल।।४०६।।
Hoping for paradise leads to delusion through all three ages. Praising the goddess without true devotion leads one to hell.
द्वार थनी के पड़ि रहे, धका धनी का खाय। कबहुक धनी निवाजि है, जो दर छाड़ि न जाय।।४०७।।
Those who linger at the door of the rich suffer from the kick of their wealth. Sometimes, the wealthy are gracious, but they never leave their door.
दया और धरम का ध्वजा, धीरजवान प्रमान। सन्तोषी सुख दायका, सेवक परम सुजान।।४०९।।
The flag of compassion and righteousness is flown by the patient. The contented and wise servant is the giver of happiness.
भक्ति बीज पलटै नहीं, जो जुग जाय अनन्त। ऊँच-नीच धर अवतरै, होय सन्त का अन्त।।४१०।।
The seed of devotion does not change even as ages pass endlessly. It manifests regardless of high or low status, until it reaches the saintly end.
भक्ति भाव भादौं नदी, सबै चली घहराय। सरिता सोई सराहिये, जेठ मास ठहराय।।४११।।
Devotion is like the monsoon river, which flows loudly. Praise that river which remains calm in the summer month.
गुरु भक्ति अति कठिन है, ज्यों खाड़े की धार। बिना साँच पहुँचे नहीं, महा कठिन व्यवहार।।४१२।।
Devotion to the Guru is extremely difficult, like walking on the edge of a sword. Without truth, one cannot reach the goal; it's a very difficult practice.
जब लग भक्ति सकाम है, तब लग निष्फल सेव। कहैं कबीर वह क्यों मिलै, निहकामी निजदेव।।४१३।।
As long as devotion is filled with desires, all service remains fruitless. Kabir says, how can one meet the selfless Divine with a mind full of desires?
पेटे में भक्ति करै, ताका नाम सपूत। मायाधारी मसखरैं, लेते गये अऊत।।४१४।।
One who practices devotion from the heart is called a true son. Those who are engrossed in materialism act foolishly and face downfall.
खेत बिगारेउ खरतुआ, सभा बिगारी कूर। भक्ति बिगारी लालची, ज्यों केसर में घूर।।४१५।।
A careless farmer ruins the field, a cruel person disrupts the assembly. A greedy person ruins devotion, like adding dirt to saffron.
ज्ञान सपूरण न भिदा, हिरदा नाहिं जुड़ाय। देखा देखी भक्ति का, रंग नहीं ठहराय।।४१६।।
Knowledge is not complete without penetrating the heart. Imitative devotion does not last; it fades away.
भक्ति पन्थ बहुत कठिन है, रती न चालै खोट। निराधार का खोल है, अधर धार की चोट।।४१७।।
The path of devotion is very difficult; deceit cannot pass through even a fraction of it. It's like a bridge without support, requiring careful balance to cross.
भक्तन की यह रीति है, बंधे करे जो भाव। परमारथ के कारने, यह तन रहो कि जाव।।४१८।।
This is the way of devotees: they act with boundless love. For the sake of ultimate truth, they are indifferent to whether the body survives or not.
भक्ति निसेनी मुक्ति की, संत चढ़े सब आय। नीचे बाधिनि लुकि रही, कुचल पड़े कू खाय।।४१९।।
The ladder of devotion leads to liberation; saints climb it with ease. Below, temptations lurk, waiting to trap those who fall.
भक्ति भक्ति सब कोइ कहै, भक्ति न जाने मेव। पूरण भक्ति जब मिलै, कृपा करे गुरुदेव।।४२०।।
Everyone talks about devotion, but few truly understand its essence. Complete devotion is attained only through the grace of the Guru.
सातों शब्द जु बाजते, घर-घर होते राग। ते मन्दिर खाले पड़े, बैठने लागे काग।।४२४।।
The seven notes play everywhere, filling homes with music. But the temples lie empty, where only crows sit now.
ऊँचा मन्दिर मेड़िया, चला कली ढुलाय। एकहिं गुरु के नाम बिन, जदि तदि परलय जाय।।४२५।।
The temple is high, with steep stairs; but the path of devotion is slippery. Without the Guru's name, one can easily fall into chaos.
पकी हुई खेती देखि के, गरब किया किसान। अजहुँ झोला बहुत है, घर आवै तब जान।।४२७।।
Seeing the ripe harvest, the farmer feels proud. Only when the bag is full will he understand.
बारी-बारी आपने, चले पियारे मीत। तेरी बारी जीयरा, नियरे आवै नीत।।४३३।।
One by one, dear friends come and go. In your turn, the heart does not come near regularly.
कबीर पगरा दूर है, बीच पड़ी है रात। न जानों क्या होयेगा, ऊगन्ता परभात।।४४३।।
Kabir says the destination is far, and the night is long. Who knows what will happen by the break of dawn?
कबीरा पगरा दूरि है, आय पहुँची साँझ। जन-जन को मन राखता, वेश्या रहि गयी बाँझ।।४४६।।
Kabir's journey is far, and the evening has arrived. He keeps everyone’s heart, while the courtesan remains barren.
गगन दमामा बाजिया, पड़े निसाने घाव। खेत बुहारे सूरमा, मोहे मरण का चाव।।४५८।।
The sky reverberates with drums, but the marks of wounds remain. The field is ploughed by warriors, I yearn for death.
सूरा सोई सराहिये, लड़े मुक्ति के हेत। पुर्जा पुर्जा कट पड़े, तो भी ना छाड़े खेत।।४५९।।
The brave person is praised, who fights for liberation. Even if torn piece by piece, he does not abandon the field.
आपा मेटे हरि मिले, हरि मेटे सब जाई। अकथ कहानी प्रेम की, कोई नहीं पतियाय।।४६३।।
When the self is erased, one meets the Divine. When the Divine is realized, everything else fades away. The story of love is beyond words; no one understands it.
जिहि घट प्रीति न प्रेम रस, पुनि रसना नहीं राम। ते नर इस संसार में, उपजि भए बेकाम।।४६४।।
In the body where there is no love or the essence of love, the tongue cannot taste the Divine. Those who lack this love in this world, become useless.
राम नाम कड़वा लगे, मीठा लागे दाम। दुविधा में दोनों गए, माया मिली ना राम।।४६५।।
The name of Ram may seem bitter, while money seems sweet. In the dilemma of both, neither the illusion of wealth nor the name of Ram is attained.
गुरु गोविन्द दोऊ खड़े, काके लागूँ पांय। बलिहारी गुरु आपने, गोविन्द दियो मिलाय।।४६७।।
Both Guru and Govind are standing, to whom should I bow? I am devoted to the Guru who has given me the vision of Govind (God).
जैसी प्रीति कुटुंब की, तैसी गुरु सों होय। कहें कबीर ता दास को, पला न पकड़े कोय।।४६९।।
The love one has for family should be the same as that for the Guru. Kabir says that the true disciple is not held back by anything.
गुरु समान दाता नहीं, याचक शिष्य समान। तीन लोक की संपदा, सो गुरु दीन्हीं दान।।४७०।।
There is no giver like the Guru, and no seeker like the disciple. The wealth of the three worlds is given as a gift by the Guru.
गुरु महिमा गावत सदा, मन राखे अति मोद। सो भव फिर आवै नहीं, बैठे प्रभु की गोद।।४७४।।
Constantly singing the glory of the Guru, and keeping the mind in great joy, one does not return to the cycle of rebirth but remains in the Lord’s embrace.
सुनिये सन्तों साधु मिलि, कहहिं कबीर बुझाय। जेहि विधि गुरु सों प्रीति है, कीजे सोइ उपाय।।४७५।।
Listen, saints and sages, Kabir speaks to explain: Follow the method of love for the Guru, and do as you are taught.
गुरु गोविन्द करि जानिये, रहिये शब्द समाय। मिलै तो दण्डवत बंदगी, नहिं पल पल ध्यान लगाय।।४७६।।
Recognize the Guru as the Lord and the Sustainer. When you meet him, offer obeisance and not just practice meditation every moment.
गुरु सों प्रीति निबाहिये, जेहि तत निबहै संत। प्रेम बिना ढिग दूर है, प्रेम निकट गुरु कंत।।४७७।।
Maintain love with the Guru as saints maintain their love. Without love, it is distant; with love, the Guru is near.
तन मन ताको दीजिए, जोको विषया नाहि। आपा सब ही डारि के, राखै साहिब माहिं।।४७८।।
Give your body and mind to the one who is free from desires. Leave all else and keep only the Master.
गुरु शरणागत छाड़ि के, करै भरोसा और। सुख सम्पति को कह चली, नहीं नरक में ठौर।।४७९।।
Leaving the refuge of the Guru and relying on others leads to abandoning happiness and wealth, and there is no place in hell for such a person.
कबीर ते नर अंध हैं, गुरु को कहते और। हरि के रूठे ठौर है, गुरु रूठे नहिं ठौर।।४८०।।
Kabir says that those who call the Guru a mere mortal are blind. While there is a place where the Lord might be displeased, there is no place where the Guru would be displeased.
गुरु मूरति गति चन्द्रमा, सेवक नैन चकोर। आठ पहर निरखत रहे, गुरु मूरति की ओर।।४८१।।
The Guru is like the moon, and the disciple’s eyes are like the chakor bird. The disciple remains gazing at the Guru’s form throughout the day and night.
गुरु गोविन्द दोउ एक हैं, दूजा सब आकार। आपा मेटैं हरि भजैं, तब पावे दीदार।।४८४।।
Guru and God are one; all other forms are transient. By eliminating the ego and worshiping the Lord, one can attain the vision of the divine.
गुरु को कीजै दण्डवत, कोटि कोटि परनाम। कीट न जाने भृंग को, गुरु कर ले आप समान।।४८८।।
Offer reverence and countless salutations to the Guru. Even a bug does not recognize a bee, so the Guru is to be revered as a divine being.
ज्ञान समागम प्रेम सुख, दया भक्ति विश्वास। गुरु सेवा ते पाइये, सद्गुरु चरण निवास।।४८९।।
Knowledge, love, happiness, compassion, devotion, and trust come together. Through the service of the Guru, one attains the dwelling in the feet of the True Guru.
मूल ध्यान गुरु रूप है, मूल पूजा गुरु पांव। मूल नाम गुरु वचन है, मूल सत्य सतभाव।।४९०।।
The root of meditation is the form of the Guru; the root of worship is the Guru's feet. The root of the name is the Guru’s word, and the root of truth is the essence of the Guru’s teachings.
सब धरती कागद करुं, लेखनी सब बनराय। सात समुद्र की मसि करुं, गुरु गुण लिखा न जाय।।४९१।।
If the entire earth were paper, and all the trees were pens, and if the seven seas were ink, still the virtues of the Guru could not be written.
गुरु मूरति आगे खड़ी, दुतिया भेद कछु नाहिं। उन्हीं कूं परनाम करि, सकल तिमिर मिटि जाहिं।।४९२।।
The form of the Guru stands ahead; there is no distinction between the two. By bowing to Him, all darkness is dispelled.
जो गुरु पूरा होय तो, शीषहि लेय निबाहि। शीष भाव सुत जानिये, सुत ते श्रेष्ठ शिष आहि।।४९३।।
If the Guru is complete, he accepts the offering of the head (or humility). One who offers his head (or is humble) is considered the best disciple.
गुरु को सिर पर राखिये, चलिये आज्ञा माहिं। कहैं कबीर ता दास को, तीन लोक भय नाहिं।।४९४।।
Keep the Guru on your head (or respect the Guru), and follow His commands. Says Kabir, the servant of the Guru, there is no fear in the three worlds.
गुरु सेवा जन बन्दगी, हरि सुमिरन वैराग। ये चारों तबही मिले, पूरन होवे भाग।।४९५।।
Service to the Guru, remembrance of Hari, and renunciation. When these four are achieved, one’s destiny is fulfilled.
कबीर हरि के रूठते, गुरु के शरणै जाय। कहैं कबीर गुरु रूठते, हरि नहिं होत सहाय।।४९७।।
When Hari (God) is displeased, seek refuge in the Guru. Says Kabir, when the Guru is displeased, even Hari cannot help.
सतगुरु मेरा शूरमा, तकि तकि मारै तीर। लागे पन भागे नही, ऐसा दास कबीर।।५०१।।
The True Guru is a great warrior who shoots arrows of wisdom. They protect from harm and their protection is unfailing.
सतगुरु सम को है सगा, साधु सम को दात। हरि समान को है हितु, हरिजन सम को जात।।५०४।।
The True Guru is like a relative to all, a benefactor to saints. He is like the Lord in his love, and equal to all the devotees.
सतगुरु सांचा शूरमा, नख शिख मारा पूर। बाहिर घाव न दीखई, अन्तर चकनाचूर।।५०७।।
The true Guru is a real hero, whose entire being is filled with strength. While there may be no visible wounds, internally they are shattered.
सतगुरु हमसों रीझि कै, कह्यौ एक परसंग। बरषै बादल प्रेम को, भींजि गयो सब अंग।।५१०।।
The true Guru, who was pleased with us, recounted a tale. Like the raincloud showering love, every part of the body got drenched in it.
जेहि खोजत ब्रह्मा थके, सुर नर मुनि अरु देव। कहैं कबीर सुन साधवा, करु सतगुरु की सेव।।५१२।।
Even Brahma, the gods, sages, and deities become weary in their search. Kabir says, listen, O seekers, serve the true Guru.
गुरु बिचारा क्या करै, शब्द न लागै अंग। कहै कबीर मैली गजी, कैसे लागै रंग।।५१७।।
What can the poor Guru do if his words do not take root? Kabir says, how can a dirty cloth take color?
जानीता बूझा नहीं, बूझि किया नहिं गौन। अंधे को अंधा मिले, राह बताये कौन।।५२०।।
Knowing without understanding, and understanding without practice is futile. When the blind lead the blind, who can show the way?
सो गुरु निसदिन बन्दिये, जासों पाया राम। नाम बिना घट अंध है, ज्यो दीपक बिन धाम।।५२३।।
That guru is always to be revered, from whom one attains Ram. Without the name, the mind is blind, like a lamp without a flame.
बंधे को बंधा मिला, छूटै कौन उपाय। कर सेवा निरबंध की, पल में लेत छुड़ाय।।५३०।।
The bound one finds bondage, who has the means to escape? Serve the unbound, and in a moment, you will be freed.
गुरु तो ऐसा चाहिए, शिष सो कछु न लेय। शिष तो ऐसा चाहिए, गुरु को सब कुछ देय।।५३२।।
The guru should be such that he takes nothing from the disciple. The disciple should be such that he gives everything to the guru.
शिष्य पूजै गुरु आपना, गुरु पूजे सब साध। कहैं कबीर गुरु शीष को, मत है अगम अगाध।।५३७।।
The disciple worships his own guru, and the guru is worshipped by all saints. Says Kabir, the guru is beyond comprehension and profound.
ऐसा काई ना मिला, जासू कहुं निसंक। जासो हिरदा की कहूं, सो फिर मारे डंक।।५३९।।
I have not found anyone with whom I can speak without fear. When I share my heart, they end up hurting me.
हिरदे ज्ञान न उपजे, मन परतीत न होय। ताको सदगुरु कहा करे, घनघसि कुल्हर न होय।।५४०।।
When wisdom doesn't arise in the heart and the mind lacks faith, even a true Guru can't help, just as a blunt axe can't cut.
सरबस सीस चढ़ाइये, तन कृत सेवा सार। भूख प्यास सहे ताड़ना, गुरु के सुरति निहार।।५४१।।
Offer everything to the Guru, serve with dedication. Endure hunger, thirst, and hardships, but never lose sight of the Guru's teachings.
साकट ते संत होत है, जो गुरु मिले सुजान। राम-नाम निज मंत्र दे, छुड़ावै चारों खान।।५४२।।
A non-believer can become a saint if they meet a wise Guru. The Guru gives them the mantra of God's name, freeing them from worldly bonds.
कबीर हरि-रस बरसिया, गिरि परवत बनराय। नीर निवानु ठाहरै, ना वह छापर डाय।।५४७।।
Kabir says, the nectar of God's name rains down on mountains, forests, and wilderness, but it only collects where there is a suitable place.
पशुवा सों पालौ पर्यो, रहु रहु हिया न खीज। ऊषर बीज न ऊगसी, बोवै दूना बीज।।५४८।।
Kabir says, do not lose heart if you find yourself among ignorant beings. Just as seeds will not sprout on barren land, no matter how many you sow.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिनु, राजा रासभ होय। माटी लदै कुम्हार की, घास न डारै कोय।।५५०।।
Without devotion to the Guru, even a king becomes like a beast of burden. Just as clay is used by the potter and grass is not discarded, so is a person without Guru’s devotion.
निगुरा ब्राह्मण नहिं भला, गुरुमुख भला चमार। देवतन से कुत्ता भला, नित उठि भुंके द्वार।।५५१।।
A Brahmin without Guru is not good, while a disciple of the Guru is better even if he is a chamar. A dog, who barks at the door of the gods, is better than a deity without devotion.
गुरु बिन माला फेरते, गुरु बिन देते दान। गुरु बिन सब निष्फल गया, पूछौ वेद पुरान।।५५४।।
Without a guru, one only spins the beads and makes offerings. Without a guru, everything is futile; ask the Vedas and Puranas.
सूता साधु जगाइये, करै ब्रह्म को जाप। ये तीनों न जगाइये, साकट सिंह अरु सांप।।५५५।।
Wake up the sleeping saint and make him chant the name of Brahma. But do not wake up these three: the miser, the lion, and the snake.
हरिजन की लातां भलीं, बुरि साकट की बात। लातों में सुख ऊपजे, बाते इज्जत जात।।५५६।।
The kick of a Harijan is better, than the praise of a miser. Happiness arises from kicks, while respect comes from words.
कबीर सोई दिन भला, जा दिन साधु मिलाय। अंक भरि भरि भेटिये, पाप शरीरा जाय।।५५९।।
The day is truly good when one meets a saint. By meeting him and filling one's heart, sins are removed from the body.
तीरथ न्हाये एक फल, साधु मिले फल चार। सतगुरु मिले अनेक फल, कहैं कबीर विचार।।५६०।।
A pilgrimage yields one fruit, meeting a saint yields four fruits. Meeting the true guru yields many fruits, says Kabir.
कबीर दर्शन साधु के, करत न कीजै कानि। ज्यों उद्यम से लक्ष्मी, आलस मन से हानि।।५६१।।
Do not be lazy in visiting saints. Just as effort brings wealth, laziness brings loss.
दरशन कीजै साधु का, दिन में कई कई बार। असोजा का मेह ज्यों, बहुत करे उपकार।।५६२।।
Visit the saint's sight many times a day. Just as the monsoon rains do great good, so does frequent sight of the saint.
कई बार नहिं कर सके, दोय बख्त करि लेय। कबीर साधु दरश ते, काल दगा नहिं देय।।५६३।।
One who cannot bathe often, should bathe twice a day. Kabir says, the sight of a saint does not deceive.
दोख बखत नहिं करि सके, दिन में करु इक बार। कबीर साधु दरश ते, उतरे भौजल पार।।५६४।।
One cannot accomplish anything in a short time; do it at least once a day. Kabir says, through the sight of a saint, one can cross the ocean of life.
एक दिना नहिं करि सके, दूजे दिन कर लेह। कबीर साधु दरश ते, पावै उत्तम देह।।५६५।।
If you cannot do it today, then do it the next day. Kabir says, through the sight of a saint, you will attain a superior body.
दूजे दिन नहिं करि सके, तीजे दिन करु जाय। कबीर साधु दरश ते, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय।।५६६।।
If you cannot do it the next day, then do it on the third day. Kabir says, through the sight of a saint, one can attain liberation and salvation.
पाख पाख नहिं करि सकै, मास-मास करु जाय। यामें देर न लाइये, कहैं कबीर समुझाय।।५६८।।
If you cannot do it seasonally, then do it monthly. Do not delay in this; Kabir advises to understand this.
मास-मास नहिं करि सकै, छठै मास अलबत्त। यामें ढील न कीजिए, कहैं कबीर अविगत।।५६९।।
If you cannot do it monthly, then do it every six months. Do not slack in this; Kabir advises to be persistent.
बरस-बरस नहिं करि सकै, ताको लागे दोष। कहैं कबीर वा जीव सो, कबहु न पावै मोष।।५७०।।
If one cannot do it year after year, they are at fault. Kabir says, such a soul will never attain liberation.
साधु भूखा भाव का, धन का भूखा नाहिं। धन का भूखा जो फिरै, सो तो साधु नाहिं।।५७४।।
A saint is hungry only for spiritual feelings, not for material wealth. One who wanders in search of wealth is not a true saint.
कंचन दीया करन ने, द्रौपदी दीया चीर। जो दीया सो पाइया, ऐसे कहैं कबीर।।५७५।।
Gold can be used to create a lamp, and the lamp can be used to tear Draupadi's cloth. The one who understands this truth is a true follower, says Kabir.
साधु आवत देखि कर, हंसी हमारी देह। माथा का ग्रह ऊतरा, नैनन बढ़ा स्नेह।।५७८।।
Upon seeing a saint, our body is filled with joy. The burden on the forehead is lifted, and the eyes are filled with affection.
साधु जन सब में रमैं, दुख न काहू देहि। अपने मत गाढ़ा रहै, साधुन का मय येहि।।५८१।।
A saint resides in everyone and does not cause suffering to anyone. He remains steadfast in his beliefs and lives in the essence of the saint.
कबीर शीतल जल नहीं, हिम ना शीतल होय। कबीर शीतल सन्त जन, राम सनेही सोय।।५८३।।
Kabir is not cold water, nor is he cold like snow. Kabir is the cool saint who is beloved of Lord Ram.
हरि दरबारी साधु हैं, इन ते सब कुछ होय। बेगि मिलावें राम को, इन्हें मिले जु कोय।।५८६।।
The saint is a true representative of God; everything can be achieved through him. Quickly seek out God, and you will find someone like him.
संत मिले जनि बीछरो, बिछरो यह मम प्रान। शब्द सनेही ना मिले, प्राण देह में आन।।५८७।।
If a saint is separated, it feels like my life is in separation. If I do not find a lover of words, it is like bringing my soul into the body.
निर्बेरी निहकामता, स्वामी सेती नेह। विषया सो न्यारा रहे, साधुन का मत येह।।५८८।।
True renunciation and devotion are to be with the Lord. The worldly matters remain separate; this is the belief of saints.
कोई आवै भाव लै, कोई अभाव ले आव। साधु दाऊ को पोषते, भाव न गिनै अभाव।।५८९।।
Some come with their own emotions, some come with needs. The saint nourishes them all, not counting their emotions or deficiencies.
साधु आया पाहना, मांगै चार रतन। धुनी पानी साथरा, सरधा सेती अन्न।।५९१।।
When a saint comes as a guest, he asks for four jewels. The hearth, water, and utensils are needed, and with devotion, food is served.
खाली साधु न बिदा करु, सुन लीजै सब कोय। कहैं कबीर कछु भेंट धरु, जो तेजे घर होय।।५९३।।
Do not send a saint away empty-handed; listen everyone. Kabir says, offer some gift according to your means, which brings blessings to your home.
साधु दरशन महाफल, कोटि यज्ञ फल लेह। इन मन्दिर को का पड़ी, नगर शुद्ध करि लेह।।५९४।।
The sight of a saint brings immense rewards, greater than the fruits of a million sacrifices. What need is there for temples? Purify the city by their presence.
