Renunciation and selflessness, affection towards the Lord. Worldly desires remain separate, this is the belief of the saint.
A saint does not abandon saintliness, though millions may find the opposite. Like the breeze that pierces the Malaya hills, he does not abandon his coolness.
Leaving one thing, he holds onto another, like a calf holding onto its mother's milk. A saint renounces faults and embraces virtues.
Within the body, there are soothing words and the speech is pleasant. Kabir says, such a saint cannot be touched by time.
People of today meet and then part ways. They seek their own gain, swearing by Ram's name.
Gambling, theft, informers, interest, and disdainful women. Those who seek true vision should avoid these things.
Kabir says, I have no one, I belong to no one. Just as a boat reaches the other shore, people meet and then part ways.
The meeting of saints brings supreme happiness, which is known to be greater than all other pleasures. The swan resides in the lake of honor, while the heron dwells in its own place.
Meeting saints brings happiness, while meeting the wicked causes sorrow. Serve the saints, and your life will be fulfilled.
Association with saints is never futile. Just as iron turns to gold when touched by the philosopher's stone.
A saint who is neither honored nor dishonored is truly calm. Such a saint has crossed the ocean of worldly existence and is unaffected by the teeth of time.
Compassion, humility, devotion, equality, and good nature—these are the qualities of a saint, says Kabir.
Those days are gone when association with saints was common. Without knowledge, life is like that of an animal, and without devotion, one is lost.
This age of Kali has arrived, and no one knows the true saints. The lustful, angry, and foolish are worshipped instead.
A saint's behavior is like that of an elephant, who walks free from bonds. The world’s dogs may follow, but they do not heed the noise.
A saint should be one whose presence is hidden, and whose speech covers countless faults.
Saints act according to their purpose, and once their purpose is served, they move on. Kabir says, without purpose, who will believe in the need?
Without purpose, nothing comes; with purpose, everything happens. Kabir says that just as water and saints do not stay in one place, they move on.
A saint should be one who fulfills all requests and does not abandon even in adversity. Such a saint's presence enriches and multiplies.