बिरछा कबहुं न फल भखै, नदी न संचवै नीर। परमारथ के कारने, साधु धरा शरीर।।५९६।।
A tree does not eat its own fruit, and a river does not drink its own water. Similarly, a saint does not seek personal gain; he holds his body for the sake of altruism.
सुख देवै दुख को हरै, दूर करै अपराध। कहैं कबीर वह कब मिलै, परम स्नेही साध।।५९७।।
He who gives joy, removes sorrow, and eradicates sins, when will we find such a loving saint, as Kabir describes?
कोटि-कोटि तीरथ कर, कोटि-कोटि करु धाम। जब लग साधु न सेवई, तब लग काचा काम।।६०२।।
Visiting millions of pilgrimage sites and performing countless rituals are futile as long as one does not serve a saint.
सुनिये पार जो पाइया, छाजन भोजन आनि। कहैं कबीर संतन को, देत न कीजै कानि।।६०३।।
Listen, if you have achieved the other shore, provide shade and food. Kabir says, do not let the saints go without offering something.
साधु दरश को जाइये, जेता धरिये पांव। डग डग पै असमेध जग, कहैं कबीर समुझाय।।६०६।।
Visit the saint wherever you can; keep your feet in the path of devotion. Kabir explains, by every step in devotion, you understand the world.
कुलवंता कोटिक मिले, पंडित कोटि पचीस। सुपच भक्त की पनहि में, तुलै न काहू शीश।।६०७।।
Even if one meets countless noble and learned individuals, none can compare to a true devotee, who is unparalleled.
रक्त छाड़ि पय को गहै, ज्यौरे गऊ का बच्छ। औगुण छांड़ै गुण गहै, ऐसा साधु लच्छ।।६११।।
A saint should leave aside the blood (sacrifices) and accept milk (nourishment) like a calf. He should abandon vices and embrace virtues.
और देव नहिं चित्त बसै, मन गुरु चरण बसाय। स्वल्पाहार भोजन करु, तृष्णा दूर पराय।।६१६।।
Do not let any other deity occupy your mind, let your mind rest at the Guru’s feet. Consume minimal food and dispel cravings.
बंधा पानी निरमला, जो टूक गहिरा होय। साधु जन बैठा भला, जो कुछ साधन होय।।६१७।।
Water that is bound is pure if it is deep. Similarly, a saint is noble if he has the means to aid others.
साधु ऐसा चाहिए, जाका पूरा मंग। विपत्ति पड़ै छाड़ै नहीं, चढ़ै चौगुना रंग।।६१८।।
A saint should be one whose desires are complete. He does not abandon his path in the face of adversity and his color (virtue) increases fourfold.
संत न छाड़ै सन्तता, कोटिक मिलै असन्त। मलय भुवंगम बेधिया, शीतलता न तजन्त।।६२०।।
A saint does not abandon saintliness even if millions of non-saints are found. Like the Malaya breeze that pierces through, the saint does not give up his coolness.
साधु तो हीरा भया, न फूटै घन खाय। न वह बिनसै कुम्भ ज्यों, ना वह आवै जाय।।६२२।।
A saint is like a diamond, which does not break even if struck by a hammer. He neither perishes like a clay pot nor does he come and go.
संत समागम परम सुख, जान अल्प सुख और। मान सरोवर हंस है, बगुला ठौर ठौर।।६२४।।
The company of saints is supreme bliss; know that worldly pleasures are minor. The swan swims in the lake of honor, while the heron stays at different places.
हांसी खेल हराम है, जो जन रमते राम। माया मन्दिर इस्तरी, नहिं साधु का काम।।६२६।।
Laughter and play are forbidden for those who revel in Ram. The temple of illusion and women’s allure is not the work of a saint.
हयबर गयबर सघन घन, छत्रपति की नारि। तासु पटतरे ना तुले, हरिजन की पनिहारि।।६२७।।
The noble woman of a king cannot be compared to a common woman. The woman who serves the saints is incomparable to her.
सो दिन गया अकाज में, संगत भई न संत। प्रेम बिना पशु जीवना, भाव बिना भटकंत।।६३०।।
The day went in vain without meaningful company. Without love, life is like that of an animal, and without feeling, one wanders aimlessly.
जो मानुष गृह धर्म युत, राखै शील विचार। गुरुमुख बानी साधु संग, मन वच सेवा सार।।६३३।।
A person who upholds domestic and moral values with purity and thought is true. The essence of service is found in following the guru's words and associating with saints.
गिरही सेवै साधु को, भाव भक्ति आनंद। कहैं कबीर बैरागी को, निरबानी निरदुन्द।।६३५।।
A householder who serves the saint with devotion and joy is truly blessed. Kabir says that the renunciant who is indifferent is devoid of wisdom.
माला तिलक लगाय के, भक्ति न आई हाथ। ढाढ़ी मूंछ मुंडाय के, चले दुनी के साथ।।६३६।।
Wearing a garland and applying a tilak does not bring devotion. Shaving one's beard and mustache, and moving along with the world is not true devotion.
माला तिलक तो भेष है, राम भक्ति कछु और। कहैं कबीर जिन पहिरिया, पांचों राखै ठौर।।६४२।।
Garlands and tilaks are mere attire, while devotion to Ram is something else entirely. Kabir says, those who wear it, keep all five places sacred.
घर में रहै तो भक्ति करु, नातर करु बैराग। बैरागी बन्धन करै, ताका बड़ा अभाग।।६४३।।
Perform devotion while staying at home, and practice renunciation elsewhere. A renunciant who creates bonds is truly unfortunate.
जा घर गुरु की भक्ति नहीं, संत नहीं मिहमान। ता घर जम डेरा दिया, जीवत भये मसान।।६५४।।
In a home where there is no devotion to the guru and no saintly guest, the house becomes a dwelling place for death, and life becomes a graveyard.
एक घड़ी आधी घड़ी, आधी में पुनि आध। कबीर संगत साधु की, कटै कोटि अपराध।।६५७।।
One moment, half a moment, and within half a moment, another half. The company of saints, even for a short time, erases countless sins.
मथुरा काशी द्वारिका, हरिद्वार जगनाथ। साधु संगति हरिभजन बिन, कछु न आवै हाथ।।६६२।।
Even visiting sacred places like Mathura, Kashi, Dwarka, Haridwar, and Jagannath brings no benefit without the company of saints and the worship of God.
साखी शब्द बहुतै सुना, मिटा न मन का दाग। संगति सो सुधरा नहीं, ताका बड़ा अभाग।।६६३।।
Despite listening to many spiritual teachings, if the mind's stain is not removed, and one doesn't improve, then such a person is truly unfortunate.
ज्ञानी को ज्ञानी मिलै, रस की लूटम लूट। ज्ञानी अज्ञानी मिलै, हौवे माथा कूट।।६६४।।
When a wise person meets another wise person, they revel in joy. But when a wise person meets an ignorant one, it leads to frustration.
कबीर संगत साधु की, ज्यों गन्धी की बास। जो कुछ गन्धी दे नहीं, तो भी वास सुवास।।६६७।।
The company of saints is like the fragrance of perfume, even if the perfume is not applied, the fragrance spreads.
साहिब के दरबार में, कमी काहु की नाहि। बन्दा मौज न पावहीं, चूक चाकरी माहिं।।६६८।।
In the Lord's court, there is no lack of anything. But the servant does not experience joy due to neglecting their duties.
यह मन ताको दीजिए, सांचा सेवक होय। सिर ऊपर आरा सहै, तऊ न दूजा होय।।६७०।।
Surrender your mind to the true servant of God, who would endure any pain but never deviate from the path of truth.
विंतदय धरमक ध्वजा, धीरजवान प्रमान। सन्तोषी सुख दायका, सेवक परम सुजान।।६७१।।
The flag of righteousness is held by the patient; contentment brings joy, and a wise servant is truly skilled.
अनुराते सुखा सोवना, राते नींद न आय। ज्यों जल छुटी माछरी, तड़फत रैन बिहाय।।६७२।।
In deep love, one finds peace in sleep; without love, sleep doesn't come, like a fish out of water, one spends the night in restlessness.
सेवक स्वामी एक मत, मत में मत मिलि जाय। चतुराई रीझै नहीं, रीझै मन के भाया।।६७३।।
A true servant's mind aligns with the master's; cunningness doesn't win favor, but a heart aligned with devotion does.
गुरुमुख गुरु चितवन रहे, जैसे मणिहिं भुजंग। कहैं कबीर बिसरें नहीं, यह गुरुमुख को अंग।।६७४।।
A disciple should always keep their focus on the Guru, just as a snake is always focused on the gem. Kabir says, this is a true disciple's duty.
फल कारन सेवा करै, निशि-दिन जांचै राम। कहें कबीर सेवक नहीं, चाहै चौगुन दाम।।६७५।।
If one serves for the sake of reward, constantly seeking divine validation, Kabir says, such a person is not a true servant.
कहैं कबीर गुरु प्रेम बस, क्या नियरै क्या दूर।। जाका चित्त जासों बसै, सो तेहि सदा हजूर।।६७६।।
Kabir says, for a disciple in deep love with their Guru, distance doesn't matter; the one who resides in the heart is always present.
गुरु आज्ञा ले आवही, गुरु आज्ञा ले जाय। कहैं कबीर सो सन्त प्रिय, बहु विधि अमृत पाय।।६७८।।
Kabir says, a saint who follows the Guru's command in every action is dear and attains the nectar of divine knowledge.
सेवक सेवा में रहै, सेवक कहिये सोय। कहैं कबीर सेवा बिना, सेवक कभी न होय।।६७९।।
A true servant is one who remains devoted to service. Kabir says, without service, one cannot be called a servant.
सब कुछ गुरु के पास है, पाइये अपने भाग। सेवक मन सौप्यां रहै, रहैं चरण में लाग।।६८२।।
Everything is with the Guru; one obtains it by their destiny. The true servant submits their mind and remains devoted at the Guru's feet.
यह सब लच्छन चित्त धरे, अपलच्छन सब त्याग। सावधन सम ध्यान है, गुरु चरनन में लाग।।६८३।।
Hold onto these qualities in your mind and discard all that is undesirable. True attention is focused on the Guru's feet.
गुरुमुख गुरु आज्ञा चलै, छांड़ि दे सब काम। कहैं कबीर गुरुदेव को, तुरत करै परणाम।।६८४।।
A disciple who follows the Guru's command should abandon all other tasks. Kabir says, such a devotee promptly offers respect to the Guru.
निरबन्धन बंधा रहै, बंधा निरबंध होय। कर्म करै करता नहीं, दास कहावै सोय।।६८५।।
The one who is bound by ties is bound by no ties at all. A person who does not perform actions is called a true servant.
काहूं को न संतापिये, जो शिर हंता होय। फिर फिर वाकूं बन्दिये, दास लच्छ है सोय।।६८७।।
Do not trouble anyone who is constantly troubled; the one who repeatedly turns to words is considered to be a true servant.
निहकामी निरमल दशा, नित चरणों की आश। तीरथ इच्छा ता करै, कब आवै वे दास।।६८८।।
One who is free from desires and maintains a pure state, always hoping for the Guru's presence, performs pilgrimage as a true devotee.
सुख दुख सिर ऊपरे सहै, कबहु न छाड़े संग। रंग न लागै और का, व्यापै सतगुरु रंग।।६८९।।
One who endures both pleasure and pain without abandoning their association, is dyed in the true color of the Guru, which is beyond all other hues.
दासातन हिरदै नहीं, नाम धरावै दास। पानी के पीये बिना, कैसे मिटै पियास।।६९१।।
A true servant does not possess pride; they are known by their devotion. Without drinking water, how can thirst be quenched?
दासातन हिरदै बसै, साधुन सों आधीन। कहैं कबीर सो दास है, प्रेम भक्ति लवलीन।।६९२।।
A true servant resides in the heart and is devoted to the saints. Kabir says such a servant is absorbed in love and devotion.
दास कहावन कठिन है, मैं दासन का दास। अब तो होय रहूं, पांव तले की घास।।६९३।।
To be called a servant is difficult; I am a servant of servants. Now, I remain like the grass underfoot.
कबीर कुल सोई भला, जो कुल उपजै दास। जा कुल दास न ऊपजे, सो कुल आक पलास।।६९४।।
Kabir says, a family is truly noble if it produces a servant. A family where no servant is born is like a barren wasteland.
गुरु समरथ सिर पर खड़े, कहा कमी तोहि दास। रिद्धि-सिद्धि सेवा करैं, मुक्ति न छाड़े पास।।६९५।।
The Guru stands supreme; what deficiency do you perceive, O servant? Wealth and powers may serve, but they do not abandon the pursuit of liberation.
कबीर गुरु सबको चहै, गुरु को चहै न कोय। जब लग आश शरीर की, तब लग दास न होय।।६९६।।
Kabir says, the Guru desires for everyone, but no one desires the Guru. As long as there is hope in the body, one cannot be a true servant.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति का, मन में बहुत हुलास। मन-मनसा माजै नहीं, होन चहत है दास।।६९७।।
Kabir says, devotion to the Guru brings great joy to the mind. If the mind is not pure, one cannot be a true servant.
भक्ति भाव भादौ नदी, सबहि चली घहराय। सरिता सोई सराहिये, जेठ मास ठहराय।।६९९।।
The feeling of devotion flows like the river in the rainy season, widespread and abundant. The river that flows in the summer is truly commendable.
तिमिर गया रवि देखते, कुमति गयी गुरु ज्ञान। सुमति गयी अति लोभते, भक्ति गयी अभिमान।।७००।।
When darkness departs, the sun is visible; similarly, ignorance leaves with the knowledge of the guru. Goodness fades with excessive greed, and devotion is lost with pride.
भक्ति भेष बहु अन्तरा, जैसे धरनि अकाश। भक्त लीन गुरु चरण में, भेष जगत की आश।।७०१।।
Devotion can be concealed under many disguises, just as the sky is covered by the earth. A true devotee is absorbed in the guru's feet, disregarding the world's appearance.
जब लग नाता जाति का, तब लग भक्ति न होय। नाता तोड़े गुरु भजै, भक्ति कहावे सोय।।७०२।।
As long as one clings to caste and lineage, true devotion is not achieved. One must break these attachments and worship the guru for true devotion.
प्रेम बिना जो भक्ति है, सो निज दंभ विचार। उदर भरन के कारन, जन्म गंवाये सार।।७०३।।
Devotion without love is mere hypocrisy. It is a result of seeking to fill one's own needs, rendering the birth useless.
भाव बिना नहीं भक्ति जग, भक्ति बिना नहीं भाव। भक्ति भाव इक रूप है, दोऊ एक सुभाव।।७०४।।
Without emotion, there is no devotion; without devotion, there is no emotion. Devotion and emotion are one and the same, both are of the same nature.
जाति बरन कुल खोय के, भक्ति करै चितलाय। कहैं कबीर सतगुरु मिले, आवागमन निशाय।।७०५।।
One who performs devotion by renouncing caste, class, and lineage achieves true devotion. Kabir says, upon meeting the true guru, one escapes the cycle of birth and death.
विषय त्याग बैराग है, समता कहिये ज्ञान। सुखदायी सब जीव सों, यही भक्ति परमान।।७०६।।
Renunciation of desires is asceticism; equanimity is knowledge. True devotion is that which brings happiness to all beings.
भक्ति पदारथ तब मिले, जब गुरु होय सहाय। प्रेम प्रीति की भक्ति जो, पूरण भाग मिलाय।।७०७।।
The essence of devotion is attained when the guru supports it. Devotion filled with love and affection brings about complete fulfillment.
और कर्म सब कर्म है, भक्ति कर्म निहकर्म। कहैं कबीर पुकारि के, भक्ति करो तजि भर्म।।७०८।।
All actions are just actions, but devotion is beyond action. Kabir says, renounce deceptive rituals and practice true devotion.
भक्ति महल बहु ऊंच है, दूरहि ते दरशाय। जो कोई जन भक्ति करे, शोभा बरनि न जाय।।७०९।।
Devotion is a grand palace, shown from afar. Anyone who practices devotion, its glory cannot be described.
भक्ति की यह रीति है, बंधे करे जो भाव। परमारथ के कारने, यह तन रहो कि जाव।।७१०।।
The nature of devotion is to bind with feelings. For the sake of higher purpose, whether this body remains or not, does not matter.
भक्ति बिना नहिं निस्तरै, लाख करै जो कोय। शब्द सनेही ह्वै रहे, घर को पहुंचे सोय।।७११।।
Without devotion, no one can escape, no matter how many efforts are made. The true lover of words will find their way home.
भक्ति कठिन अति दुर्लभ, भेष सुगम नित सोय। भक्ति जु न्यारी भेष से, यह जानै सब कोय।।७१२।।
Devotion is extremely difficult and rare, while external appearances are easy to attain. Everyone knows that devotion is different from mere appearances.
भक्ति-बीज पलटै नहीं, जो जुग जाय अनन्त। ऊंच नीच घर अवतरै, होय सन्त का सन्त।।७१३।।
The seed of devotion does not change, even if ages pass. It transcends all distinctions of high and low, as it is the true saint’s quality.
देखा देखी भक्ति का, कबहुं न चढसी रंग। विपत्ति पड़े यो छाड़सी, केचुलि तजत भुजंग।।७१४।।
Imitative devotion will never take root. When difficulties arise, it will be abandoned just like a snake sheds its skin.
आरत है गुरु भक्ति करु, सब कारज सिध होय। करम जाल भौजाल में, भक्त फंसे नहि कोय।।७१५।।
If one is devoted to the guru, all tasks will be fulfilled. In the web of actions, no devotee will be ensnared.
भक्ति दुहेली गुरुन की, नहिं कायर का काम। सीस उतारे हाथ सों, ताहि मिलै निज धाम।।७१६।।
True devotion to the guru is not the work of cowards. One who humbly offers their head and hands to the guru will attain their own abode.
भक्ति जु सीढ़ी मुक्ति की, चढ़े भक्त हरषाय। और न कोई चढि सकै, निज मन समझो आय।।७१७।।
Devotion is the ladder to liberation, and the devotee climbs it with joy. No other can climb this ladder; understand this in your own mind.
भक्ति सोई जो भाव सों, इक मन चित को राख। सांच शील सो खेलिए, मैं तें दोऊ नाख।।७१८।।
True devotion is that which remains in a single mind and heart. Let us play with true virtue; I do not desire either of the two.
भक्ति निसैनी मुक्ति की, संत चढ़े सब धाय। जिन जिन मन आलस दिया, जनम जनम पछिताय।।७१९।।
Devotion is the key to liberation; saints all follow this path. Those who remain lazy in their minds will regret for lifetimes.
भक्ति पंथ बहु कठिन है, रती न चालै खोट। निराधार का खेल है, अधर थार की चोट।।७२०।।
The path of devotion is very difficult; it does not tolerate falsehood. It is a play of the unsupported, a blow to the unsteady.
भक्ति गेंद चौगान की, भावै कोइ लै जाय। कहैं कबीर कछु भेद नहिं, कहां रंक कहं राय।।७२१।।
Devotion is like a game of ball; anyone who desires can take part. Kabir says there is no distinction; whether one is a pauper or a prince, all can partake.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिन, धिक जीवन संसार। धूवां का सा धौरहरा, बिनसत लगे न बार।।७२२।।
Without devotion to the Guru, life and the world are cursed. It is like a cloud of smoke, which never clears away.
भक्ति दुवारा सांकरा, राई दशवें भाय। मन तो मैंगल होय रहा, कैसे आवै जाय।।७२३।।
Devotion is the pillar of support; without it, all efforts are futile. If the mind is impure, how can it achieve liberation?
टोटे में भक्ति करैं, ताका नाम सपूत। मायाधारी मसखरैं, केते गये अऊत।।७२४।।
Those who practice devotion in the parrot (of the world) are considered virtuous. Those who are false and deceitful, many have left this way.
भक्ति-भक्ति सब कोई कहै, भक्ति न जाने भेव। परण भक्ति जब मिलै, कृपा करै गुरुदेव।।७२५।।
Everyone speaks of devotion, but few understand its essence. When true devotion is found, it is blessed by the Guru.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति करु, तज विषया रस चौंज। बार-बार नहिं पाइये, मानुष जनम की मौज।।७२६।।
Practice devotion to the Guru, abandon the allure of worldly pleasures. Human life is rare and should not be wasted.
सुमिरण मारग सहज का, सतगुरु दिया बताय। सांस सांस सुमिरण करुं, इक दिन मिलसी आय।।७२७।।
The path of remembrance is simple; the True Guru has shown it. Remain in constant remembrance, and one day you will achieve your goal.
बिना सांच सुमिरन नहीं, बिन भेदी भक्ति न होय। पारस में परदा रहा, कस लोहा कंचन होय।।७३०।।
Without true remembrance, there is no devotion. Without understanding the essence, devotion cannot be achieved. Even if gold is hidden in iron, it remains iron.
लम्बा मारग दूर घर, बिकट पंथ बहु मार। कहो सन्त क्यों पाइये, दुर्लभ गुरु दीदार।।७३२।।
The path is long and distant from home, and the way is fraught with many difficulties. Saint, how can one attain the rare sight of the Guru?
नाम जो रत्ती एक है, पाप जु रत्ती हजार। आध रत्ती घट संचरै, जारि करे सब छार।।७३३।।
The name is worth a single unit, whereas sin is worth a thousand units. A half-unit of sin spreads throughout the entire body, burning everything to ashes.
माला सांस उसांस की, फेरै कोई निज दास। चौरासी भरमै नहीं, कटै करम की फांस।।७३४।।
The rosary is like the breath and exhalation; it is only used by a devoted servant. In the cycle of 84 lakh births, it does not cut the threads of karma.
वाद विवादां मत करो, करु नित एक विचार। नाम सुमिर चित लायके, सब करनी में सार।।७३५।।
Do not indulge in arguments and disputes; always maintain a single thought. Focus your mind on the Name, as it is the essence of all actions.
जो कोय सुमिरन अंग को, निशिवासर करै पाठ। कहैं कबीर सो संत जन, सन्धै औघट घाट।।७३६।।
Whoever constantly remembers the limbs of the body and practices daily, Kabir says that such a person is a true saint, transcending all doubts and dilemmas.
सांस सफल सो जानिये, जो सुमिरन में जाय। और सांस यौं ही गये, करि बहुत उपाय।।७३७।।
Consider the breath successful if it leads to remembrance. Otherwise, despite all efforts, if the breath goes on as usual, it is not successful.
नाम रतन धन पाय के, गांठी बांध न खोल। नहिं पाटनहिं पार भी, नहिं गाहक नहिं मोल।।७३९।।
The name is a precious jewel, but once it is obtained, it cannot be bound or sold. It cannot be used for trading or profit.
कहा भरोसा देह का, बिनसि जाय छिन मांहि। सांस सांस सुमिरन करो, और जतन कछु नांंहि।।७४०।।
Where is the trust in the body, which perishes in an instant? Instead, remember each breath and do not rely on worldly efforts.
जाकी पूंजी सांस है, छिन आवै छिन जाय। ताको ऐसा चाहिए, रहे नाम लौ लाय।।७४१।।
One whose capital is the breath, which comes and goes in an instant, should aim to keep the flame of the name burning.
नाम जपत दरिद्री भला, टूटी घर की छान। कंचन मन्दिर जारि दे, जहां न सतगुरु ज्ञान।।७४२।।
Chanting the name is better for the poor than a broken roofed house. Gold temples are of no use where there is no knowledge of the true Guru.
कबीर हरि के मिलन की, बात सुनो हम दोय। कै कछु हरि को नाम ले, कै कर ऊंचा होय।।७४३।।
Listen to the talk of meeting Hari. Some gain by taking the name of Hari, and some achieve greatness by deeds.
नाम लिया जिन सब लिया, सब सास्त्रन को भेद। बिना नाम नरके गये, पढ़ि गुनि चारों वेद।।७४४।।
Those who have taken the name have understood all the scriptures' secrets. Without the name, even those learned in the Vedas go to hell.
माला फेरत जग भया, मिटा न मन का फेर। कर का मनका डारि दे, मनका मन का फेर।।७४५।।
Turning the beads does not remove the inner turmoil. Throw away the beads of the hand and focus on the turmoil of the mind.
जो कोय सुमिरन अंग को, पाठ करै मन लाय। भक्ति ज्ञान मन ऊपजै, कहैं कबीर समुझाय।।७४६।।
One who remembers the limbs of the body and recites with a focused mind, will develop devotion and knowledge, says Kabir.
क्रिया करै अंगरि गिनै, मन धावै चहुं ओर। जिहि फेरै सांई मिलै, सो भय काठ कठोर।।७४७।।
One who counts the actions and moves the mind in all directions will find that the path to meeting the divine is harsh and difficult.
तन थिर मन थिर बचन थिर, सुरति निरति थिर होय। कहैं कबीर उस दास को, कल्प न व्यापे कोय।।७४८।।
When the body is steady, the mind is steady, speech is steady, and perception and attention are steady, says Kabir, then no illusion can affect such a devotee.
कोटि नाम संसार में, ताते मुक्ति न होय। आदि नाम जो गुप्त जप, बिरला जाने कोय।।७४९।।
In the world, countless names are uttered, but liberation is not achieved through them. Only the hidden and ancient name that is secretly recited is known to very few.
राम नाम जिन औषधि, सतगुरु दई बताय। औषधि खाय रु पथ रहै, ताकी बेदन जाय।।७५०।।
The name of Rama is the medicine that the true Guru has given. Taking this medicine, one stays on the right path and overcomes pain.
राम नाम को सुमिरता, ऊधरे पतित अनेक। कबीर कबहू नहिं छाड़िये, राम नाम की टेक।।७५१।।
By meditating on the name of Rama, many fallen souls are uplifted. Kabir says, never abandon the support of Rama's name.
नीद निशानी मौत की, उठ कबीरा जाग। और रसायन छांडिके, राम रसायन लाग।।७५२।।
Sleep is a sign of death; wake up, Kabir, and be aware. Abandon other medicines and embrace the medicine of Rama's name.
जबहि नाम हिरद धरा, भया पाप का नाश। मानो चिनगा आग को, परो परान घास।।७५४।।
When the name is held in the heart, sins are eradicated. It is like placing dry grass on a burning fire; it extinguishes the fire.
कबीर क्षुधा है कूकरी, करत भजन में भंग। वाकूं टुकड़ा डारि के, सुमिरन करुं सुरंग।।७५५।।
Hunger is the dog's bark; it disrupts devotion. Throw a piece of bread to it, and focus on meditation.
बाहिर क्या दिखलाइये, अन्तर जपिये राम। कहा महोला खलक सों, पयों धनी सों काम।।७५६।।
Why display externally? Meditate on Rama within. What is the use of showing off with the crowd when you have work with the Divine?
कबीर सुमिरन सार है, और सकल जंजाल। आदि अंत मधि सोधिया, दूजा देखा काल।।७५७।।
Kabir says that remembrance is essential and cuts through all entanglements. Seek the essence from beginning to end; otherwise, time will deceive you.
कबीर हरि-हरि सुमिरि ले, प्राण जाहिंगे छूट। घर के प्यारे आदमी, चलते लेंगे लूट।।७५८।।
Kabir says that by remembering Hari (God), one's soul is liberated. Those who are dear at home may end up taking away the loot (worldly gains).
निज सुख आतम राम है, दूजा दुख अपार। मनसा वाचा करमना, कबीर सुमिरन सार।।७५९।।
The self-happiness is the soul's Ram, while the other is boundless sorrow. Through mind, speech, and actions, Kabir says, remembering is the essence.
सुमिरण से सुख होत हैं, सुमिरण से दुख जाय। कहैं कबीर सुमिरण किये, सांई मांहि समाय।।७६०।।
By remembrance, happiness is attained, and by remembrance, sorrow is removed. Kabir says, through remembrance, the soul merges with the Lord.
सुमिरन सो मन लाइये, जैसे पानी मीन। प्राण तजे पल बीछुरे, सत्य कबीर कहि दीन।।७६१।।
Let the mind be engaged in remembrance as a fish is in water. Even if life is separated for a moment, Kabir says, the truth remains.
सुमिरन सों मन जब लगै, ज्ञानाकुस दे सीस। कहैं कबीर डोलै नहीं, निश्चै बिस्वा बीस।।७६२।।
When the mind is engaged in remembrance, it wears the crown of wisdom. Kabir says, it does not waver; it certainly remains steadfast.
सुख के माथे शिल परै, नाम हृदय से जाय। बलिहारी वा दुख की, पल पल नाम रटाय।।७६३।।
Happiness is inscribed on the forehead, but the name reaches the heart. I am devoted to the sorrow that keeps repeating the name every moment.
कबीर मुख सोई भला, जा मुख निकसै राम। जा मुख राम न नीकसै, ता मुख है किस काम।।७६५।।
Kabir says, a face is good if it speaks of Ram. If the face does not speak of Ram, what is its use?
जसे माया मन रमैं, तैसा राम रमाय। तारा मण्डल बेधि के, तब अमरापुर जाय।।७६६।।
As the mind dwells in illusion, so does Ram dwell in the heart. When you pierce the cosmic sphere, you reach the eternal abode.
एक राम को जानि करि, दूजा देह बहाय। तीरथ व्रत जप तप नहीं, सतगुरु चरण समाय।।७६८।।
By knowing the one Ram, discard the second (body). Pilgrimages, vows, chants, and penance are not needed; merge with the feet of the true Guru.
जीना थोड़ा ही भला, हरि का सुमिरन होय। लाख बरस की जीवना, लेखै धरै न कोय।।७६९।।
A short life is good if it is spent in the remembrance of Hari. A lifetime of a million years is of no account if it is not spent in devotion.
सहकामी सुमिरन करै, पावै उत्तम धाम। निहकामी सुमिरन करै, पावै अविचल राम।।७७०।।
One who remembers with a desire for reward attains the highest abode. One who remembers without desire attains the unwavering Ram.
सुमिरन सुरति लगाय के, मुख ते कछू न बोल। बाहर के पट देय के, अन्तर के पट खोल।।७७१।।
While engaging in remembrance, speak nothing from the mouth. Close the external doors and open the internal ones.
सुरति समावे नाम में, जग से रहे उदास। कहैं कबीर गुरु चरण में, दढ़ राखो विश्वास।।७७२।।
When the mind is absorbed in the name, remain indifferent to the world. Kabir says, firmly keep faith in the Guru's feet.
सुमिरन सों मन लाइये, जैसे दीप पतंग। प्राण तजे छिन एक में, जरत न मोरै अंग।।७७३।।
Let the mind be focused in remembrance like a moth to the flame. Even if the life is sacrificed for a moment, it does not burn the body.
राम जपत कुष्टी भला, चुइ चुइ पैर जु चाम। कंचन देह किस काम की, जो मुख नाहिं राम।।७७५।।
Chanting Ram is good even if it is done while wearing a thread. What use is a golden body if it does not speak of Ram?
माला तो कर में फिरै, जीभ फिरै मुख मांहि। मनुवा तो चहुं दिशि फिरै, यह तो सुमिरन नांहि।।७७६।।
The rosary moves in the hand, the tongue moves in the mouth. The mind wanders in all directions, this is not true remembrance.
वाद करै सो जानिये, निगरे का वह काम। संतो को फुरसत नहीं, सुमिरन करते राम।।७७७।।
One who engages in arguments is a miser. The saints have no time for disputes; they are busy remembering Ram.
कोई न से जम बांचिया, राम बिना धरि खाय। जो जन बिरही राम के, ताको देखि डराय।।७७८।।
No one has escaped from Yama (Death) without holding on to Ram. Those who long for Ram, even Yama fears them.
ज्ञान कथे बकि बकि मरै, काहे करै उपाय। सतगुरु ने तो या कहा, सुमिरन करो बनाय।।७७९।।
Knowledge discussed and discussed dies in vain, what is the use of remedies? The true Guru has said, make remembrance your practice.
सुमिरण की सुधि यौं करो, जैसे कामी काम। एक पलक बिसरै नहीं, निश दिन आठौ जाम।।७८०।।
Rememberance should be done like a lover for his beloved. Do not forget even for a moment, throughout the day and night.
सुमिरण की सुधि यौं करो, ज्यौं गागर पनिहारि। हालै डोलै सुरति में, कहैं कबीर विचारि।।७८१।।
Rememberance should be done like a water-carrier with a pitcher. The mind should constantly remain in that remembrance, says Kabir.
पूंजि मेरी राम है, जाते सदा निहाल। कबीर गरजे पुरुष बल, चोरी करै न काल।।७८२।।
My wealth is Ram, who is always prosperous. Kabir roars like a strong man; time cannot steal from him.
जाकी गांठी राम है, ताके हैं सब सिद्धि। कर जोड़ी ठाढ़ी सबै, अष्ट सिद्धि नव निद्धि।।७८३।।
One who has Ram in his heart, all achievements are his. With folded hands, he possesses all the eight and nine siddhis.
आदि नाम पारस अहै, मन है मैला लोह। परसत ही कंचन भया, छूटा बन्धन मोह।।७८४।।
The primal name is like the philosopher's stone, the mind is impure iron. Upon its touch, it becomes gold, and the bonds of illusion are broken.
लूटि सके तो लूटि ले, राम नाम की लूट। फिर पाछे पछताहुगे, प्राण जाहिंगे छूट।।७८५।।
Steal if you can, steal the loot of Ram's name. In the end, you will regret; the soul will be liberated.
माला मेरै कह भयो, हिरदा गांठि न खोय। गुरु चरनन चित राखिये, तो अमरापुर जोय।।७८६।।
What use is the rosary to me if the heart is not free of knots? Keep the mind fixed on the Guru's feet, and you will attain the immortal abode.
कबीर आपन राम कहि, औरन राम कहाय। जा मुख राम न नीसरै, ता मुख राम कहाय।।७८७।।
Kabir says, call it your own Ram, and others call it Ram as well. If Ram does not appear on the lips, then what is the use of that mouth calling Ram?
अस औरसर नहिं पाइहो, धरो राम कड़िहार। भौ सागर तरि जाव जब, पलक न लागे बार।।७८९।।
There is no other way to cross, hold onto the Ram's name firmly. When you cross the ocean of worldly life, not even a moment will be wasted.
कबीर हरि के नाम में, सुरति रहै करतार। ता मुख से मोती झरे, हीरा अनंत अपार।।७९०।।
Kabir says, in the name of Hari, the consciousness remains on the Creator. From that mouth, pearls and infinite diamonds flow.
कोटि करम कटि पलक में, रंचन आवै राम। जुग अनेक जो पुन्य करु, नहिं राम बिनु ठाम।।७९१।।
Countless actions are cut away in a moment if Ram is attained. Even if countless eons of merit are accumulated, nothing is attained without Ram.
दुख में सुमिरन सब करै, सुख में करै न कोय। जो सुख में सुमिरन कर, तो दुख काहे को होय।।७९२।।
Everyone remembers in sorrow, but no one does in happiness. If one remembers in happiness, then why would sorrow exist?
थोड़ा सुमिरन बहुत सुख, जो करि जानै कोय। हरदी लग न फिटकरी, चोखा ही रंग होय।।७९४।।
A little remembrance brings great happiness if one truly understands. Turmeric alone is not enough; it is the purity that determines the color.
जहां प्रेम तह नेम नहीं, तहां न बुधि व्यवहार। प्रेम मगन जब मन भया, कौन गिनै तिथि वार।।७९६।।
Where there is love, there are no rules; where there is no understanding or behavior. When the mind is immersed in love, who counts the days and dates?
अधिक सनेही माछरी, दूजा अलप सनेह। जबही जलते बीछुरै, तबही त्यागै देह।।७९७।।
The fish with more love is more attached, while the other has less affection. When it is burning in water, it abandons the body.
प्रेम बिकाता मैं सुना, माथा साटै हाट। पूछत बिलम न कीजिये, तब छिन दीजै काट।।७९८।।
I have heard that love is sold, and heads are placed at the market. Do not delay in asking; when the moment is gone, it is cut off.
नाम रसायन प्रेम रस, पीवत अधिक रसाल। कबीर पीवन दुर्लभ है, मांगै शीश कमाल।।७९९।।
The essence of the name is the nectar of love; drinking it makes one feel more delightful. Kabir says drinking this nectar is rare; it requires the offering of one's head.
प्रेम पांवरी पहिरि के, धीरज कज्जल देह। शील सिंदूर भराय के, तब पिय का सुख लेय।।८००।।
Wear the garment of love, and patience will be the eyeliner for the body. When adorned with the vermilion of virtue, then enjoy the happiness of the beloved.
प्रेम छिपाया ना छिपै, जा घट परघट होय। जो पै मुख बोलै नहीं, नैन देत हैं रोय।।८०१।।
Love cannot be hidden; it becomes apparent wherever the body is. If the mouth does not speak, the eyes still reveal it through tears.
प्रेम बिना धीरज नहीं, बिरह बिना वैराग। सतगुरु बिन जावै नहीं, मन मनसा का दाग।।८०२।।
Without love, there is no patience; without separation, there is no renunciation. Without the True Guru, one cannot overcome the stains of the mind and its desires.
प्रेम भक्ति में रचि रहैं, मोक्ष मुक्ति फल पाय। शब्द मांहि जब मिलि रहै, नहिं आवै नहिं जाय।।८०३।।
Love, when immersed in devotion, brings the fruit of liberation and salvation. When it merges with the word, it neither comes nor goes.
अमृत पावै ते जना, सतगुरु लागा कान। वस्तु अगोचर मिलि गई, मन नहिं आवा आन।।८०४।।
One who receives the nectar has their ears attuned to the True Guru. The intangible essence is attained, and the mind does not come or go elsewhere.
यह तो घर है प्रेम का, ऊंचा अधिक इकंत। शीष काटि पग तर धरै, तब पैठे कोई संत।।८०५।।
This is the abode of love, exalted and solitary. One must cut off their head and place their feet there to enter this sacred place.
यह तत वह तत एक है, एक प्रान दुई गात। अपने जिय से जानिये, मेरे जिय की बात।।८०६।।
This essence and that essence are one; one breath with two forms. Understand from your own heart, what is spoken from my heart.
आया प्रेम कहां गया, देखा था सब कोय। छिन रावै छिन में हंसै, सो तो प्रम न होय।।८०८।।
Where has love gone, which was seen everywhere? If it fades in a moment and laughs in another, that is not true love.
आठ पहर चौसठ घड़ी, लागि रहे अनुराग। हिरदै पलक न बीसरे, तब सांचा बैराग।।८०९।।
The devotion persists through all eight parts of the day and sixty-four moments. When the heart does not forget even for a moment, then true renunciation is achieved.
जाके चित्त अनुराग है, ज्ञान मिने नर सोय। बिन अनुराक न पावई, कोटि करै जो कोय।।८१०।।
One who has devotion in their mind, obtains knowledge and enlightenment. Without devotion, even those who perform millions of actions cannot attain it.
प्रीति ताहि सो कीजिये, जो आप समाना होय। कबहुक जो अवगुन पड़ै, गुन ही लहै समोय।।८११।।
Love is for that which merges with the self. When faults arise, one should absorb the virtues and merge with them.
सबै रसायन हम पिया, प्रेम समान न कोय। रंचक तन में संचरै, सब तन कंचन होय।।८१२।।
All elixirs are consumed by us, but none are equal to love. Even the insignificant body becomes golden when love resides in it.
प्रेम प्रेम सब कोइ कहै, प्रेम न चीन्है कोय। जा मारण साहिब मिलै, प्रेम कहावै सोय।।८१३।।
Everyone speaks of love, but no one truly understands it. When one meets the true master, then only can love be understood.
मिलना जग में कठिन है, मिलि बिछरौ जनि कोय। बिछुरा साजन तिहि मिलै, जिहि माथै मनि होय।।८१४।।
Meeting in the world is difficult, and once met, separation is inevitable. The separated beloved is found in the one who has a gem on their forehead.
प्रेम बिना नहिं भेष कछु, नाहक करै सुवाद। प्रेम बाद जग लग नहीं, सबै भेष बरबाद।।८१५।।
Without love, no disguise is of any use, and it leads to unnecessary pretense. After love, the world seems meaningless, and all disguises are ruined.
प्रेम भाव इक चाहिए, भेष अनेक बनाय। भावै घर में वास कर, भावै बन में जाय।।८१६।।
One needs only the essence of love, though many disguises are created. Love resides in the heart, but it also manifests in the forest (or natural state).
प्रेमी ढूंढत मैं फिरुं, प्रेमी मिलै न कोय। प्रेमी सों प्रेमी मिलै, विष से अमृत होय।।८१७।।
I search for the beloved, but I find no lover. When one lover meets another, the poison becomes nectar.
जा घट प्रेम न संचरै, सो घट जानु मसान। जैसे खाल लुहार की, सांस लेत बिन प्रान।।८१८।।
A body where love does not reside is like a cremation ground. Just like a leather hide that breathes without life.
गहरी प्रीति सुजान की, बढ़त-बढ़त बढ़ि जाय। ओछी प्रीति अजान की, घटत घटत घटि जाय।।८१९।।
Deep love of the wise continually grows and expands. Shallow love of the ignorant diminishes and fades away.
जब लग मरने से डरैं, तब लगि प्रेमी नांहि। बड़ी दूर है प्रेम घर, समझ लेहु मन मांहि।।८२०।।
As long as there is fear of death, true love is not present. The home of love is very far; understand this in your mind.
गुणवेता औ द्रव्य को, प्रीति करै सब कोय। कबीर प्रीति सो जानिये, इनते न्यारी होय।।८२१।।
Everyone shows love for wealth and material things. Kabir says, true love is something entirely different from this.
प्रेम न बाड़ी ऊपजै, प्रेम न हाट बिकाय। राजा परजा जो रुचै, शीश देय ले जाय।।८२२।।
Love does not grow in a garden or get sold in the market. The king and the subjects will willingly give their heads for love.
प्रेम प्रीति से जो मिले, ताको मिलिये धाय। कपट राखिके जो मिले, तासे मिलै बलाय।।८२४।।
Meet those who come with genuine love and affection. Avoid those who come with deceit and falsehood.
प्रेम पियाला जो पिये, शीश दच्छिना देय। लोभी शीश न दे सकै, नाम प्रेम का लेय।।८२५।।
One who drinks the cup of love should offer their head as a token of gratitude. A greedy person cannot offer their head, they merely take the name of love.
आगि आंचि सहना सुगम, सुगम खड़क की धार। नेह निबाहन एक रस, महा कठिन ब्यौहार।।८२६।।
Enduring fire and heat is easy compared to enduring the edge of a sword. Maintaining love with consistency is a very difficult task.
प्रीति पुरानि न होत है, जो उत्तम से लाग। सो बरसां जल में रहै, पथर न छोड़े आग।।८२७।।
Old affection does not endure, which binds with the best. It remains in water for years, but does not leave the stone untouched by fire.
प्रीति बहत संसार में, नाना विधि की सोय। उत्तम प्रीति सो जानिये, सतगुरु से जो होय।।८२८।।
Affection is widespread in the world, in many forms and ways. True affection is known to be that which comes from the true guru.
प्रेम पंथ में पग धरै, देत न शीश डराय। सपने मोह व्यापे नहिं, ताको जन्म नशाय।।८२९।।
One who walks the path of love does not fear or bow his head. He is not affected by illusions or dreams, and his birth is not wasted.
सजन सनेही बहुत हैं, सुख में मिले अनेक। बिपत्ति पड़े दुख बांटिये, सो लाखन में एक।।८३०।।
There are many friends and beloveds in times of joy. But in times of calamity and sorrow, a true friend is rare.
छिनहि चढ छिन उतरै, सो तो प्रेम न होय। औघट घाट पिंजर बसै, प्रेम कहावै सोय।।८३१।।
That which rises and falls momentarily is not true love. True love is steady and stable, like a vessel or container.
जब मैं था तब हरि नहीं, अब हरि है मैं नाहिं। प्रेम गली अति सांकरी, तामें दो न समांहि।।८३२।।
When I was, there was no Hari; now Hari is, but I am not. The path of love is very narrow, in it two cannot fit.
यह तो घर है प्रेम का, खाला का घर नाहिं। शीष उतारै भुई धरै, तब पैठे घर माहिं।।८३३।।
This is the home of love, not of the maternal uncle's house. One must remove the headgear and place it on the ground to enter this home.
इत पर घर उत है घरा, बनिजन आये हाट। करम करीना बेचि के, उठि करि चालो बाट।।८३६।।
This is the house of love, not a place for traders to come and go. Selling your actions like merchandise, get up and continue on your path.
राम भजो तो अब भजो, बहोरि भजोगे कब्ब। हरिया हरिया रुखड़े, ईंधन हो गये सब्ब।।८३९।।
Worship Ram now if you will worship; otherwise, you will regret later. The green trees have become firewood.
दुनिया सेती दोसती, होय भजन में भंग। एका एकी राम सों, कै साधुन के संग।।८४०।।
Friendship with the world causes disruption in devotion. True unity is with Ram alone, and with the company of the saints.
कबीर यह तन जात है, सकै तो ठौर लगाव। कै सेवा कर साधु की, कै गुरु के गुन गाव।।८४१।।
Kabir says, this body is transient; if possible, find a place for it. Serve the saints and sing the praises of the guru.
कबीर या संसार में, घना मानुष मतिहीन। राम नाम जाना नहीं, आये टापा दीन।।८४३।।
Kabir says, in this world, many people are devoid of understanding. They do not know the name of Ram, and their lives are full of suffering.
मोर तोर की जेवरी, गल बंधा संसार। दास कबीरा क्यों बंधौ, जाके नाम अधार।।८४६।।
The jewel of 'mine' and 'yours' binds the world. Why should I, the servant Kabir, be bound, when I rely on the name of Ram?
एक बुन्द के कारनै, रोता सब संसार। अनेक बुन्द खाली गये, तिनका नहीं विचार।।८४९।।
Because of a single drop, the whole world weeps. Many drops have gone by without a thought.
नान्हा कातौ चित्त दे, महंगे मोल बिकाय। गाहक राजा राम है, और न नियरे जाय।।८५५।।
A small bit given with devotion sells at a high price. The buyer is King Ram; nothing else can come close.
कबीर नाव तो झांझरि, भरी बिराने भार। खेवट सों परिच नहीं, क्यौंकर उतरै पार।।८५९।।
Kabir, the boat is leaky, and it's overloaded. Without knowing the boatman, how will you cross over?
कबीर केवल नाम कह, शुद्ध गरीबी चाल। कूर बड़ाई बूड़सी, भारी परसी झाल।।८६७।।
Kabir says, speak only the name of God and live a life of pure simplicity. False pride will drown you like a heavy stone in water.
कबीर वा दिन याद कर, पग ऊपर तल सीस। मृत मंडल में आयके, बिसरि गया जगदीस।।८७४।।
Kabir, remember that day when your head will be beneath your feet. When you enter the circle of death, you will have forgotten the Lord.
कबीर बेड़ा जरजरा, कूड़ा खेवन हार। हरुये हरुये तरि गये, बूड़े जिन सिर भार।।८७५।।
Kabir, the boat is fragile, and the boatman is weak. Those who have faith crossed safely, but those burdened with pride sank.
या मन गहि जो थिर रहै, गहरी धूनि गाड़ि। चलती बिरियां उठि चला, हस्ती घोड़ा छाड़ि।।८७९।।
If you can control the mind and stabilize it, it becomes deeply rooted. Otherwise, it will wander off, leaving behind even the strongest of things like elephants and horses.
मेरा संगी कोय नहिं, सबै स्वारथी लोय। मन परतीति न ऊपजै, जिय विस्वास न होय।।८८३।।
I have no true companions, everyone is selfish. Trust doesn't arise in my mind, and there is no belief in my heart.
जंगल ढेरी राख की, उपरि उपरि हरियाय। ते भी होती मानवी, करते रंग रलियाय।।८८५।।
A heap of ashes in the forest, green on top, Even this, when seen by humans, leads to merrymaking and pleasures.
राम नाम जाना नहीं, पाला सकल कुटूम्ब। धन्धाही में पचि मरा, बार भई नहिं बुम्ब।।८८७।।
You did not understand the name of Ram and took care of your entire family. You perished in worldly affairs and did not get a chance to utter his name even once.
बैल गढन्ता नर गढ़ा, चूका सींग रु पूंछ। एकहि गुरु के नाम बिनु, धिक दाढ़ी धिक मूंछ।।९०७।।
The bull may dig the ground, its horn and tail are misplaced. Without the name of the single guru, shame upon the beard and mustache.
कहत सुनत जग जात हैं, विषय न सुझै काल। कहैं कबीर सुन प्रानिया, साहिब नाम सम्हाल।।९१६।।
The world talks and listens, but the subject is not understood by time. Kabir says, listen, O soul, take care of the Lord's name.
ऊजल पहिनै कापड़ा, पान सुपारि खाय। कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिन, बांध जमपुर जाय।।९१७।।
Wearing clean clothes and eating betel leaves, Without devotion to the Guru, one is bound to the realm of death.
यह औसर चेत्या नहीं, पशु ज्यौं पाली देह। राम नाम जान्यो नहीं, अन्त पड़े मुख खेह।।९२३।।
This opportunity is not recognized, like animals maintaining the body. Not knowing the name of Ram, in the end, one faces suffering.
कुल खाये कुल उबरै, कुल राखै कुल जाय। राम निकुल कुल भोटिया, सब कुल गया बिलाय।।९२४।।
One's lineage eats and supports, and then lineage perishes. The name of Ram is the true lineage, all other lineages eventually fade away.
झूठा सब संसार है, कोउ न अपना मीत। राम नाम को जानि ले, चलै सो भौजल जीत।।९२६।।
The whole world is false, no one is a true friend. Knowing the name of Ram, one can cross the ocean of worldly existence.
आज कहै मैं काल भजुं, काल कहै फिर काल। आज काल के करत ही, औसर जासी चाल।।९३०।।
Today I say, worship Time; Time says to worship it later. Today’s actions of Time, keep delaying the opportunity.
भय से भक्ति करै सबै, भय से पूजा होय। भय पारस है जीव को, निरभय हाय न कोय।।९३५।।
Everyone worships out of fear, and worship happens through fear. Fear is the touchstone for life, there is no one who is fearless.
भय बिन भाव न ऊपजै, भय बिनु होय न प्रीति। जब हिरदे से भय गया, मिटी सकल रस रीति।।९३६।।
Without fear, emotions do not arise, without fear there is no love. When fear departs from the heart, all the essence and rituals vanish.
हरिजन तो हारा भला, जीतन दे संसार। हारा तो हरि सों मिला, जीता जम के द्वार।।९४३।।
The loss of a devotee is good, for they gain the divine. A loss is a gain with Hari, while a win is just a victory in the worldly domain.
अति हठ मत कर बावरे, हठ से बात न होय। ज्यूं ज्यूं भीजे कामरी, त्यूं त्यूं भारी होय।।९४८।।
Do not be excessively stubborn, for stubbornness does not help. As the cloth gets wet, it becomes heavier.
सत ही में सत बांटई, रोटी म ते टूक। कहैं कबीर ता दास को, कबहुं न आवै चूक।।९५१।।
In truth, truth is shared, like pieces of bread are divided. Says Kabir to the servant, never let there be any error.
नाम भजो मन बसि करो, यही बात है तंत। काहे को पढ़ि पचि मरो, कोटिन ज्ञान गिरंथ।।९५२।।
Chant the name and settle it in your mind; this is the essence of the matter. Why read and die pondering, when countless books of knowledge are there?
बन्दे तू कर बन्दगी, तब पावै दीदार। औसर मानुष जनम का, बहुरि न बारंबार।।९५५।।
Serve with devotion, and you will have the vision of the divine. This opportunity of human life does not come again and again.
मान अभिमान न कीजिये, कहैं कबीर पुकार। जो सिर साधु न नमैं, तो सिर काटि उतार।।९६२।।
Do not be proud, Kabir proclaims loudly. If the head does not bow to the saint, it should be cut off.
पढ़ी पढी के पत्थर भये, लिखि लिखि भये जु ईट। कबीर अन्तर प्रेम का, लागी नेक न छींट।।९६३।।
Reading and reading, they have turned into stones, writing and writing, they have become bricks. Kabir says, they have not even a drop of true love within.
काया सों कारज करें, सकल काज की रीत। कर्म भर्म सब मेट के, राम नाम सौं प्रीत।।९६७।।
Use your body for noble deeds, following the right path. Erase all illusions and attachments, and devote yourself to the love of God's name.
बहते को मत बहन दो, कर गहि एचहु ठौर। कह्यौ सुन्यो मानै नहीं, शब्द कहो दुइ और।।९६९।।
Do not let the flowing one keep flowing, hold them at this place. If they do not listen to your words, say them twice more.
कथा कीरतन करन की, जाके निसदिन रीत। कहैं कबीर ता दास सों, निश्च कीजै प्रीत।।९७२।।
One who engages daily in reciting and singing hymns, Kabir says, make love with such a devotee.
या दुनिया दो रोज की, मत कर यासो हेत। गुरु चरनन चित लाइये, जो पूरन सुख देत।।९७४।।
This world is temporary, do not develop deep attachment to it. Focus your mind on the Guru's feet, which bring complete happiness.
धर्म किये धन ना घट, नदी न घटै नीर। अपने आंखो देखि ले, यों कथि कहहिं कबीर।।९७८।।
Righteous deeds do not diminish wealth, just as the river's water does not decrease. See it with your own eyes, thus says Kabir.
जिन गुरु जैसा जानिया, तिनको तैसा लाभ। ओसे प्यास न भागसी, जब लगि धसै न आभ।।९८२।।
One who truly knows the Guru gains accordingly. Their thirst will not be quenched until they reach the Guru's true essence.
इष्ट मिले अरु मन मिले, मिले सकल रस रीति। कहैं कबीर तहं जाइये, यह सन्तन की प्रीति।।९८३।।
When you meet your chosen one and your mind aligns, all pleasures and rituals unite. Kabir says, go where such love among saints exists.
राम नाम सुमिरन करै, सतगुरु पद निज ध्यान। आतम पूजा जीव दया, लहै सो मुक्ति अमान।।९८५।।
Chant the name of Ram and meditate on the true Guru's feet. Worship the soul, show compassion to all beings, and attain liberation.
हाड़ बड़ा हरि भजन करि, द्रव्य बड़ा कछु देह। अकल बड़ी उपकार करि, जीवन का फल येहि।।९८८।।
Use your body to chant Hari's name, use wealth to give. Use your intellect to do good deeds; this is the fruit of life.
खोद खाद धरती सहै, काट कूट बनराय। कुटिल बचन साधु सहै, और से सहा न जाय।।९९३।।
The earth endures digging and cutting, the forest endures chopping. The saint endures harsh words, but they are unbearable for others.
सोई शब्द निज सार है, जो गुरु दिया बताय। बलिहारो वा गुरुन की, सीष बियोग न जाय।।१०००।।
The true essence lies in the words that the guru has imparted. I am devoted to that guru, for whose teachings I never feel separated.
सीखै सुनै विचार ले, ताहि शब्द सुख देय। बिना समझै शब्द गहै, कछु न लोहा लेय।।१००१।।
Learning, listening, and understanding bring joy from the words. But without understanding, mere repetition of words brings no gain.
शब्द पाय सुरति राखहि, सो पहुंच दरबार। कहैं कबीर तहां देखिये, बैठा पुरुष हमार।।१००८।।
One who keeps the word in mind reaches the divine court. Kabir says, there you will see our true master seated.
हरिजन सोई जानिये, जिह्वा कहैं न मार। आठ पहर चितवन रहै, गुरु का ज्ञान विचार।।१०१३।।
Know that person as a devotee of the Lord, who doesn't hurt anyone with their words. They remain immersed in the guru's teachings day and night.
शब्द दुराया ना दुरै, कहूं जु ढोल बजाय। जो जन होवै जौहरी, लेहैं सीस चढ़ाय।।१०१५।।
Words cannot be hidden, even if one beats a drum. A true connoisseur will always hold them in high regard.
कबीर सार शब्द निज जानि के, जिन कीन्ही परतीति। काग कुमत तजि हंस ह्वै, चले सु भौजल जीति।।१०२३।।
Kabir says, those who realize the essence of the word and have faith, leave the crow's mentality and become swans, crossing the ocean of life.
शब्द गुरु का शब्द है, काया का गुरु काय। भक्ति करै नित शब्द की, सत्गुरु यौं समुझाय।।१०२५।।
The word is the guru's word, and the body is the guru's body. One should constantly worship the word, as the true guru teaches.
शब्द उपदेस जु मैं कहुँ, जु कोय मानै संत। कहै कबीर विचारि के, ताहि मिलावौं कंत।।१०२६।।
The teaching of the word that I give, if any saint accepts it, says Kabir, after careful reflection, I will unite them with the Divine.
बोलै बोल विचारि के, बैठे ठौर संभारि। कहैं कबीर ता दास को, कबह न आवै हारि।।१०२७।।
Speak only after careful thought, and act with caution. Kabir says, such a servant of God never faces defeat.
जीवत मिरतक होय रहै, तजै खलक की आस। रच्छक समरथ सद्गुरु, मति दुख पावै दास।।१०३२।।
Living as though dead, renouncing worldly desires, and trusting the true Guru as protector, the servant never suffers.
भक्त मरे क्या रोइये, जो अपने घर जाय। रोइये साकट बापुरे, हाटों हाट बिकाय।।१०३४।।
Why weep when a devotee dies, for they return home. Weep for the unfortunate non-believer, who is sold in the marketplace of the world.
काल फिरै सिर ऊपरे, हाथों धरी कमान। कहैं कबीर गहु नाम को, छोड़ सकल अभिमान।।१०४९।।
Death hovers over your head with a bow in hand. Kabir says, hold onto the name (of God) and abandon all pride.
निश्चय काल गरास हो, बहुत कहा समझाय। कह कबीर मैं का कहूं, देखत ना पतियाय।।१०७२।।
Certainly, time devours everything, though much is said and explained. Kabir says, what can I say, seeing none believe.
काल हमारे संग है, कस जीवन की आस। दस दिन नाम संभार ले, जब लग पिंजर सांस।।१०८०।।
Time is with us, clinging to the hope of life. Ten days of maintaining the name, until the last breath of the cage.
कबीर सब सुख राम है, औरहि दुख की रासि। सुर नर मुनि अरु असुर सुर, पड़े काल की फांसि।।१०८४।।
Kabir says all happiness is in Ram, and suffering is a heap. Gods, men, sages, and demons all fall into the snare of time.
माया कू माया मिले, कर कर लम्बे हाथ। निस्प्रेही निरधार को, गाहक दीनानाथ।।१०९१।।
Illusion meets illusion, hands reaching out long. The unattached and non-dependent remain as the cherished customer of the Lord.
निज स्वारथ के कारनै, सेव करै संसार। बिन स्वारथ भक्ति करै, सो भावे करतार।।१०९३।।
One serves the world due to personal interest. One who serves with devotion without self-interest is loved by the Creator.
आप स्वारथी मेदिनी, भक्ति स्वारथी दास। कबीर जन परमार्थी, डारी तन की आस।।१०९४।।
You are self-interested earth, devotion is self-interested servant. Kabir's followers are selfless, abandoning attachment to the body.
सुख के संगी स्वारथी, दुख मे रहते दूर। कहैं कबीर परमारथी, दुख सुख सदा हजूर।।१०९७।।
The one who is selfish stays away in times of sorrow, while the selfless one remains present in both joy and sorrow.
स्वारथ सूका लाकड़ा, छांह बिहूना सूल। पीपल परमारथ भजो, सुख सागर को मूल।।१०९९।।
Self-interest is like a dry stick, without shade or comfort. Worship the Peepal tree of selflessness, which is the source of the ocean of happiness.
मरुं पर मांगू नहीं, अपने तन के काज। परमारथ के कारनै, मोहि न आवै लाज।।११००।।
I do not beg for anything in the desert of life or for personal needs. For the sake of selflessness, I feel no shame.
धन रहै न जोबन रहै, रहै न गांव न ठांव। कबीर जग में जस रहै, करिदे किसी का काम।।११०१।।
Wealth and youth do not last, nor do villages or places. Kabir says that reputation in the world remains only by serving others.
कबीर यह मन मसखरा, कहूं तो मानै रोस। जा मारग साहिब मिलै, तहां न चालै कोस।।११०२।।
Kabir says that this mind is a jester, and it becomes angry if scolded. On the path where the Master is found, it does not measure distance.
कबीर मन परबत भया, अब मैं पाया जान। टांकी लागी प्रेम की, निकसी कंचन खान।।११०८।।
Kabir says that the mind has become like a mountain, and I have realized this. The reservoir of love has yielded a treasure of gold.
बिना सीस का मिरग है, चहं दिस चरने जाय। बांधि लाओ गुरुज्ञान सूं, राखो तत्व लगाय।।१११०।।
The deer without its antlers roams in all directions. Bind it with the knowledge of the Guru and keep it focused.
कबीर मन तो एक है, भावै जहां लगाय। भावै गुरु की भक्ति कर, भावे विषय कमाय।।१११२।।
Kabir says the mind is one; it follows where it is inclined. If it inclines towards devotion to the Guru, it will also incline towards worldly pursuits.
चंचल मन निहचल करै, फिरि फिरि नाम लगाय। तन मन दोउ बसि करै, ताका कछु नहिं जाय।।१११५।।
When the restless mind becomes still and repeats the name of the Lord, both body and mind are controlled, and nothing is lost.
मेरा मन मकरन्द था, करता बहुत बिगार। सूधा होय मारग चला, हरि आगे हम लार।।१११६।।
My mind was like honey, causing much disturbance. When it became pure, I found the path, and I seek refuge at the feet of the Lord.
कबीर यह मन लालची, समझै नहीं गंवार। भजन करन को आलसी, खाने को तैयार।।१११८।।
Kabir describes the mind as greedy and ignorant. It is lazy in devotion but always ready for indulgence.
कबीर मन मरकट भया, नेक न कहुं ठहराय। राम नाम बांधै बिना, जित भावै तित जाय।।११३०।।
Kabir says the mind is like a monkey, and it does not settle down in goodness. Without holding onto the name of Ram, it goes wherever it desires.
यह मन हरि चरणे चला, माया-मोह से छूट। बेहद माहीं घर किया, काल रहा शिर कूट।।११३५।।
This mind has turned towards the Lord's feet, freed from illusion and attachment. It has settled in the infinite, while time remains bound to the head.
कबीर लहरि समुद्र की, केतो आवै जांहि। बलिहारी वा दास की, उलटि समावै मांहि।।११३९।।
Kabir says that the waves of the ocean come and go. I am devoted to the servant who turns them back into the ocean.
निहचिन्त होय के गुरु भजै, मन में राखै सांच। इन पांचौं को बसि करै, ताहि न आवै आंच।।११४९।।
When one worships the guru with a carefree heart and keeps the truth in the mind, controlling the five senses becomes possible, and there is no burning.
चिन्ता चित्त बिसारिये, फिर बूझिये नहिं आन। इन्द्री पसारा मेटिये, सजह मिलै भगवान।।११५२।।
Forget the worries of the mind, and then do not seek elsewhere. Remove the distractions of the senses, and you will naturally find God.
मन नहिं मारा करि सका, न मन पांच प्रहारि। सील सांच सरधा नहीं, अजह् इन्द्रि उघारि।।११५७।।
The mind cannot be killed by force, nor can it be conquered by five attacks. Without virtue, truth, and faith, the senses remain uncovered.
माया सम नहिं मोहिनी, मन समान नहिं चोर। हरिजन सम नहिं पारखी, कोई न दीसे ओर।।११६९।।
There is no enchantress like illusion, and no thief like the mind. There is no connoisseur like a saint, and none can be seen elsewhere.
माया जगवे कौन गन, अंत न आवै काज। सोई नाम जोगावहु, भये परमारथ साज।।११७०।।
What is the benefit of illusion in the world? It never ends. Only the name of the divine is worthy; it leads to ultimate welfare.
आंधी आई प्रेम की, ढही भरम की भीत। माया टाटी उड़ि गई, लगी नाम सों प्रीत।।११७३।।
A storm of love has arrived, breaking the walls of delusion. The illusion has flown away like a torn cloth, and love for the divine has begun.
ऊंची डाली प्रेम की, हरिजन बैठा खाय। नीचे बैठी बाघिनी, गिर पड़े तिहि खाय।।११७९।।
The high branch of love supports the saints, while the low sitting tigress may fall and eat them.
माया छाया एक सी, बिरला जानै कोय। भगता के पीछे फिरै, सनमुख भाजै सोय।।११८७।।
Illusion is like a shadow, and only a few understand it. It follows the devotee and flees from those who face it directly.
माया संख पदुम लौं, भक्ति बिहुन जो होय। जम लै ग्रासैं सो तेहि, नरक पड़े पुनि सोय।।११९७।।
Illusion is like a lotus flower, which lacks devotion. Those who are caught in its grasp end up in hell again and again.
जग हटवारा स्वाद ठग, माया वेश्या लाय। राम-राम गाढ़ा गहो, जनि जहु जनम गंवाय।।१२०२।।
The world is a deceitful pleasure, and illusion is a courtesan. Hold onto the name of Ram firmly, and do not waste your life in vain.
जिनको सांई रंग दिया, कबहुं न होय कुरंग। दिन-दिन बानी आगरी, चढ़ै सवाया रंग।।१२०४।।
Those who are dyed in the color of the Lord never become impure. Day by day, their speech becomes purer, and they grow in divine hue.
मैं जानूं हरिसूं मिलूं, मो मन मोटी आस। हरि बिच डारै अन्तरा, माया बड़ी पिचास।।१२०५।।
I know I will meet the Lord, but my mind has a deep desire. The Lord is in my heart, but illusion is a great deceiver.
अपना तो कोई नहिं, हम काहू के नांहि। पार पहूंची नाव जब, मिलि सब बिछुड़े जांहि।।१२१३।।
There is no true ownership; we belong to no one. When the boat reaches the other shore, all those who were separated are reunited.
काहु जुगति ना जानिया, किहि बिधि बचै सुखेत। नहिं बंदगी नहिं दीनता, नहिं साधु संग होत।।१२१६।।
Without knowing the right method, how can one attain happiness? There is neither devotion, nor humility, nor association with saints.
कुरुक्षेत्र सब मेदिनी, खेती करै किसान। मोह मिरग सब चरि गया, आसन रहि खलियान।।१२१९।।
Kurukshetra is a fertile land where farmers cultivate. The deer of illusion roam around, while the fields remain barren.
कामी क्रोधी लालची, इनते भक्ति न होय। भक्ति करै कोय सूरमा, जाति बरन कुल खोय।।१२२१।।
Desire, anger, and greed cannot lead to true devotion. Only a true hero who has abandoned caste, class, and family can practice true devotion.
काम कहर असवार है, सबकों मारै धाय। कोई एक हरिजन ऊबरा, जाके नाम सहाय।।१२२९।।
Desire is a devastating calamity, it destroys everyone. Only a few saints, whose names are remembered, escape its effect.
भग भोगै भग ऊपजे, भगते बचै न कोय। कहैं कबीर भगते बचै, भक्त कहावै सोय।।१२३०।।
Enjoyment and desire both arise from fate, but no one is saved by mere devotion. Kabir says, only those who are truly devoted can escape.
भक्ति बिगाड़ी कामिया, इन्द्रिन केरे स्वाद। हीरा खोया हाथ सों, जनम गंवाय बाद।।१२३५।।
Desire spoils devotion and indulges the senses. One who loses a gem from his hand wastes his life in the process.
कामी का गुरु कामिनी, लोभी का गुरु दाम। कबीर का गुरु सन्त है, संतन का गुरु राम।।१२३६।।
The guru of the desirous is desire itself, the guru of the greedy is wealth. Kabir’s guru is the saint, and the guru of saints is Ram.
क्रोध अगनि घर घर बढ़ी, जलै सकल संसार। दीन लीन निज भक्त जो, तिनके निकट उबार।।१२३९।।
Anger is a fire that grows in every house, burning the entire world. Those who are devoted and humble find refuge close to them.
आपा सबही जात है, किया कराया सोय। आपा तजि हरि को भजै, लाखन मध्ये होय।।१२५३।।
Ego is the root of all differences; what one does is determined by ego. If one renounces ego and worships the Lord, they become a true devotee.
प्रभुता को सब कोई भजै, प्रभु को भजै न कोय। कहैं कबीर प्रभु को भजै, प्रभुता चेरी होय।।१२५४।।
Everyone worships power, but no one worships the Lord. Kabir says, to worship the Lord is to become a servant of divine power.
मान बड़ाई ऊरमी, ये जग का व्यवहार। दीन गरीबी बन्दगी, सतगुरु का उपकार।।१२६३।।
Pride and greatness are the norms of this world. True benefit comes from humility, poverty, and devotion, as guided by the True Guru.
मान बड़ाई देखि कर, भक्ति करै संसार। जब देखै कछु हीनता, अवगुन धरै गंवार।।१२६४।।
Seeing pride and greatness, the world engages in devotion. When they see any inferiority, they blame others as ignorant.
मान तजा तो क्या भया, मन का मता न जाय। संत बचन मानै नहीं, ताको हरि न सुहाय।।१२७६।।
What is gained by renouncing pride if the mind is not controlled? One who does not heed the words of the saints is not favored by the Divine.
लेने को हरिनाम है, देने को अंनदान। तरने को है दीनता, बूड़न को अभिमान।।१२७९।।
To receive is the name of God, to give is charity. To be saved requires humility, while pride leads to downfall.
अड़सठ तीरथ निन्दक न्हाई, देह पलोसे मैल न जाई। छप्पन कोटि धरती फिरि आवै, तो भी निन्दक नरकहिं जावे।।१२८३।।
Even if a critic bathes at sixty-eight pilgrimage sites, the dirt of the body will not be removed. Even if they roam over millions of lands, they will still go to hell.
कबीर निन्दक मरि गया, अब क्या कहिये जाय। ऐसा कोई नाम मिला, बीड़ा लेय उठाय।।१२९२।।
Kabir says, the critic is dead, what more can be said? Such a name is found that lifts the burden from one’s shoulders.
निन्दक तो है नाक बिन, सोहै नकटो माहिं। साधु जन गुरु भक्त जो, तिनमें सोहै नाहिं।।१२९५।।
A critic is like a leech without a nose; they are found in dirty places. They do not belong among saints, gurus, or devotees.
जौ तू सेवक गुरुन का, निन्दा की जब बान। निन्दक नेरे आय जब, कर आदर सनमान।।१२९७।।
If you are a servant of the guru and you are hit by the arrow of criticism, when the critic approaches, show respect and honor.
लोग विचारा नींदइ, जिन्ह न पाया ग्यांन। राम नांव राता रहै, तिनहु न भावै आंन।।१३००।।
People who are asleep in ignorance, even if they chant the name of Ram, will not find joy in it.
अब कै जे सांई मिले, तौ सब दुख आपौं रोइ। चरनूं ऊपर सीस धरि, कहूं ज कहणां होइ।।१३०१।।
If you have found the Lord, then all your sorrows will be alleviated. Place your head at His feet and speak only what needs to be said.
पद जौरै साखी कहै, साधन पड़ि गयी रोस। काढ़ा जल पीवै नहीं, काढ़ि पीवन की होस।।१३०४।।
The position and the story say that the practice has become difficult. One does not drink the water drawn out; how can one drink that which is drawn out?
कथनी थोथी जगत में, करनी उत्तम सार। कहैं कबीर करनी भली, उतरै भोजन पार।।१३०५।।
Words are hollow in this world; action is the essence. Kabir says that good deeds are like nourishing food.
कथनी मीठी खांड सी, करनी विष की लोय। कथनी से करनी करै, विष से अमृत होय।।१३०६।।
Words are as sweet as sugar, but actions are like poison. When actions are taken based on words, the poison turns into nectar.
कथनी बदनी छाड़ि दे, करनी सों चित लाय। कर सो जल प्याये बिना, कबहुं प्यास न जाय।।१३०९।।
Give up hollow words, and focus on actions. Without drinking water, thirst cannot be quenched.
कथनी कथि फूला फिरै, मेरे होयै उचार। भाव भक्ति समझै नहीं, अंधा मूढ़ गंवार।।१३१३।।
Words may appear flowery, but without understanding true devotion and feeling, they are of no use. Such ignorant fools do not comprehend the essence.
चतुराई चुल्है पड़े, ज्ञान कथै हुलसाय। भाव भक्ति जानै बिना, ज्ञानपनो चलि जाय।।१३१५।।
Cunning is like a burnt stove; knowledge seems to be lost. Without understanding true devotion and feeling, knowledge becomes meaningless.
कबीर करनी आपनी, कबहुं न निष्फल जाय। सात समुद्र आड़ा पड़े, मिलै अगाऊ आय।।१३१७।।
Kabir says, one's own actions never go in vain. Even if seven oceans come in the way, the reward will come eventually.
रहनी के मैदान में, कथनी आवै जाय। कथनी पीसै पीसना, रहनी अमल कमाय।।१३२१।।
In the field of living, words come and go. Words are like grinding, while living involves practical action.
जैसी करनी जासु की, तैसी भुगते सोय। बिन सतगुरु की भक्ति के, जनम जनम दुख होय।।१३२३।।
One experiences the results according to their own actions. Without devotion to the true guru, one suffers throughout lifetimes.
श्रम ही ते सब होत है, जो मन राखे धीर। श्रम ते खोदत कूप ज्यों, थल में प्रगटै नीर।।१३३०।।
Everything is achieved through effort when one remains patient. Just as digging a well brings out water, persistent labor reveals results.
काला मुंह करुं करम का, आदर लावूं आग। लोभ बड़ाई छांड़ि के, रांचू गुरु के राग।।१३३३।।
Actions done with a dark intent bring respect, but only when the desire for praise is abandoned and one embraces the guru's guidance.
कबीर कमाई आपनी, कबहु न निष्फल जाय। सात समुद्र आड़ा पड़े, मिलै अगाड़ी आय।।१३३८।।
Kabir's own efforts are never in vain. Even if seven seas stand in the way, they will be crossed.
परारब्ध पहिले बना, पीछे बना सरीर। कबीर अचम्भा है यही, मन नहिं बांधे धीर।।१३३९।।
Destiny is formed first, and then the body is created. Kabir finds it astonishing that the mind does not remain steadfast.
रे मन भाग्यहि भूल मत, जो आया मन भाग। सो तेरा टलता नहीं, निश्चय संसै त्याग।।१३४०।।
O mind, do not forget destiny; what has come to you will not change. Renounce doubts and accept what is.
लिखा मिटै नहीं करम का, गुरु कर भज हरिनाम। सीधे मारग नित चलै, दया धर्म बिसराम।।१३४१।।
Actions are not erased by writing; worship the divine name with devotion. Always walk on the straight path, and let compassion and righteousness guide you.
सिदक सबरी बाहिरा, कहा हज्ज को जाय। जिनका दिल साबित नहीं, तिनको कहा खुदाय।।१३५५।।
The outward rituals of Sabari are irrelevant; what use is going on pilgrimage? For those whose hearts are not true, how can they be divine?
कबीर सालिगराम का, मोहिं भरोसा नाहिं। काल कहर की चोट में, बिनसि जाय छिन माहिं।।१३५६।।
Kabir says he doesn't trust the idol of Shaligram, as it can be destroyed in an instant by the stroke of time.
पूजा सेवा नेम व्रत, गुड़ियन का सा खेल। जब लग पिव परसै नहीं, तब लग संसै मेल।।१३५७।।
Worship, rituals, and fasts are like the play of dolls, until you experience the touch of the Beloved, doubt remains.
पाहन पूजै हरि मिलै, तो मैं पूजूं पहार। ताते तो चक्की भली, पीसि खाय संसार।।१३५८।।
If God could be found by worshipping a stone, then I'd worship a mountain. Better to use a millstone and feed the world.
पाहन ही का देहरा, पाहन ही का देव। पूजन हारा आंधरा, क्यों करि मानै सेव।।१३५९।।
The temple is made of stone, and the deity is also stone. The blind worshiper, how can he be truly devoted?
कबीर जेता आतमा, तेता सालिगराम। बोलनहारा पूजिये, नहिं पाहन सो काम।।१३६१।।
Kabir says that every soul is a Shaligram. Worship those who speak wisdom, not the stones.
मुल्ला चढ़ि किलकारिया, अल्लाह न बहिरा होय। जेहि कारन तूं बांग दे, दिल ही अन्दर सोय।।१३६७।।
The mullah shouts from the minaret, but Allah is not deaf. The one you call out to is within your own heart.
कांकर पाथर जोरि के, मसजिद लई चुनाय। ता चढ़ि मुल्ला बांग दे, बहिरा हुआ खुदाय।।१३७०।।
They built a mosque by piling up bricks and stones, and the mullah calls out from it as if God has become deaf.
पाहन को क्या पूजिये, जो नहिं देय जवाब। अंधा नर आशा मुखी, यों ही खोवै आब।।१३७६।।
Why worship a stone that cannot answer? The blind man, driven by hope, loses his essence in vain.
तेरे हिय में राम हैं, ताहि न देखा जाय। ताको तो तब देखिये, दिल की दुविधा जाय।।१३७७।।
Ram resides in your heart, but you cannot see him. You will see him only when the doubts in your heart disappear.
मन मक्का दिल द्वारिका, काया काशी जान। दश द्वारे का देहरा, तामें ज्योति पिछान।।१३८६।।
Consider the mind as Mecca, the heart as Dwarka, and the body as Kashi. Recognize the light within the temple of ten doors (the body).
भावै जाओ बादरी, भावै जावहु गया। कहैं कबीर सुनो भई साधो, सब ते बड़ी दया।।१३९४।।
Whether you go to Badrinath or Gaya, Kabir says, listen, O seekers, compassion is greater than all.
दया का लच्छन भक्ति है, भक्ति से होवै ध्यान। ध्यान से मिलता ज्ञान है, यह सिद्धान्त उरान।।१३९६।।
Compassion leads to devotion, devotion leads to meditation. Meditation brings knowledge, this is the ultimate principle.
दीन गरीबी बंदगी, साधुन सो आधीन। ताके संग मैं यौं रहूं, ज्यौं पानी संग मीन।।१३९८।।
Humility and service are the true devotion, and the humble are dependent on the saints. I wish to stay with them just as a fish stays in water.
नीचे नीचे सब तिरै, संत चरण लौ लीन। जातिहि के अभिमान ते, बूड़े सकल कुलीन।।१४०३।।
Those who remain humble and devoted to the feet of saints, sail through life. But those who are proud of their caste drown despite their high status.
इक बानी सो दीनता, सब कछु गुरु दरबार। यही भेंट गुरु देव की, संतन कियो विचार।।१४०४।।
One word of humility is everything in the Guru's court. This is the true offering to the Guru, as realized by the saints.
मिसरी बिखरी रेत में, हस्ती चुनी न जाय। कीड़ी ह्वै करि सब चुनै, तब साहिब कूं पाय।।१४०७।।
Just as it is impossible to find sugar scattered in the sand, one must become a worm to search thoroughly and find the Lord.
दीन गरीबी बंदगी, सबसो आदर भाव। कहैं कबीर सोई बड़ा, जामे बड़ा सुभाव।।१४०८।।
Humility, poverty, and service are the highest virtues. Kabir says that the one who embodies these traits is truly great.
आपा मेटै पिव मिलै, पिव में रहा समाय। अकथ कहानी प्रेम की, कहै तो को पतियाय।।१४०९।।
When the ego is removed, one finds the beloved, and remains immersed in the beloved. The story of love is ineffable; only the one who experiences it can understand.
कंचन केवल हरि भजन, दूजा कांच कथीर। झूठा आल जंजाल तजि, पकड़ा सांच कबीर।।१४१०।।
Gold is only useful for singing praises of the Lord, everything else is mere glass. Let go of falsehood and complications; hold on to the truth.
सांच हुआ तो क्या हुआ, नाम न सांचा जान। सांचा होय सांचा मिलै, सांचै मांहि समान।।१४१७।।
What if one is truthful? If the name is not truly understood, the genuine truth cannot be recognized. The truth must be found within the truth itself.
सांचे को सांचा मिलै, अधिक बढ़ै सनेह। झूठे को सांचा मिलै, तड़ दे टूटे नेह।।१४२१।।
The truth found in truth increases love; the truth found in falsehood causes love to break.
सांच बराबर तप नहीं, झूठ बराबर पाप। जाके हिरदे सांच है, ताके हिरदे आप।।१४२३।।
There is no penance equal to truth, and falsehood is equivalent to sin. The one whose heart is true, their heart itself is the truth.
सीक भई संसार थैं, चले जु सांई पास। अविनासी मोहि ले चल्या, पुरई मेरी आस।।१४२५।।
The world is just a lesson, and I have moved on to my Lord's presence. The eternal one has taken me, fulfilling my hope.
गोब्यंदक के गुंण बहुत ह, लिखे जु हिरदै मांहि। डरता पाणी ना पिऊं, मति वै धोंये जांहि।।१४३०।।
The virtues of the Lord are many, written in the heart. The water is not to be feared or avoided; the understanding remains pure.
भौ समंद विष जल भरया, मन नहीं बांधै धीर। सबल सनेही हरि मिले, तब उतरे पारि कबीर।।१४३२।।
The ocean is filled with poisonous water, but the mind cannot be contained. When the strong and loving Lord is found, then Kabir crosses over.
भला सहेला ऊतरया, पूरा मेरा भाग। राम नांव नौंका गह्या, तब पांणी पंक न लाग।।१४३३।।
The boat has safely crossed, and my fortune is complete. Holding the name of Ram as the boat, I have crossed the muddy waters.
कबीर केसौ की दया, संसा घाल्या खोहि। जे दिन गए भगति बिन, ते दिन साले मोहि।।१४३४।।
Kabir’s kindness is such that doubts are erased. The days spent without devotion are those days of sorrow.
कबीर साथी सो किया, जाके सुख दुख नहीं कोइ। हिलि मिलि ह्वै करि खेलिस्यूं, कदे बिछोह न होइ।।१४३६।।
Kabir says that the true companion is one with whom there is no sorrow or joy. Together in unity, playing and merging, there is never any separation.
आदि मधि अरु अंत लौ, अबिहड़ सदा अभंग। कबीर उस करता की, सेवग तजै न संग।।१४३८।।
In the beginning, middle, and end, the Creator is ever unchanging and eternal. Kabir says, one should not abandon the service of such a consistent Creator.
अर्व खर्व लौ द्रव्य हैं, उदे अस्त लौं राज। भक्ति महातम न तुले, ई सब कौने काज।।१४४२।।
The riches and wealth of the world are fleeting, they rise and set like a kingdom. The greatness of devotion cannot be compared to these; what purpose do they serve?
असून्य तखत आसन अडिग, पिंड झरोखे नूर। जाके दिल में हौ बसे, सेना लिये हुजूर।।१४४३।।
The empty throne is steadfast, with the body as the window of light. He who resides in the heart is accompanied by an army of honor.
अहिरह तजी खसमहुँ तजी, बिना दांद का ढोर। मुक्ति पड़ी बिललात है, वृ़दावन की खोर।।१४४४।।
The cowherd abandons the master and the cow, without the support of teeth. Liberation is found in the wilderness of Vrindavan.
आपा तजे हरि भजे, नखसिख तजे विकार। सब जीवन से निबरहे, साधुमता है सार।।१४५२।।
One who renounces their ego and worships Hari, discards all impurities. Such a person lives a life free from all faults; this is the essence of saintliness.
एक साधे सब साधिया, सब साधे सब जाय। ज्यों जल सींचे मूल को, फूले फले अघाय।।१४६७।।
By mastering one, all is mastered; by trying to master all, everything is lost. Like watering the root of a plant, it flowers and fruits abundantly.
कर बंदगी विवेक की, भेष धरे सब कोय। सो बन्दगी बहि जान दे, जहां शब्द विवेक न होय।।१४७३।।
Worship with wisdom, for everyone can wear a disguise. True devotion fades away where there is no wisdom in words.
काला सर्प शरीर में , खाई सब जग झारि। बिरला ते जन बांचिहें, जो रामहिं भजे विचारि।।१४८१।।
A black serpent resides within the body, consuming everything in the world. Only a few rare souls will survive, who meditate on Lord Ram.
कृष्ण समीपी पांडवा, गले हिमालय जाय। लोहा को पारस मिले, तो काहे काई खाय।।१४८५।।
Even though the Pandavas were close to Krishna, they still went to the Himalayas. When iron meets the philosopher's stone, why would it eat rust?
गही टेग नहिं छोड़ई, चोंच जीभ जरि जाय। ऐसे तप्त अंगार है, ताहि चकोर चबाय।।१४८९।।
The bird does not let go of the iron, even if its beak and tongue burn. Just like that, the partridge eats burning embers.
ग्राम ऊंचे पहाड़ पर, औ मोटे की बांह। कबीर ऐसा ठाकुर सेइये, उबरिये जाकी छांह।।१४९८।।
The village on the high mountain and the powerful arms of the strong—Kabir says, serve such a Lord whose protection will save you.
घाट भुलाना बाट बिनु, वेष भुलानी कानि। जाकि मांडी जगत महं, सो न परा पहिचानि।।१४९९।।
Lost is the path to the riverbank without direction, and one forgets their attire in confusion. Despite living in the world, one cannot recognize the divine.
चंदन सर्प लपेटिया, चंदन काह कराया। राम-राम विष भीनिया, अमृत कहां समाय।।१५०२।।
The sandalwood tree is entwined by a snake, rendering its fragrance useless. Even the name of Ram is tainted with poison, how can nectar remain?
चकोर भरोसे चंद के, निगले पप्तांगार। कहहिं कबीर दाधे नहीं, ऐसी वस्तु लगार।।१५०३।।
The chakora bird, trusting the moon, swallows burning embers. Kabir says, do not be misled by such false things.
जहिया जन्म मुक्ता हता, तहिया हता न कोय। छठी तुम्हारी हौं जगा, तू कह चला वियोग।।१५१७।।
When you were born free, there was no separation. On your sixth day, I awakened, but now you speak of separation.
जाके मुनिवर तप करे, वेद थके गुण गाय। सोई देव सिखापनो, कोई नहीं पतियाय।।१५२०।।
The sages have performed penances, and the Vedas have sung their praises. But even the teachings of the gods are doubted; no one believes.
जीव घात नहि कीजिए, बहुरि लेत वै कान। तीरथ गए न बांचिहु, कोटि हीरा देहु दान।।१५२९।।
Do not harm any living being, for karma will repay. Pilgrimages won't save you, even if you donate millions of diamonds.
जेहि मारग गए पंडिता, ताते ही गई बहीर। ऊंची घाटी राम की, तेहि चढ़ि गया कबीर।।१५३३।।
The path taken by the scholars leads to the same place. Kabir ascended the high path of Ram.
जो जन झीने राम रस, विकसित कबहूं न रूख। अनुभव भाव न दरसये, ते नर दु:ख न सुख।।१५४१।।
Those who have tasted the essence of Ram, will never turn away from it. They neither show their feelings nor experience happiness or sorrow.
ज्यों मुदराद समशान ज्यों, शील सबरूप समान। कहहिं कबीर सावन गती, तबकी देखि झुकाहि।।१५४८।।
Just as the cremation ground is uniform, so is the essence of character. Kabir says, this path (the way of devotion) is to be observed and bowed down to.
भूला सो भूला, बहुरि के चेतना। विस्मय को छुरी से, संशय को रेतना।।१५५१।।
The one who forgets is forgotten, and again comes to consciousness. With the knife of wonder, the sand of doubt is cut away.
तीरथ गए ते बहि मुए, जूड़े पाणि नहाय। कहहिं कबीर पुकारि के, राक्षस होय पछताय।।१५६१।।
Those who go to pilgrimage die outside, they do not bathe in the holy water. Kabir says, those who lament are demons.
तीरथ गए तीन तीन जना, चित चंचल मन चोर। एको पाप न काटिया, लादिन मन दस और।।१५६२।।
Three people went on pilgrimage, with restless and thieving minds. They did not cut a single sin, but carried ten more in their minds.
द्वारे तेरे रामजी, मिलहुँ कबीरा मोहिं। तैं तो सब में मिलि रहा, मैं न मिलुंगा तोहि।।१५६९।।
At your door, O Ram, Kabir wishes to meet you. Though you are present everywhere, if I do not meet you, where will I find you?
धरती जानति आप गुण, कधी न होती डोल। तिल तिल गुरुवी होती, रहित ठीकहु के मोल।।१५७०।।
The earth knows its own quality and never shakes. Each grain of sesame is valuable, even without its worth.
नित खरसान, लोह घुन छुटे। नित की गोष्टि, माया मोह टूटे।।१५७३।।
Daily, the iron rusts away. Daily gatherings break the attachment and illusion.
नयन न आगे मन बसे, पलक पलक करे दौर। तीनि लोक मन भूप है, मन पूजा सब ठौर।।१५७४।।
The eyes do not see ahead, but the mind remains restless. The three worlds are within the mind, and worship resides in every place.
पक्षापक्षी के कारण, सब जग गया भुलान। निरपक्ष होय के हरि भजे, सोई सन्त सुजान।।१५८४।।
Due to the conflicts between factions, the whole world is confused. The wise are those who worship Hari with impartiality.
प्रेम पाट का चोलना, पहरि कबीरा नाच। पानप दीन्हों ताहि को, जो तन मन बोले सांच।।१६०२।।
Wearing the garment of love, Kabir dances. He drinks the nectar of truth, which speaks through body and mind.
बलिहारी तेहि दूध की, जामे निकला घीव। आधी साखी कबीर की, चारि वेद का जीव।।१६०६।।
I am devoted to that milk from which ghee is extracted. Half of Kabir’s wisdom is the essence of the four Vedas.
भक्ति पियारी राम की, जैसी प्यारी आगि। सारा पट्टन जरि गया, फिर फिर ल्यावे मागि।।१६२५।।
Devotion to Lord Rama is like a precious fire. The entire town burns down, and one keeps asking for it again and again.
कबिरन भक्ति बिगारीयां, कंकर पत्थर धोय। अंदर में विष राखि के, अमृत डारिन खोय।।१६२६।।
Kabir says that devotion is tainted, washing pebbles and stones. Inside, poison is kept while nectar is lost.
मन मसलन्द गयन्द है, मनसा भो संचार। सांच मन्त्र माने नहीं, उड़ि उड़ि लागि खान।।१६३३।।
The mind is like a wandering vessel, and the thoughts are like transmissions. The true mantra is not understood, it keeps flying away.
मानुष बिचारा क्या करे, जाके शून्य शरीर। जो जिव झाखि न ऊपजे, तो काहे पुकार कबीर।।१६५०।।
What can a poor human do, whose body is empty? If the soul does not arise from within, why then call Kabir?
मलयागिरि के बास महं, बेधो ढ़ाक पलास। वेणा कबहन बेधिया, जुगजुग रहते पास।।१६५७।।
In the residence of Malaya Mountain, there are trees like Dhak and Palash. The Veena (a musical instrument) has always resided there, enduring through ages.
हौं तो सब ही की कही, मेरी कहे न कोय। मेरी कहे सो जना, जो मुझ ही सा होय।।१६५८।।
I speak for everyone, but no one speaks for me. Only those who are like me, can understand what I say.
ये कबीर ते उतरिह रहु, तेरो संमल परोहन साथ। शंबल घटे न पगु थका, जीव विराने हाथ।।१६५९।।
Kabir will remain detached from you, with your companion and support. The pilgrimage will not tire the feet, but the soul's thirst will be quenched.
राम वियोगी विकल तन, इन दुखवै मति कोय। छूबत ही मरि जाहिंगे, तालाबेली होय।।१६६६।।
The body of one separated from Ram is restless, no one understands this sorrow. When touched, they die, like a dry leaf in a pond.
लाई लावनहार की, जाकी लाई पर जरे। बलिहारी लावनहार की, छप्पर वाचे घर जरे।।१६६८।।
One who brings spices burns the house where the spice is used. How great is the one who brings the spice, even if the roof of the house is burned.
विरहिनि साजी आरती, दर्शन दीजे राम। मूये दर्शन देहुगे, आवत कवने काम।।१६७३।।
The woman in separation performs the ritual, asking for the sight of Ram. Once she is dead, what is the use of the sight?
सद्गुरु वचन सुनहु सन्तो, मति लिन्हा शिर भार। हौं हजूर ठाड़ कहते हौं, तैं क्यों संभार।।१६८५।।
Listen to the words of the true Guru, take them to heart. If you stand firm and follow them, why worry?
सावन केरा सेहरा, बूंद परे असमान। सारी दुनिया वैष्णव भया, गुरु नहिं लागा कान।।१६९७।।
In the monsoon's desert, even a drop is beyond the sky. The entire world has become Vaishnav, but no one listens to the Guru.
हाड़ जरत जैसे लाकरी, केस जरे जैसे घास। कबीरा जरे रामरस, कोठी जरे कपास।।१७१४।।
Just as wood burns and hair burns like grass, Kabir says, the essence of Ram burns, and the mansion burns like cotton.
हाथ कटोरा खोवा भरा, मग जोवत दिन जाय। कबिरा उता चित्त सों, छांछ दियो नहिं जाय।।१७१५।।
With a bowl and a pot full of offerings, the day passes by. Kabir says, even with a full mind, buttermilk does not come.
ऊंचा कुल के कारणै, बंस बध्या अधिकार। चंदन बास भेदै नहीं, जाल्या सब परिवार।।१७३०।।
Due to high lineage, the family holds power. The sandalwood's fragrance does not fade, even if the whole family is burnt.
रात्यूं रूंनी बिरहनीं, ज्यूं बंची कूं कुंज। कबीर अंतर प्रजल्या, प्रगट्या बिरहा पुंज।।१७३६।।
The night is spent in separation, like a deer in a thicket. Kabir says, within the soul is a burning flame, and separation manifests as a bundle of pain.
अंबर कुंजा करलियां, गरजि भर सब ताल। जिनि थैं गोबिंद बीछुटे, तिनके कौण हवाल।।१७३७।।
The sky roars with thunder, filling all the valleys. For those separated from Govind, who can offer solace?
चकवी बिछुटी रैणि की, आइ मिली परभाति। जे जन बिछुटे राम सूं, नां सुख धूप न छांह।।१७३८।।
The nightingale, separated from its mate, finds the morning. Those who are separated from Ram, neither find happiness in sunlight nor shade.
बासुरि सुख नां रैणि सुख, ना सुख सुपिनै मांहि। कबीर बिछुट्या राम सूं , नां सुख धूप न छांह।।१७३९।।
The flute does not bring happiness, nor does the night. Neither does sleep provide joy. Kabir says, those separated from Ram, neither find pleasure in sunlight nor shade.
बिरहनि ऊभी पंथ सिरि, पंथी बूझे धाइ। एक सबद कहि पीव का, कब रे मिलैंगे आइ।।१७४०।।
The separation causes pain, the traveler understands and runs on the path. Speaking one word to the beloved, when will we meet again?
बहुत दिनन की जोवती, बाट तुम्हारी राम। जिव तरसै तुझ मिलन कूं, मनि नाहीं विश्राम।।१७४१।।
For many days the journey is long, the path is yours, Ram. The soul yearns to meet you, the heart finds no rest.
बिरहिन ऊठै भी पड़े, दरसन कारनि राम। मूवां पीछें देहुगे, सो दरसन किहिं काम।।१७४२।।
The separation causes pain, even the beloved falls due to longing. If you see from behind, does the sight serve any purpose?
मूंवा पीछैं जिनि मिलै, कहै कबीरा राम। पाथर घाटा लोह सब, पारस कौंणे काम।।१७४३।।
For those who meet at the end, says Kabir, even stone, iron, and all else become valuable. What use is the philosopher's stone?
अंदेसड़ा न भाजिसी, संदेसो कहियां। कै हरि आयां भाजिसी, कै हरि ही पासि गयां।।१७४४।।
The message does not come to you, where is the message? Some say Hari has gone away, while others say Hari is already here.
आइ न सकौं तुझ पैं, सकूं न तूझ बुलाइ। जियरा यौही लेहुगे, बिरह तपाइ तपाइ।।१७४५।।
I cannot come to you, nor can you call me. The heart is burning with separation, continuously burning.
यहु तन जालौं मसि करूं, ज्यूं धूवां जाइ सरग्गि। मति वै राम दया करै, बरसि बुझावै अग्गि।।१७४६।।
Let this body be burnt like ink, as smoke rises to heaven. The mind, however, needs Ram's grace to extinguish the fire within.
यह तन जालौं मसि करौं, लिखौं राम का नाउं। लेखणि करूं करंक की, लिखि राम पठाउं।।१७४७।।
Let this body be burnt like ink, and let me write the name of Ram. Using this pen, I inscribe Ram’s name and send it.
कबीर पीर पिरावनी, पंजर पीड़ न जाइ। एक जू पीड़ पिरीति की, रही कलेजा छाइ।।१७४८।।
Kabir says, the agony of love remains in the heart, even though the external pain may go away. The heart is constantly overwhelmed by the pain of separation.
जबहूं मारयया खैंचि करि, तब मैं पाई जांण। लागी चोट मरम्म की, गई कलेजा छांणि।।१७५१।।
When the mind is drawn to the divine, only then do I gain knowledge. The pain inflicted is deep, tearing apart the heart.
बिरह भुवंगम तन बसै, मंत्र न लागै कोइ। राम वियोगी ना जिवै, जिवै त बौरा होइ।।१७५३।।
The body is consumed by the sting of separation; no mantra can help. The one separated from Ram does not live, they live only as a mad person.
बिरह भुंवगम पैसि करि, किया कलेजै घाव। साधू अंग न मोड़ही, ज्यूं भावै त्यूं खाव।।१७५४।।
The sting of separation creates wounds in the heart. A true saint does not bend or break, they accept whatever comes their way.
सब रग तंत रबाब तन, बिरह बजावै नित्त। और न कोई सुणि सकै, कै साई कै चित्त।।१७५५।।
Every vein and fiber of the body plays the tune of separation. No one else can hear it; it is only for the Lord’s own mind.
बिरहा बिरहा जिनि कहौ, बिरहा है सुलितान। जिह घटि बिरह न संचरै, सो घट सदा मसान।।१७५६।।
One who speaks of separation, speaks of it as a sovereign. The body in which separation does not reside is always a cremation ground.
अंषड़यिां झाई पडो, पंथ निहारि निहारि। जीभड़ियां छाला पड्या, राम पुकारि पुकारि।।१७५७।।
The path is full of thorns, and as I look at it again and again, my tongue is blistered. I keep calling out to Ram.
इस तन का दीया करौं, बाती मेल्यूं जीव। लोही सींचौं तेज ज्यूं, कब मुख देखौं पीव।।१७५८।।
I make the lamp of this body, and the wick is my life. I pour the oil of devotion, and when will I see my Lord’s face?
नैंनां नीझर लाइया, रहट बहै निस जाम। पपीहा ज्यूं पिव पिव करौं, कबहुं मिलहुगे राम।।१७५९।।
With eyes filled with tears, I continuously work, day and night. Like a cuckoo calling out, I keep calling for Ram, hoping to meet Him someday.
अंषडियां प्रेम कसाइयां, लोग जांणे दुखड़ियां। सांई अपणैं कारणैं, रोइ रोइ रतड़ियां।।१७६०।।
The pure love of a lover is known to be painful; people recognize this suffering. But Sai, for His own reasons, causes me to cry endlessly.
सोई आंसू सजणां, सोई लोक बिड़ाहि। जे लोइण लोही चुवै, तौ जांणों हेत हियांहि।।१७६१।।
The same tears are for a lover and the same tears for the world's sorrow. If someone tastes the true essence, they know the love within.
कबीर हसणां दूरि करि, करि रोवण सौं चित्त। बिना रोयां क्यूं पाइये, प्रेम पियारा मित्त।।१७६२।।
Kabir says that laughter is distant and the heart is full of tears. Without crying, how can one obtain the beloved's love?
हंसि हंसि कंत न पाइए, जिनि पाया तिनि रोइ। जो हांसें ही हरि मिलै, तौ नहीं दुहागनि कोइ।।१७६४।।
One cannot attain the beloved through laughter alone; those who have attained the beloved are those who have wept. If one finds Hari through laughter, there is no bride in the world.
हांसी खेलौं हरि मिलै, तौ कौण सहै षरसान। काम क्रोध त्रिष्णां तजै, ताहि मिलैं भगवान।।१७६५।।
If one can attain Hari through laughter and play, who would bear the burden of the battlefield? One must renounce lust, anger, and desire to meet the Lord.
पूति पियारो पिता कौं, गौंहनि लागा धाइ। लोभ मिठाइ हाथि दे, आपण गया भुलाइ।।१७६६।।
The purity of love for the father is like running to the village. Handing over a sweet to greed, one forgets their own self.
डारी खांड पटकि करि, अंतरि रोस उपाइ। रोवत रोवत मिलि गया, पिता पियारे जाइ।।१७६७।।
In anger, one breaks the sugar and cloth; in the heart, anger finds its way. By weeping and weeping, one meets the beloved father.
नैना अंतरि आव तूं, निस दिन निरषौं तोहि। कब हरि दरसन देहुगे, सो दिन आवै मोहि।।१७६८।।
The eyes are filled with your presence, and day and night I yearn for you. When will that day come when I will see Hari's vision?
कबीर देखत दिन गया, निस भी देखत जाइ। बिरहणि पिव पावै नहीं, जियरा तलपैं माइ।।१७६९।।
Kabir sees the day go by, and the night also passes. The longing of separation does not end, the heart keeps burning.
कै बिरहिन कूं मींच दे, कै आपा दिखलाइ। आठ पहर का दाझणां, मोपै सहया न जाइ।।१७७०।।
To the beloved in separation, one shows their own ego. The burning of eight hours is unbearable for me.
बिरहणि थी तौ क्यूं रही, जली न पीव के नालि। रहु रहु मुगध गहेलड़ी, प्रेम न लाजूं मारि।।१७७१।।
Why did the separation persist if it was there? It did not burn with the beloved. I remain bewildered, enduring the pain of love, which does not let shame die.
कबीर तन मन यौं जल्या, बिरह अगनि सूं लागि। मृतक पीड़ न जांणई, जांणेगी यहु आगि।।१७७३।।
Kabir says that the body and mind are burned by the fire of separation. The pain of the dead is not known; only this fire is understood.
बिरह जलाई मैं जलौं, जलती जल हरि जाउं। मो देख्यां जलहरि जलै, संतौं कहां बुझाउं।।१७७४।।
I am burned by the fire of separation, and it burns continuously. Seeing me burn, where will the saints find solace?
परबति परबति मैं फिरया, नैंन गंवाये रोइ। सो बूटी पाऊं नहीं, जातैं जीवनि होइ।।१७७५।।
I wandered from mountain to mountain, weeping and losing my eyes. I cannot find that herb, which would make my life complete.
फाड़ि फुटोला बज करौं, कामलड़ी पहिराउं। जिहि जिहि भेषां हरि मिलै, सोइ सोइ भेष कराउं।।१७७६।।
I wear the torn clothes of a beggar, and dress in a tattered robe. I adopt whatever guise I can to meet Hari.
नैन हमारे जलि गये, छिन छिन लोड़ैं तुझ। नां तूं मिलै न मैं खुसी, ऐसी वेदन मुझ।।१७७७।।
My eyes are burning, every moment longing for you. I find no joy in meeting you, such is my pain.
रैणा दूर बिछोहिया, रहु र संषम झुरि। देवलि दवलि धाहड़ी, देसी ऊगे सूरि।।१७७९।।
The night of separation is far, and I remain enduring the hardship. The temple is burning, and the local sun rises.
कबीर तेज अनंत का, मानौं ऊगी सूरज सेणि। पति संगि जागी सूंदरी, कौतिग दीठा तेणि।।१७८१।।
Kabir says that the radiance of the infinite is like the rising sun. The bride who wakes up with her husband, has seen the grandeur of the divine.
कौतिग दीठा देह बिन, रवि ससि बिना उजास। साहिब सेवा मांहि है, बेपरवाही दास।।१७८२।।
The grandeur of the body without the light of the sun and moon is like a body without radiance. The true service is in the devotion to the Master, which the careless servant understands.
अगम अगोचर गमि नहीं, तहां जगमगै जोति। जहां कबीरा बंदिगी, 'तहां' पाप पुन्य नहीं छोति।।१७८४।।
The incomprehensible and invisible is where the light shines. Where Kabir practices devotion, there are no sins or merits.
कबीर मन मधुकर भया, रह्या निरंतर बास। कंवल जू फूल्या फूल जलह बिन, को देखै निज दास।।१७८५।।
Kabir has become like a bee, constantly dwelling in the heart. The lotus blooms without water; who can see this servant's inner state?
पिंजर प्रेम प्रकासिया, जाग्या जोग अनंत। संसा खूटा सुख भया, मिल्या पियारा कंत।।१७९२।।
The cage of love has revealed itself; infinite yoga has awakened. Doubt is eradicated and happiness is found in the beloved.
पिंजर प्रेम प्रकासिया, अंतरि भया उजास। मुख कसतूरी महमहीं, बांणीं फूटी बास।।१७९३।।
The cage of love has revealed itself; inner light has dawned. The musk on the face exudes fragrance, the essence has burst forth.
मन लागा उनमुनि सौं, उनमनि मनहि बिलग। लूंण बिलगा पाणियां, पांणी लूंणा बिलग।।१७९५।।
The mind attached to the sage is separated from the mundane mind. Salt dissolves in water, and the water dissolves in salt.
चौहटे चिंतामंणि चढ़ी, हाडी मारत हाथि। मीरां मुझसूं मिहर करि, इब मिलौं न काहू साथि।।१७९८।।
The small gem of worry has risen, and the hand strikes the pot. Miran, be merciful to me; now I do not find anyone with me.
सरति समांणों निरति मैं, निरति रही निरधार। सुरति निरति परचा भया, तब खूले स्वयं दुबार।।१८०१।।
As the river flows continuously, it remains steadfast and unwavering. When the divine essence is realized, the doors to self-revelation open.
सुरति समांणी निरति मैं, अपजा माहै जाप। लेख समांणं अलेख मैं, यूं आपा मांहे आप।।१८०२।।
The awareness of the divine essence is equated with devotion. The written and unwritten knowledge is the same; the self is realized within.
अंक भरे भरि भेटिया, मन मैं मांही धीर। कहै कबीर ते क्यूं मिलैं, जब लग दोइ सरीर।।१८०४।।
The filled vessel overflows, the mind is steadfast in its devotion. Kabir questions why one should meet, while both bodies are separate.
सचु पाया सुख ऊपनां, अरु दिल दरिया पूरि। सकल पाप सहजैं गये, जब सांई मिल्या हजूरि।।१८०५।।
True happiness is attained through divine realization, and the heart becomes a full ocean. All sins dissolve effortlessly when one meets the Lord.
हरि संगति सीतल भया, मिटा मोह की ताप। निस बासुरि सखनिध्य लह्या, जब अंतरि प्रकट्या आप।।१८०९।।
In the company of Hari (God), one becomes cool and the heat of attachment is removed. The night and the dawn are experienced when the inner self is revealed.
जा कारणि मैं जाइ था, सोई पाई ठोर। सोई फिरि आपण भया, जासूं कहता और।।१८१६।।
The reason I went was to find a resting place. That same place turned out to be myself, though I was speaking of others.
गगन गरजि अंमृत चवै, कदली कवल प्रकास। तहां कबीरा बंदिगी, कै कोई निज दास।।१८१९।।
The sky roars with the nectar of immortality, and the banana plant glows. There, Kabir’s devotion resides, where someone is the true servant.
नींव बिहूंणां देहुरा, देह बिहूंणां देव। कबीर तहां बिलंबिया, करे अलष की सेव।।१८२०।।
The temple without a foundation is the body, and the deity without a body is God. Kabir says that there, neglect and indolence are worshipped.
अनहद बाजै नीझर झरै, उपजै ब्रह्म गियान। अबिगति अंतरि प्रगटै, लागै प्रेम धियान।।१८२२।।
The unstruck sound resonates and falls, and the knowledge of Brahma arises. The ineffable becomes apparent within, and love and contemplation arise.
ममिता मेरा क्या करै, प्रेम उघाड़ी पौलि। दरसन भया दयाल का, सूल भई सुख सौड़ि।।१८२७।।
What does attachment do to me? Love has revealed the truth. The vision of the compassionate one turned my suffering into joy.
कबीर प्रीतड़ी तौ तुझ सौं, बहु गुणियाले कंत। जे हंसि बोलौं और सौं, तौं नील रंगाऊ दंत।।१८२८।।
Kabir, the lover of the beloved, adores the many qualities of the beloved. If I smile and speak with you, I’ll turn my teeth blue.
नैनां अंतरि आव तूं, ज्यूं हौं नैन झंपेउ। नां हौं देखौं और कूं, नां तुझ देखने देउं।।१८२९।।
You come within my eyes, as I shut them. I do not see anything else, nor do I allow you to be seen by others.
मेरा मुझ में कुछ नहीं, जो कुछ है सो तेरा। तेरा तुझकौं सौंपता, क्या लागै है मेरा।।१८३०।।
There is nothing of mine in me; whatever is there is yours. I surrender to you all that is yours, what do I have of my own?
कबीर रेख सिंदूर की, काजल दिया न जाइ। नैनूं रमइया रमि रह्या, दूजा कहां समाइ।।१८३१।।
Kabir, the line of vermilion cannot be applied as kajal. The eyes of the beloved are absorbed in the beloved, where else can they be?
कबीर सीप समंद की, रटै पियास पियास। समुदहि तिणका करि गिणै, स्वांति बूंद की आस।।१८३२।।
Kabir, the oyster of the sea yearns for the water, counting every grain of sand in the ocean, hoping for a drop of peace.
दोजग तो हम अंगिया, यह डर नाहीं मुझ। भिस्त न मेर चाहिये, बाझ पियारे तुझ।।१८३४।।
We are the garments of hell, but I have no fear of this. I do not desire any other; without you, my beloved.
जब लग भगति सकामता, तब लग निष्फल सेव। कहै कबीर वै क्यूं मिलै, निहकामी निज देव।।१८३७।।
As long as devotion is driven by desire, service remains fruitless. Kabir says, why would such a person find the true deity?
आसा एक जू राम की, दूजी आस निरास। पांणी माहैं घर करें, ते भी मरैं पियास।।१८३८।।
One hope is in Ram, the other is despair. Even if water is gathered in the house, thirst remains unquenched.
जे मन लागै एक सूं, तौ निरबाल्या जाइ। तूरा दुइ मुखि बाजणां, न्याइ तमाचे खाइ।।१८३९।।
If the mind is focused on the One, it becomes unshakable. Like a drum with two faces, it deserves a slap.
कबीर कलि जुग आइ करि, कीये बहुतज मांत। जिन दिल बंधी एक सूं, ते सुख सोवै नवींत।।१८४०।।
In the age of Kali, many have become vain. Those whose hearts are bound to the One, find fresh joy.
कबीर कूता राम का, मुतिया मेरा नाउं। गलै राम की जेवड़ी, जित खंचे तित जाउं।।१८४१।।
Kabir, I am a dog of Ram, and my name is Mutia. I move wherever Ram's leash pulls me.
तो तो करै त बाहुड़ो, दूरि-दूरि करै तो जाउं। ज्यूं हरि राखै त्यूं रहौ, जो देवै सो खाउं।।१८४२।।
Whether you move away or stay close, I will follow as Hari directs. I eat what the Lord provides.
मन प्रतीति न प्रेम रस, नां इस तन मैं ढंग। क्या जाणौं उस पीव सूं, कैसे रहसी रंग।।१८४३।।
The mind does not grasp the essence of love, nor is there a method in this body. How can we know the true color of the beloved?
उस संम्रथ का दास हौं, कदे न होइ अकाज। प्रतिब्रता नंगी रहै, तौ उसकी पारिस कौ लाज।।१८४४।।
I am a servant of the almighty, never is there any undone work. The servant remains naked, thus he is the pride of his master.
धरि परमेसरू पांहणां, सुणौं सनेही दास। षट रस भोजन भगति करि, ज्यूं कदे न छाड पास।।१८४५।।
Holding the supreme Lord in my heart, I listen to the beloved servant. I partake in the six tastes of devotion, never leaving it behind.
अनल अकांसा घर किया, मधि निरंतर बास। बसुधा ब्यौम बिरकत रहै, बिनठाहर बिसवास।।१८४७।।
The home of the fire (desire) is within, where it continuously resides. The earth and the sky are distant; faith resides beyond them.
जिहि पैडे पंडित गए, दुनिया परी बहीर। औघट घाटी गुर कही, तिहिं चढ़ि रह्या कबीर।।१८४९।।
Where the learned scholars have gone, the world has turned outward. Kabir remains in the sacred place described by the Guru.
हिंदू मूये राम कहि, मुसलमान खुदाइ। कहै कबीर सो जीवता, दुई मैं कदे न जाइ।।१८५१।।
The Hindu calls God Ram, the Muslim calls Him Khuda. Kabir says that He is ever-living; He does not belong to either of the two.
कबीर हरदी पीयरी, चूना ऊजल भाइ। राम सनेही यूं मिले, दुन्यूं बरन गंवाइ।।१८५३।।
Kabir says that the saffron is yellow and the lime is bright. Those who meet Ram with love, forsake the world’s colors.
काबा फिर कासी भया, राम भया रहीम। मोट चून मैदा भया, बैठि कबीरा जीम।।१८५४।।
The Kaaba became Kashi, Ram became Rahim. Flour, sugar, and bread are present; Kabir sits and eats.
कबीर सांई तो मिलहगै, पूछिहिंगे कुसलात। आदि अंति की कहूंगा, उर अंतर की बात।।१८५६।।
Kabir says, when you meet the Lord, He will inquire about your well-being. I will tell Him everything from the beginning to the end, the innermost secrets of my heart.
कबीर भूलि बिगाड़िया, तूं नां करि मैला चित। साहिब गरवा लोड़िये, नफर बिगाड़ैं नित।।१८५७।।
Kabir says, don't ruin your mind with mistakes and keep it pure. Seek the Lord's protection, as people constantly cause harm.
औसर बीता अलपतन, पीस रह्मा परदेस। कलंक उतारी केसवां, भांनौ भरंम अंदेश।।१८५९।।
The time for repentance is short, and you are wasting it in ignorance. Remove the stains of sin, for illusion and doubt have taken over.
कबीर करत है बीनती, भौसागर के तांई। बंदे ऊपरि जोर होत है, जंम कूं बारिज गुसाई।।१८६०।।
Kabir pleads to the Lord, for the ocean of life is vast. The burden on the soul is great, and rebirths are countless.
हज बाकै ह्वै ह्वै गया, केती बार कबीर। मीरां मुझ मैं क्या खता, मुखां न बोलै पीर।।१८६१।।
Kabir says, I have performed the Hajj countless times. What fault lies in me, that my spiritual guide doesn't speak to me?
ज्यूं मन मेरा तुझ सौं, यौं जे तेरा होइ। ताता लोहा यौं मिलै, संधि न लखई कोइ।।१८६२।।
If your mind merges with mine as mine does with yours, it will be like two pieces of iron welded together, with no visible seam.
राम नाम सब कोई कहै, कहिबे बहुत विचार। सोई राम सती कहै, सोई कौतिग हार।।१८६३।।
Everyone utters the name of Ram, but few understand its true meaning. Only the true devotee who understands, wins the real victory.
आगि कह्यां दाझै नहीं, जे नहीं चंपै पाइ। जब लग भेद न जांणिये, राम कह्या तौ काइ।।१८६४।।
Fire won't burn just by saying 'fire' if it's not touched. Similarly, just saying 'Ram' is useless until you understand its essence.
नौ मण सूत अलूझिया, कबीर घर घर बारि। तिनि सुलझाया बापुड़े, जिनि जाणीं भगति मुरारि।।१८६७।।
Nine tons of thread are tangled, and the whole household is in turmoil. Only those who understand the devotion to the Lord can untangle it.
आधी साधी सिरि कटैं, जोर विचारा जाइ। मनि परतीति न ऊपजे, तौ राति दिवस मिलि गाइ।।१८६८।।
Half-hearted attempts and weak efforts won't lead to success. Without deep conviction, even constant efforts are in vain.
हरि मोती की माल है, पोई कांच तागि। जतन करि झंटा घंणा, टूटेगी कहूं लागि।।१८७०।।
The necklace of the Lord's pearls is strung on a fragile thread of glass. No matter how carefully you handle it, it may break at any time.
राम नाम करि बोहड़ा, बोहो बीज अघाई। अंति कालि सूका पड़, तौ निरफल कदे न जाई।।१८७२।।
Make the name of Ram your raft and sow the seeds of good deeds abundantly. Even in the end times of drought, they will never go to waste.
चिंतामणि मन में बसै, सोई चित मैं आणि। बिन चिंता चिंता करै, इहैं प्रभु की बाणि।।१८७३।।
The philosopher's stone resides in the mind, bringing forth whatever is desired. Worry not, for the Lord’s will takes care of everything.
कबीर का तूं चितवै, का तेरा चिंता होइ। अणध्यंत्या हरिजी करै, जो तोहि चिंत न होइ।।१८७४।।
Kabir asks, why do you worry? What is there to be concerned about? The Lord takes care of everything, even if you don’t.
चिंता न करि अचिंत रहु, साई है सम्रथ। पसु पंषेरू जीव जंत, तिनको गांडिं किसा ग्रंथ।।१८७६।।
Do not worry, remain carefree, for the Lord is all-powerful. He provides for every creature, be it animals or birds.
संत न बांधै गांठड़ी, पेट समाता लेइ। सांई सूं सनमुख रहै, जहां मांगै तहां देइ।।१८७७।।
The saint does not hoard, he takes only what fits in his belly. He remains facing the Lord, who provides wherever needed.
राम राम सुं दिल मिली, जम सो पड़ी बिराई। मोहि भरोसा इष्ट का, बंदा नरकि न जाई।।१८७८।।
When the heart is united with the name of Ram, even Yama (death) becomes a stranger. With faith in the Lord, the soul will not go to hell.
कबीर तूं काहे डरै, सिर परि हरि का हाथ। हस्ती चढ़ि नहीं डोलिये, कूकर भूसैं जु लाष।।१८७९।।
Kabir, why do you fear when the Lord’s hand is over you? Do not be shaken like an elephant mounted on its path by barking dogs.
पांडल पंजर मन भंवर, अरथ अनूपम बास। राम नाम सींच्या अंमी, फल लागा बेसास।।१८८३।।
The hollow cage of the mind is like a bee, seeking the unparalleled fragrance. Watered by Ram’s name, it bears a bountiful harvest.
मेर मिटी मुकता भया, पाया ब्रह्म बिसास। अब मेरे दूजा को नहीं, एक तुम्हारी आस।।१८८४।।
Ego has vanished, and liberation is attained; faith in the Brahman is realized. Now, I have no other desire, only hope in You.
जाकी दिल में हरि बसै, सो नर कलपै कांइ। एक लहरि समंद की, दुख दलिद्र सब जांइ।।१८८५।।
He in whose heart the Lord resides, why should he suffer? Like a single wave in the ocean, all sorrow and poverty disappear.
पद गाये लैलीन ह्व, कटी न संसै पास। सबै पिछीड़े ग्रिह मैं, इक गृही मैं बैराग।।१८८६।।
Merely singing hymns with superficial devotion does not eliminate doubts. While most remain attached to household life, true renunciation can exist even within a householder.
गाया तिनि पाया नहीं, अणगांयां ते दूरि। जिनि गाया बिसवास सूं, तिन राम रह्या भरिपूरि।।१८८७।।
Those who sang without true devotion did not attain anything, and those who did not sing are even further away. But those who sang with deep faith found Lord Ram residing fully within them.
सत गंठी कोपीन है, साध न मानै संक। राम अमलि माता रहै, ते गिणं इंद्र कौ रंक।।१८९४।।
A true ascetic wears a simple loincloth and does not indulge in doubts. Even Indra, the king of gods, seems like a pauper in comparison to one who is intoxicated with the divine name of Ram.
सात समुंद की मसि करौं, लेखनि सब बनराइ। धरती सब कागद करौं, तऊ गरू गुण लिख्या न जाइ।।१८९९।।
Even if I turn the seven seas into ink and all the wood into pens, even if I use the entire earth as paper, I still cannot write all the virtues of my Guru.
कबीर बारया नाव परि, कीया राई लूंण। जिसहि चलावै पंथ तूं, तिसहि भुलावै कौंण।।१९०३।।
Kabir says, once you've boarded the boat of truth, even a pinch of salt becomes enough. Who can mislead those whom the true path guides?
सांई से सब होत हैं, बंदे से कछु नाहिं। राई से परबत करे, परबत राई मांहि।।१९०६।।
Everything happens through the Lord, nothing through the individual. A mustard seed can turn into a mountain, and a mountain into a mustard seed.
काइर हुंवां न छूटिये, कछु सूरातन साहि। भरम भलका दूरि करि, सुमिरण सेल संवाहि।।१९०७।।
The fool will not be freed, despite all attempts. Dispel doubts and remember the Lord's name.
कबीर आरणि पैसि करि, पीछैं रहै सु सूर। सांई सूं साचा भया, रहसी सदा हजूर।।१९११।।
Kabir says, even if you struggle with the fire, the sun remains behind. By being true to the Lord, you will always be in His presence.
अब तौ झूझयां ही वणौं, मूढ़ि चाल्यां घर दूरि। सिर साहिब कौं सौंपता, सोच न कीजै सूरि।।१९१६।।
Now I have fought enough, my foolish actions have taken me far from home. I have surrendered my head to the Lord, do not worry, O hero.
जिस मरनै से जग डरै, सो मेरे आनंद। कब मरिहूं कब देखिहूं, पूरन परमानंद।।१९१८।।
That which causes fear to the world is my joy. When will I die and when will I see the complete bliss?
दूरि भया तो का भया, सिर दे नेडा होइ। जब लग सिर सौंपै नहीं, कारिज सिधि न होइ।।१९२३।।
What is the use of distance? The head must be offered up close. Without surrendering completely, success cannot be achieved.
कबीर यह घर प्रेम का, खाला का घर नांहि। सीस उतारै हाथि करि, सो पैठ घर मांहि।।१९२४।।
Kabir says, this is the home of love, not the house of the maternal uncle. He who places his head and hands there, truly resides in the house of love.
कबीर निज घर प्रेम का, मारग अगम अगाध। सीस उतारि पग तलि घरै, तब निकटि प्रेम का स्वाद।।१९२५।।
Kabir says, the path to the home of love is profound and unfathomable. Only by bowing down and placing one's head and feet there can one truly experience the taste of love.
सीस काटि पासंग दिया, जीव सरभरि लीन्हा। जाहि भावे सो आइ ल्यो, प्रेम हाट हम कीन्ह।।१९२६।।
By cutting off his head and offering it, the soul has been completely absorbed. Whatever the soul desires, it has attained; we have established the marketplace of love.
सूर सीस उतारिया, छाड़ा तन की आस। आगैं थैं हरि मुलकिया, आवत देख्या दास।।१९२७।।
By bowing down, the head is offered, leaving aside the desires of the body. Ahead is the realm of the Lord; thus, the servant sees the Lord coming.
सती जलन कूं नीकली, चित्त धरि एकबमेख। तन मन सौंप्या पीव कूं, तब अंतर रही न रेख।।१९२८।।
The burning of the wife (in the fire of sacrifice) was proper when the mind was focused solely on the divine. When the body and mind were surrendered to the Lord, no trace of distinction remained.
कबीर प्रगट राम कहि, छांनै राम न गाइ। फूस क जौंड़ा दूरि करि, ज्यूं बहुरि न लागै लाइ।।१९३०।।
Kabir says, if one speaks of the revealed Ram but does not sing of Ram, then it is like removing the thatch from the roof, which does not stop the rain from falling again.
कबीर हरि सबकूं भजै, हरि कूं भजै न कोइ। जब लग आस सरीर की, तब लग दास न होइ।।१९३१।।
Kabir says, everyone worships the Lord, but no one worships the Lord truly. As long as there is attachment to the body, one cannot be a true servant.
आप सवारथ मेदनीं, भगत सवारथ दास। कबीर राम सवारथी, जिनि छाड़ी तन की आस।।१९३२।।
One who is self-serving is the master of the world; the devotee is the servant of the Lord. Kabir says, the one who has abandoned all desires for the body is the true servant of Ram.
कोइ एक देखै संत जन, जांकै पांचूं हाथि। जाके पांचूं बस नहीं, ता हरि संग न साधि।।१९३४।।
One who truly sees a saint knows that all five senses are under control. If one's senses are not under control, one cannot attain union with the Divine.
कबीर खोजी राम का, गया जु सिंघल दीप। राम तो घट भीतर रमि रह्या, जौ आवै परतीत।।१९३६।।
Kabir, a seeker of Ram, went to Ceylon Island. But Ram, who resides within, is realized only when one has faith.
मैं जाण्यां हरि दूरि है, हरि रह्या सकल भरपूरि। आप पिछांणै बहिरा, नेड़ा की थैं दूरि।।१९३८।।
I know that the Divine is not distant; it is present everywhere. If you are blind to it, you are distant even when it is close.
राम नाम तिहूं लोक मैं, सकलहु रह्या भरपूरि। यह चतुराई जाहु जलि, खोजत डोलैं दूरि।।१९४०।।
The name of Ram is present in all three worlds, pervading everything. Such cleverness is of no use if one is wandering in search of it far away.
हिरदा भीतरि दौं बलै, धूंवां प्रगट न होइ। जाकै लागी सो लखै, कै जिहि लाई सोइ।।१९४३।।
The fire inside the heart remains hidden, not revealed outwardly. Only those who experience it know it, just as the smoke reveals the fire to those who can perceive it.
कबीर हरि रस यौं पिया, बाकी रही न थाकि। पाका कलस कुंभार का, बहुरि न चढ़हि चाकि।।१९५०।।
Kabir says that once one drinks the nectar of Hari, there is no fatigue left. A potter's vessel that is once baked does not return to the wheel again.
राम रसाइन प्रेम रस, पीवत अधिक रसाल। कबीर पीवण दुर्लभ है, मांगै सीस कलाल।।१९५१।।
The essence of Ram's love is exceedingly sweet. Kabir says that obtaining such nectar is rare and requires one to offer their head to attain it.
कबीर भाठी कलाल की, बहुतक बैठे आइ। सिर सौंपे सोई पिवै, नहीं तो पिया न जाइ।।१९५२।।
Kabir says that a potter’s kiln requires a long time to fire. Only those who offer their heads will drink, otherwise, the beloved will not come.
मैंमंता तिण नां चरै, सालै चिता सनेह। एक बारि जु बांध्या प्रेम कै, डारि रह्या सिरि षेह।।१९५३।।
The attachment to worldly things is like a burning pyre. Once bound by love, one remains steadfast in it, as if their head is tied with it.
मैंमंता अविगत रता, अकलप आसा जीति। राम अमलि माता रहै, जीवत मुकति अतीति।।१९५४।।
Attachment is unknowingly persistent, it defeats the unconditioned hope. When Ram's pure essence remains as the mother, liberation is achieved in life itself.
कबीर जोगी बनि बस्या, षणि खाये कंद मूल। नां जाणौं किस जड़ी थै, अमर भए असथूल।।१९५८।।
Kabir became a yogi and lived on roots and tubers. I do not know which herb made him immortal and incorporeal.
कबीर हरि चरणौं चल्या, माया मोह थै टूटि। गगन मंडल आसण किया, काल गया सिर कूटि।।१९५९।।
Kabir walked on the path of Hari's feet, breaking free from illusion and attachment. He made the sky his seat, and time struck on his head.
कबीर मन तीषा किया, बिरह लाइ परषांन। चित चरणूं मैं चभि रह्या, तहां नहीं काल का पाण।।१९६१।।
Kabir made his mind a razor, troubled by the pain of separation. His heart remained fixed on the feet, where time’s hand does not reach.
तरवर तास बिलांबिए, बारह मास फलंत। सीतल छाया गहर फल, पंषी केलि करंत।।१९६२।।
The tree takes its time, and bears fruit for twelve months. The cool shade remains, while the birds continue their play.
ऐसा कोई ना मिले, राम भगति का गीत। तन मन सौंपे मृग ज्यूं, सुनै बधिक का गीत।।१९६६।।
No one is found to sing the song of Ram's devotion. Just as a deer surrenders its body and mind, it listens to the hunter's song.
ऐसा कोई ना मिले, अपना घर देइ जराइ। पंचूं लरिका पटिक करि, रहै राम ल्यौं लाइ।।१९६७।।
No one is found who will set fire to their own house. Five children are dressed as beggars, while Ram remains in the same place.
ऐसा कोई ना मिले, जासौं रहिये लागि। सब जग जलता देखिये, अपणीं अपणीं आगि।।१९६८।।
No one is found who remains constant. Seeing the whole world burning, one must attend to their own fire.
तीनि सनेही बहु मिले, चौथे मिले न कोइ। सब पियारे राम के, बैठे परबसि होइ।।१९७१।।
Many lovers are found in the three realms, but no one is found in the fourth. All beloveds are of Ram, who are under His control.
सारा सूरा बहु मिलैं, घाइल मिले न कोइ। घाइल ही घाइल मिले, तब राम भगति दिढ़ होइ।।१९७३।।
Many are found with wine, but no one is found with wounds. Only the wounded find the way to Ram's devotion.
पुरपाटण सुबस बसै, आनंद ढांये ढांइ। राम सनेही बाहिरा, ऊंजड़ मेरे भांइ।।१९८१।।
The old garment sits well, and the joy it brings is indescribable. The beloved of Ram is outside, and I am left behind.
जिहं घरि साध न पूजिये, हरि की सेवा नांहि। ते घर मुड़हट सारषे, भूत बसै तिन मांहि।।१९८२।।
Where saints are not honored, and service to Hari is not performed, that house is of no worth, inhabited by ghosts.
है गै गैंवर सघन घन, छत्र धजा फहराइ। ता सुख थैं भिष्या भली, हरि सुमिरत दिन जाइ।।१९८३।।
The dark cloud of thick rain, with the flag fluttering. The comfort of that is better than the heat; by remembering Hari, the day passes peacefully.
क्यूं नृप नारी नींदये, क्यूं पनिहारी कौं मान। व मांग संवारै पीव कौं, वा नित उठि सुमिरै राम।।१९८४।।
Why do the king and queen sleep, and why is the water carrier honored? One who adorns the bride and always remembers Ram, is truly honored.
कबीर धनि ते सुंदरी, जिन जाया बैसनौं पूत। राम सुमरि नरिभै हुवा, सब जग गया अऊत।।१९८५।।
Kabir says, the rich and beautiful woman, who has sons and wealth, has attained true greatness by remembering Ram. All the world is in awe of her.
कबीर कुल तौं सो भला, जिहि कुल उपजै दास। जिहि कुल दास न ऊपजै, सो कुल आक पलास।।१९८६।।
Kabir says, a family is truly good if it gives rise to servants of God. A family that does not produce such servants is like a barren tree.
साषत बांभण मति मिलै, बैसनौं मिलै चंडाल। अंकमाल दे भेटिये, मांनों मिले गोपाल।।१९८७।।
Wisdom is found with the Brahmins, and the lower castes are met with outcasts. When we meet the divine, it is like meeting Gopal (Krishna).
राम जपत दालिद भला, टूटि घर की छांनि। ऊचे मंदिर जालि दे, जहां भगति न सारंगपांनि।।१९८८।।
Chanting Ram is good for the poor, even if the roof of the house breaks. Set fire to the high temple where devotion does not reach.
निरबैरी निहकांमता, सांई सेती नेह। विषिया सूं न्यारा रहै, संतहि का अंग एह।।१९८९।।
Harmlessness and humility are the essence of love with the divine. Being detached from worldly pleasures, this is the true mark of a saint.
संत न छाडै संतई, जे कोटिक मिलैं असंत। चंदन भुवंगा बैठिया, तउ सीतलता न तजंत।।१९९०।।
A saint does not abandon his saintliness even if millions of ungodly people come. Just as sandalwood does not lose its coolness while burning, a true saint does not lose his essence.
कबीर हरि का भावता, झीणां पंजर तास। रैणि न आवै नींदड़ी, अंगि न चढ़ई मास।।१९९१।।
Kabir says, the one who feels the presence of Hari, even a thin cover is enough for him. He does not find sleep at night, and the body does not feel the passage of time.
अणरता सुका सीवणां, रातै नींद न आइ। ज्यूं जल टूटै मंछली, यूं बेलंत बिहाइ।।१९९२।।
The thirst of the soul is like a dried-up river, it does not find sleep at night. Just as a fish out of water flounders, so does the soul in its longing.
राम वियोगी तन बिकल, ताहि न चीन्है कोइ। तंबोली के पान ज्यूं, दिन दिन पीला होइ।।१९९६।।
The body of the one separated from Ram is in distress, but no one recognizes this. Just like the betel leaf turns yellow day by day, so does the body of such a person.
पीलक दौड़ी सांइयां, लोग कहै पिंड रोग। छांनै लंघण नित करै, राम पियारे जोग।।१९९७।।
The mad person runs about, people call it a disease of the body. But the one who practices devotion daily is engaged in the true yoga of Ram.
काम मिलावे राम कूं, जे कोइ जांणे राषि। कबीर बिचारा क्या करे, जाकी सुखदेव बोले साषि।।१९९८।।
One who understands the essence of work achieves Ram. What can the poor Kabir do, whom even Sukdev has praised?
कांमणि अंग बिरकत भया, रत भया हरि नांहि। साषी गोरखनाथ ज्यूं, अमर भए कलि मांहि।।१९९९।।
The devotee's body has become detached, and he is absorbed in Hari. Just like Gorakhnath, he has become immortal in this Kali Yuga.
जदि बिषै पियारी प्रीति सूं, तब अंतर हरि नांहि। जब अंतर हरि जी बसै, तब विषिया सूं चित्त नांहि।।२०००।।
If one loves the world with deep affection, then the divine does not dwell within. When the divine resides within, the mind is not attracted to worldly pleasures.
जिहि घट मैं संसौ बसै, तिहि घटि राम न जोइ। राम सनेही दास विचि, तिणं न संचर होइ।।२००१।।
In a place where doubt resides, Ram does not dwell. The devotee who loves Ram does not wander around.
स्वारथ को सबको सगा, सब सगलाही जांणि। बिन स्वारथ आदर करै, सो हरि की प्रीति पिछांणि।।२००२।।
Self-interest is dear to everyone, and everyone knows this. The one who respects without self-interest is known to have true love for Hari.
फाटै दीदै मैं फिरी, नजरि न आवै कोइ। जिहि घटि मेरा सांइयां, सो क्यू छाना होइ।।२००४।।
I roam about, showing my wear and tear, but no one notices. When my beloved resides within, why is there any obscurity?
सब घटि मेरा सांइयां, सूनी सेज न कोई। भाग तिन्हौं का हे सखी, जिहि घटि परगट होइ।।२००५।।
In all hearts resides my beloved, no place is left empty. How fortunate are those who, when they are visible, make themselves known.
कबीर खालिक जागिया, और न जागै कोइ। कै जागे बिनसई विष भरया, कै दास बंदगी होइ।।२००६।।
Kabir has awakened to the Creator, and no one else has. Whoever awakens with poison filled within, becomes a servant of devotion.
कबीर संगति साध की, कदे न निष्फल होइ। चंदन होसी बांवना, नीव न कहसी कोइ।।२००८।।
The company of the virtuous is never fruitless. Even sandalwood, if applied, will not diminish its fragrance.
मथुरा जावै द्वारिका, भावै जावै जगनाथ। साध संगति हरि भगति बिन, कछु न आवै हाथ।।२०१०।।
One may visit Mathura, Dwarka, or Jagannath, but without the company of saints and devotion to Hari, nothing is achieved.
मेरे संगी दोइ जणां, एक वैष्णों एक राम। वो है दाता मुक्ति का, वो सुमिरावै नाम।।२०११।।
I have two companions, one is Vaishnava and the other is Ram. One is the giver of liberation, and the other is the one who remembers the name.
कबीर बन बन मैं फिरा, कारणि अपणें राम। राम सरीखे जन मिले, तिन सारे सब काम।।२०१२।।
Kabir roamed through the forests for the sake of his own Ram. Those who are like Ram are able to fulfill all tasks.
कबीर सोई दिन भला, जा दिन संत मिलाहि। अंक भरे भरि भेटिया, पाप सरीरौ जांहि।।२०१३।।
Kabir considers that day to be good when he meets a saint. By meeting such a person, the account of sins is filled and the sinful body is purified.
कबीर खाई कोट की, पाणी पीवे न कोइ। आई मिलै जब गंग मैं, तब सब गंगोदिक होइ।।२०१५।।
Kabir speaks of eating hundreds of pots but finding no one to drink the water. When one meets the Ganga, all becomes sanctified.
जांनि बूझि सांचहि तजै, करै झूठ सूं नेहु। ताको संगति राम जी, सुपिनै ही जिनि देहु।।२०१६।।
One who understands and abandons falsehood while engaging in truth. That person will have the company of Ram, even in dreams.
केती लहरि समंद की, कत उपजै कत जाइ। बलिहारी ता दास की, उलटी मांहि समाइ।।२०१८।।
How many waves arise and fade in the ocean? I am devoted to that servant who immerses himself even in adverse conditions.
काजल केरी कोठड़ी, काजल ही का कोट। बलिहारी ता दास की, जे रहै राम की ओट।।२०१९।।
The kajal (eyeliner) is in the room of kajal, and the kajal itself is the boundary. I am devoted to that servant who is shielded by Ram.
भगति हजारी कपड़ा, तामें मल न समाइ। साषित काली कांवली, भावैं तहां बिछाइ।।२०२०।।
The cloth of devotion is priceless and cannot be tainted. The black kanti (necklace) is revered and adorned.
जप तप दीसैं थोथरा, तीरथ ब्रत बेसास। सूवै सैबल सेबिया, यौं जग चल्या निरास।।२०२८।।
The rituals of chanting and penance appear hollow, and pilgrimages and fasts are meaningless. Those who sleep in comforts, see the world go by in vain.
कबीर दुनिया देहुरै, सीस नवांवण जाइ। हिरदा भीतर हरि बसै, तूं ताही सौं ल्यौं लाइ।।२०३०।।
Kabir says that worshipping in the external world is futile. The Lord resides within the heart, so seek Him there.
अब तो एसी ह्वै पड़ी, नां तू बड़ी न बेलि। जालण आंणो लाकड़ी, ऊठी कूंपल मेल्हि।।२०३१।।
Now it is like this, neither big nor much. The firewood is burning, but the sprouts are coming up.
आगे-आगे दौ जलै, पीछे हरिया होइ। बलिहारी ता बिरष की, जड़ काट्यां फल होइ।।२०३२।।
Ahead, it burns, while behind it is green. Blessed is the tree which, when its root is cut, still bears fruit.
सींध भइ तब का भया, चहूं दिसि फूटी बास। अजहूं बीज अंकूर है, भीऊगण की आस।।२०३६।।
When the seed is ripe, it spreads its fragrance in all directions. Even now, the seed has sprouted, showing the hope of a new beginning.
कांमणि काली नागणीं, तीन्यूं लोक मंझारि। राम सनेही ऊबरे, विषई खाये झारि।।२०३७।।
The black serpent of desire affects all three worlds. But those who are dear to Ram are protected, while others suffer from the poison of desire.
कामंणि मीनीं षांणि की, जे छेड़ौं तौ खाइ। जे हरि चरणां राचियां, तिनके निकट न जाइ।।२०३८।।
The desire for wealth is like a poisonous fish; if provoked, it will bite. Those who are devoted to the feet of Hari, remain untouched by such desires.
नर नारी सब नरक है, जब लग देह सकाम। कहै कबीर ते राम के, जे सुमिरै निहकाम।।२०४३।।
Both men and women are in hell as long as they desire bodily pleasures. Kabir says that those who remember Ram with selflessness are free from this hell.
नारी नसाबैं नीति सुख, जा नर पासैं होइ। भगति मुकति निज ग्यान मैं, पैसि न सकई कोइ।।२०४५।।
The virtue and happiness that come from a woman are temporary. True devotion and liberation come from one’s own knowledge and cannot be attained through others.
कबीर भग की प्रीतड़ी, केते गए गडंत। केते अजहूं जायसी, नरकि हसंत हसंत।।२०४८।।
Kabir, the love for God is precious, many have lost their count. Many are still going, laughing, straight to hell.
भगति बिगाड़ी कांमियां, इंद्री के रे स्वादि। हीरा खोया हाथ से, जनम गंवाया बादि।।२०५२।।
Devotion ruined by desires, for the taste of senses. The diamond was lost from the hand, the life wasted in vain.
कामीं कदे न हरि भजै, जपै न कैसौ जाप। रांम कहे से जलि मरै, कोई पूरिबला पाप।।२०५६।।
The lustful never worship Hari, nor do they chant any prayer. Saying 'Ram' burns them alive, such is their sinful nature.
स्वांमीं हूवा सीतका, पैकाकार पचास। राम नांम काठै रह्या, करैं सिषां की आस।।२०६५।।
The master became poor, fifty disciples gather. Chanting the name of Ram, they hope for their teacher's grace.
चारिउ बेद पढ़ाइ करि, हरि सूं न लाया हेत। बालि कबीरा ले गया, पंडित ढूंढै खत।।२०६९।।
Even after reading all four Vedas, they did not develop love for Hari. Kabir took the real wealth, while the scholar is left searching for the script.
तीरथ करि करि मुवा, जुड़े पाणी न्हाइ। रामहि राम जपंतडां, काल घसीट्यां जाइ।।२०७७।।
Many have died visiting holy places, bathing in sacred waters. Even while chanting 'Ram', they are dragged away by time.
कासी काठैं घर करैं, पीवैं निर्मल नीर। मुकति नहीं हरि नांव बिन, यौं कहै दास कबीर।।२०७८।।
Building a home in Kashi, drinking pure water. But liberation is not possible without God's name, so says Kabir.
कबीर इस संसार कौं, समझाऊं कै बार। पूछ जू पकडै़ भेड़ की, उतरया चाह पार।।२०७९।।
Kabir has tried to explain this world, time and again. But like the one holding a sheep's tail, they wish to cross the ocean.
कबिरा सोई शूरमां, जिन पांचों राखी चरि। जिनके पांचूं मोकली, तिनसूं साहब दूर।।२०८०।।
Kabir says, true heroes are those who control their five senses. Those who fail are far from the Lord.
घायल की गति और है, औरन की गति और। लागा बान जो प्रेम का, रहा कबीरा ठौर।।२०८३।।
The condition of the wounded is different, different is the condition of others. Kabir remains steady, struck by the arrow of love.
दूर भया तो क्या भया, शिर दै नियरा होय। जग लग शिर सौंपे नहीं, कारज सिद्ध न कोय।।२०८५।।
What if it seems far? When you bow your head, it is close. Without surrendering the head, no task is accomplished in this world.
ढोल दमामा गडगडी, सहनाई औ तूर। तीनौ निकसि न बाहुरै, साधु सती और शूर।।२०८८।।
The drums, trumpets, and flutes sound aloud. Three types of people never return once they leave: the saint, the virtuous, and the brave.
साधु सती और शूरमा, कबहुं न फेरें पीठ। तीनों निकसि जो बाहुरै, ताको मुंह मति दीठ।।२०९०।।
Saints, virtuous ones, and warriors never turn their backs. If any of these return after leaving, don't ever trust them again.
साधु सती औ शूरमां, इन पटतर कोई नाहिं। अगम पंथ को पग धरै, डिगै तो कहां समाहि।।२०९२।।
Saints, virtuous ones, and warriors are incomparable. They walk the path of the unknown, and if they falter, where would they go?
भाव भलका सुरति शर, धर धीरज करतान। मनकी मूठी जहां लगि, चोट तहांहीं जान।।२०९६।।
The essence of virtue is like a sharp arrow; it requires patience to bear. Wherever the mind's grasp is applied, the injury is felt there.
कहै दरबारी बातरी, क्यों पावै वह धाम। शीश उतारै संचरै, नाहिं और को काम।।२०९७।।
The courtier speaks of divine realms, but why does he attain that state? He bows his head and wanders, but does not engage in other tasks.
शिर राखे शिर जात है, शिर काटै शिर होय। उसे बाती दीप की, कटि उजियारा जोय।।२०९८।।
He who keeps his head safe maintains his dignity, while one who loses his head loses his honor. Like a lamp's wick, he who cuts it makes the light shine bright.
शीतलता संजोगलै, शूर चढ़ा संग्राम। अबकै भाजन परत है, शिर साहब के काम।।२०९९।।
Coolness comes with timing, and the warrior engages in battle. Now the vessel is being prepared for the work of the Lord.
धर सों शीश उतारिके, डारि देह ज्यों ढेल। कोई शूर को सोहसी, घर जाने का खेल।।२१००।।
By placing the head on the ground and discarding the body like a stone, One who is brave and honorable, for them returning home is a game.
शूरा के तो शिर नहीं, दाता के धन नाहिं। पतिव्रता के तन नहीं, सुरति बसैं पिय माहिं।।२१०१।।
The brave have no head, the donor has no wealth. The devoted wife has no body, yet her essence resides in her husband.
दाता के तो धन घना, शूरा के शिर बीस। पतिबरता के तन सही, पत राखै जगदीस।।२१०२।।
The donor has great wealth, the brave have twenty heads. The devoted wife’s body is proper, she protects her husband.
शीश खिसै सांई लखै, भलवां का असवार। कदम कबीरा किलकिया, केता किया शुभार।।२१०३।।
When the head moves, the Lord sees; the good ones have horses. Kabir’s steps are joyous; what he did was auspicious.
लालच लोभ न मोह मद, एकल भला अनीह। हरिजन सौरा राम सो, शिर बिन कदै न होय।।२१०४।।
Greed, desire, and delusion do not affect the one who is single and calm. The true devotee of Ram, such a person never loses his head.
भागा भला न होयगी, मुंह मोस घर दूर। सांई आगै शीसदै, सोच न कीजै शूर।।२१०५।।
Fortune will not improve; the mouth may be distant from home. Before the Lord, bow down your head; do not think of being brave.
शूरा सन्मुख बाहता, कोई न बांधे धीर। पर दल मोरन रन अटल, ऐसा दास कबीर।।२१०६।।
A brave man remains unmoved before his enemy, and no one can bind his courage. But in the battlefield of life, Kabir says, such steadfastness is rare.
नेह निबाहे ही बनै, सोच बनें न आन। तन दै मन दै शीस दै, नेह न दीजै जान।।२११७।।
Love is nurtured by fulfilling promises, not by mere thoughts. One should offer their body, mind, and head, and not just talk of love.
पंच असमाना जब लिया, तब रन धसिया शूर। दिल सौंपा शिर उॅबरा, मुजरा राम हजूर।।२११९।।
When the five elements are mastered, the battlefield becomes a place for the brave. One offers their heart and head, and the divine Ram is pleased.
रन धसिया ते उॅबरा, आया गरह निंवास। घरूं बधावा बाजिया, औ जोवन की आस।।२१२०।।
The brave rise from the battlefield and return to their home. Celebrations at home and the hope of life continue.
जब लग धर पर सीस है, शूर कहावै कोय। माथा टूटै धर लरै, कमद कहावै सोय।।२१२१।।
As long as the head is on the ground, one is called a hero. When the head is broken while fighting, only then is one called a true warrior.
रन रोही अतिही हुआ, साजन मिला हुजूरि। शूरा शूरा ठाहरा, भाजिगई भक भूमि।।२१२६।।
The battlefield has become intense, and the beloved has met the lord. The brave stand firm, while the coward flees the earth.
बसही साथ कलतरो, धीर न बंधै कोय। भागा पीछे बाहुरे, ठाठ गुसांई सोय।।२१२८।।
When living together, the constant quarrels are not bound by patience. The coward flees and returns, while the lord enjoys the pomp.
लडने को सबही चला, शस्त्रह बांधि अनेक। साहब आगै आपना, जूझैगा कोई एक।।२१३०।।
Everyone goes to fight, with many weapons bound. In front of the lord, only one will truly struggle.
तीर तुबक सों जो लडै, सो तो शूर न होय। माया तजि हरि को भजै, शूर कहावै सोय।।२१३४।।
One who fights with arrows and guns is not truly brave. One who renounces illusion and worships the lord is truly brave.
ज्ञान कामना लौ गुनां, तन तरकस मन तीर। भलका बहै है सारका, मारै हदफ कबीर।।२१३६।।
Knowledge is the fire of desire, the body is the quiver and the mind is the arrow. True value flows from this, says Kabir, aiming at the target.
राम झरोखै बठिके, सबका मुजरा लेय। जैसी जाको चाकरी, तैसी सबको देय।।२१४२।।
Sitting at the window of Ram, receiving all greetings. Each is given according to their service to him.
चोपड़ मांडी चौहटे, अरध उरध बाजार। कबिरा खेलै रामसों, कबंहु न आवै हार।।२१४३।।
The game is played on a board with four squares, and half the market. Kabir plays with Ram, never facing defeat.
हारौं तो हरि मान है, जो जीतूं तौ दाव। पारब्रह्म सों खेलतां, जो शिर जाय तो जाव।।२१४४।।
If I lose, it is the honor of Hari, if I win, it is the wager. Playing with the Supreme Being, whether the head is lost or not.
खेल जु मांड़ा खिलाडि सौं, आनंद बढा अघाय। अब पासा काहूपरौ, प्रेम बंधा युग जाय।।२१४५।।
The game is played with the players, and joy increases. Now the dice are cast, and love binds the ages.
कूकरा बहु जुरिमुआ, सलसै चढी सियार। रोवत आवै गदहड़ा, प्रमोधत आय बिलार।।२१४७।।
The dog is very guilty, the jackal climbs on it. The donkey cries, while the cat comes in joy.
हंस बुगांके पावना, कोइक दिन का फेर। बगुला कहा गरबिया, बैठा पंख बिखेर।।२१५६।।
The swan waits at the pond, a turn of a day. The crane, proud and boastful, sits with its feathers spread.
हीरा हरि को नाम है, हिरदै भीतर देख। बाहर भीतर भरि रहा, ऐसा आप अलेख।।२१६२।।
The jewel is the name of the Lord; look within the heart. It fills both inside and outside, this is the true sign.
राम रतन धन मुक्ति में, खान खुली घट माहिं। सेतमेतही देतहों, ग्रोहक कोई नाहिं।।२१६७।।
The jewel of Ram’s name is in liberation, the treasure is open within the vessel. It is given with conditions, but there is no buyer.
बिनवत हूं कर जोरि कै, सुनु गुरु कृपा निधान। संतन में सुख दीजिये, दया गरीबी ज्ञान।।२१७८।।
I humbly plead with folded hands, listen, O treasure of grace. Grant me peace among saints, and the knowledge of compassion and poverty.
कबिरा करता है बीनती, सुनौ संत चितलाय। मारग सिरजनहार का, दीजै मोहिं बताय।।२१७९।।
Kabir makes a plea, listen, O saints, carefully. Show me the path of the Creator, and reveal it to me.
सांई तेरे जोर जुलम है, मेरा होय अकाज। बिरद तुम्हारो लाजि है, शरण परे की लाज।।२१८१।।
O Lord, your power and oppression are evident, while my plea is useless. Your reputation is at stake, and the honor of seeking refuge is on the line.
क्या मुख ले बिनती करूं, लाज आवत है मोहि। तुम देखत अवगुन किया, कैसे भाऊं तोहि।।२१८२।।
How can I make a plea with my face? I am filled with shame. You see my faults, how should I approach you?
तुझ में औगुन तुझहि गुन, तुझ गुन औगुन मुझ। जो मैं विसरूं तुझकौं, तू मति बिसरै मुझ।।२१८४।।
You have faults within you and virtues within you; your virtues and faults are within me. If I forget you, you forget me as well.
साहब तुम जनि बीसरौ, लाख लोग मिलिहाहिं। हमसे तुमकूं बहुत हैं, तुमसे हमको नाहिं।।२१८५।।
O Lord, do not forget me; even if millions come together. We have much to offer you, but you give us nothing in return.
तुम्हे बिसारे क्यों बनै, मैं किस शरने जाउं। शिव विरंचि मुनि नारदा, तिनके हृदय न समाउं।।२१८६।।
Why should I be forgotten by you? Where should I go for refuge? Even Shiva, Vishnu, and Sage Narada, their hearts cannot contain it.
कबिरा भूलि बिगारिया, तू ना कर मैला चित्त। साहब गरुवा चाहिये, नफर बिगारो नित्त।।२१८७।।
Kabir has made a mistake and ruined himself; do not make your heart dirty. O Lord, what is needed is humility, not continuous defilement.
कबिरा भलि बिगारिया, करि करि मैला चित्त। नफर भि एसा चाहिये, साहब से राखै हित्त।२१८८।।
Kabir has ruined himself, making his heart dirty repeatedly. Even punishment should be such that it preserves the Lord's goodwill.
औगुन मेरा बापजी, बखशो गरीब निवाज। जो मैं पूत कपूत हों, तोहि पिता कों लाज।।२१९०।।
My faults are my inheritance, O merciful one, forgive me. If I am a wayward son, then you, as my father, will be shamed.
मुझ में गुन एकौ नहीं, जान राय शिर मौर। तेरे नाम प्रताप सों, पाऊं आदर ठौर।।२१९२।।
There is not a single virtue in me, O Lord, you know it well. By the glory of your name, I receive respect and honor.
मैं खोटा सांई खरा, मैं गाधा मैं गार। मैं अपराधी आतमा, सांई शरन उबार।।२१९३।।
I am flawed, but the Lord is perfect; I am impure and foolish. I am a sinful soul; O Lord, save me by your grace.
सुरति करौ मम साइयां, हम हैं भवजल माहि। आपही मर जांयंगे, जो नहिं पकरो बाहिं।।२१९५।।
O Lord, keep my mind focused on you, for I am drowning in the ocean of existence. I will surely perish if you do not hold my hand.
और पतित तो कूप है, मैं हों समुद्र समान। मोहिं टेक तोह नाम की, सुनियो कृपा निधान।।२१९६।।
Others may be like a well, but I am like an ocean of sin. I rely only on your name; O treasure of mercy, please listen to me.
औसर बीता अल्पतन, पीव रहा परदेश। कलंक उतारो रामजी, भानो भरम अंदेश।।२१९७।।
The time of youth has passed, and my beloved remains far away. O Lord, remove the stain of doubt and deception.
सांई मेरा सावधान, मैं ही भया अचेत। मन बच करम न हरि भजा, ताते निष्फल खेत।।२१९८।।
My Lord is vigilant, but I have been careless. Neither in mind, word, nor deed have I worshiped the Lord, thus my field has become barren.
अबकी जो सांई मिलै, सब दुख आंखो रोइ। चरणों ऊपर शिर धरों, कहूं जो कहना होइ।।२१९९।।
If I meet my Lord this time, I will weep away all my sorrows. I will place my head at His feet and say whatever is in my heart.
कबिरा सांई तो मिलैंगे, पूछंगे कुशलात। आदि अंत की सब कहूं, उर अंतर की बात।।२२००।।
When I meet my Lord, He will inquire about my well-being. I will tell Him everything, from the beginning to the end, and all that lies within my heart.
अंतरजामी एक तूं, आतम के आधार। जो तुम छांड़ो हाथ तो, कौन उतारै पार।।२२०१।।
You are the knower of all hearts, the support of the soul. If you let go of my hand, who will help me cross the ocean of existence?
अलख इलाही एक है, नाम धराया दोय। कहै कबीर दो नाम सुनि, भरम परो मति कोय।।२२०४।।
The divine is one, though names are two. Kabir says, hearing two names creates confusion and doubt.
राम रहीमा एक है, नाम धराया दोय। कहै कबीर दो नाम सुनि, भरमि परौ मति कोय।।२२०५।।
Ram and Rahim are one, though names are different. Kabir says that hearing two names leads to confusion and misperception.
काशी काबा एक है, एकै राम रहीम। मैदा इक पकवान बहु, बैठि कबीरा जीम।।२२०६।।
Kashi and Kabah are the same, as are Ram and Rahim. Kabir sits and eats, reflecting on the unity in all.
एक वस्तु के नाम बहु, लीजै वस्तु पहिचान। नाम पक्ष नहिं कीजिये, सार तत्त्व ले जान।।२२०७।।
Many names exist for one thing; recognize the essence rather than focusing on names. Understand the true nature of things.
नाम अनन्त जो ब्रह्म का, तिनका वार न पार। मन मानै सौ लीजिये, कहै कबीर बिचार।।२२०८।।
The name of the infinite Brahman cannot be fully understood by words. Accept the truth with your mind, Kabir says.
देखनही की बात है, कहने को कछु नाहिं। आदि अंत को मिलि रहा, हरिजन हरिही माहिं।।२२१३।।
It is not a matter of seeing or speaking; it is beyond that. The beginning and end are found in the divine, within the heart of the devotee.
सबै हमारे एकहैं, जो सुमिरै हरि नाम।। वस्तु लही पहिचान कै, बासन सों क्या काम।।२२१५।।
All are one who remembers the name of Hari. What use is identifying objects, when you have the essence of devotion?
हद्द छांडि बेहद गया, लिया ठीकरा हाथ। भया भिखारी दीन का, दर्शन भया सनाथ।।२२१७।।
Leaving the limited, one attains the infinite, holding a bowl. The beggar became humble, and the vision became pure.
हद्द छांडि बेहद गया, अबरन किया मिलान। दास कबीरा मिलि रहा, सो कहिये रहमान।।२२१८।।
Leaving the limited, one attains the infinite, and the coverings were removed. The servant Kabir found the divine, that is to say, Rahman.
बेहद बिचारौ हद तजौ, हद तजि मेलो आस। सबै अलिंगन मेटिकै, करौ निरन्तर वास।।२२१९।।
Consider the infinite, abandon the limited, and with the abandoning of limits, live in constant embrace.
बेहद्द अगाधी पीव है, ये सब हदके जीव। जे नर राते हद्दसो, ते कदी न पावै पीव।।२२२१।।
The infinite nectar is beyond limits, yet these creatures live within bounds. Those who are confined by limits can never taste this nectar.
हदमें पीव न पाइये, बेहद में भरपूर। हद बेहद की गम लखै, तासौं पीव हजूर।।२२२२।।
One cannot find the nectar within limits; it is abundant in the infinite. Understanding the essence of limits and the infinite reveals this nectar.
हद बेहद दोनों तजी, अबरन किया मिलान। कहै कबीर ता दास पर, वारों सकल जहान।।२२३१।।
Having transcended both limits and the infinite, and having attained unity, says Kabir, the servant bows to the entire world.
जन कबीर बंदन करै, किस विधि कीजै सेव। बार पार की गम नहीं, नमो नमो निज देव।।२२३५।।
The devotee Kabir asks, how can service be performed? There is no knowledge of crossing the barrier; thus, one should continuously bow to their own deity.
मांस अहारी मानवा, प्रत्यक्ष राक्षस जानि। ताकी संगति मति करै, होइ भक्ति में हानि।।२२३६।।
A person who consumes meat is known to be a visible demon. Associating with such a person harms one's devotion.
ब्राह्मन राजा बरन का, और पवनी छत्तीस। रोटी ऊपर माछली, सब बरन भये खबीस।।२२४३।।
Brahmins, kings, and people of all varnas and professions eat fish with their bread. All varnas have become corrupt.
कलियुग केरा ब्राह्मना, मांस मछलिया खाय। पांय लगे सुखमानई, राम कहे जारि जाय।।२२४४।।
In the Kali Yuga, Brahmins eat meat and fish. Even if they touch their feet, they will perish, says Ram.
पापी पूजा बैठिकै, भखे मांस मद दाइ। तिनकी दीक्षा मुक्ति नहिं, कोटि नरक फल होई।।२२४५।।
The sinner who sits in worship, with hunger for flesh and intoxication. His initiation does not lead to liberation, instead results in millions of hellish consequences.
काटि कटि जबह करै, या पाप संग का भेस। निश्च राम न जानही, कहै कबीर संदेस।।२२५२।।
Those who butcher and commit sacrifices, adopting the guise of sin, Will certainly not know Ram, says Kabir's message.
अंडा किन बिसमिल किया, घुन किया किन हलाल। मछली किन जबह करी, सब खाने का ख्याल।।२२५५।।
Who slaughtered the egg and made it permissible to eat? Who butchered the fish? Everyone is focused only on what they eat.
मुल्ला तझै करीम का, कब आया फरमान। घट फोरा घर घर किया, साहब का नीसान।।२२५६।।
Mulla, when did you receive the command from Karim (God)? You go from house to house breaking vessels, claiming it as a sign from God.
काला मुंह करि करद का, दिल सूं दई निवार। सब सूरति सुबहान की, अहमक मुला न मार।।२२६२।।
They have blackened their faces with the knife, removing religion from their hearts. All forms belong to God, but the foolish Mulla does not understand.
कबिरा साई पीर हैं, जो जानै पर पीर। जो पर पीर न जानि है, सो काफिर बपीर।।२२६५।।
Kabir says, 'A true saint is one who feels the pain of others. Those who don't feel the pain of others are infidels and without faith.'
कबीर गुर बसै बनारसी, सिष समंदां तीर। बिसारया नहीं बीसरै, जै गुंण होई सरीर।।२२६७।।
Kabir says, 'The guru resides in Varanasi, and the disciple by the ocean's shore. The virtues of the guru never fade from the disciple's body.'
जो है जाका भावता, जदि तदि मिलसी आइ। जाकौं तन मन सौंपिया, सो कबहूं छाड़ी न जाइ।।२२६८।।
Whatever one desires, it will come to them. Whoever you dedicate your body and mind to, they will never leave you.
स्वामी सेवक एक मत, मन ही मैं मिलि जाइ। चतुराई रीझै नहीं, रीझै मन कै भाइ।।२२६९।।
Master and servant share the same mind, they merge in spirit. Cunning does not please, only the love of the heart does.
