धीरे-धीरे रे मना, धीरे सब कुछ होय। माली सींचे सौ घड़ा, ऋतु आए फल होय।।५।।
Slowly, slowly, O mind, everything happens in its own time. The gardener may water with a hundred buckets, but the fruit will only come when it is in season.
माँगन मरण समान है, मति माँगो कोई भीख। माँगन से तो मरना भला, यह सतगुरु की सीख।।१४।।
Begging is akin to death; do not ask for alms. Better to die than to beg, such is the teaching of the true Guru.
गारी ही सों ऊपजै, कलह, कष्ट और मींच। हारि चले सो साधु है, लागि चले सो नीच।।१७।।
From harsh words arise conflict, suffering, and pain. The one who steps back is a saint, the one who retaliates is lowly.
कबीरा, धीरज के धरे, हाथी मनभर खाय। टूटे एक के कारने, स्वान घर-घर जाय।।५६।।
Kabir says, patience can fill an elephant’s belly, but a dog will go home if its bone breaks.
ऊँचे पानी न टिके, नीचे ही ठहराय। नीचा हो सो भरिए पिए, ऊँचा प्यासा जाय।।५७।।
Water cannot remain high; it settles at the bottom. The lower it is, the more it fills and quenches thirst, while the higher it is, it remains thirsty.
सबते लघुताई भली, लघुता ते सब होय। जैसे दूज का चंद्रमा, शीश नवै सब कोय।।५८।।
The greatest virtue is humility, from which everything else emerges. Like the second moon, everyone bows their head before it.
साँईं ते सब होत है, बन्दे ते कछु नाहिं। राई ते पर्वत करे, पर्वत राई माहिं।।८६।।
Everything comes from the Divine; nothing comes from individuals. A mountain is made from a mustard seed, and a mustard seed is within the mountain.
अपने-अपने साख की, सब ही लीनी जान। हरि की बात दुरंतरा, पूरी न कहूँ पहचान।।९२।।
Everyone has their own reputation; all are aware of it. The words of the Divine are profound; I cannot fully describe them.
आवत गारी एक है, उलटन होय अनेक। कहै कबीर न उलटिए, वही एक की एक।।९४।।
An insult may come in one form, but its effects are numerous. Kabir says, do not get distressed; it is all the same.
कबीरा गरब न कीजिए, कबहूँ न हंसिये कोय। अजहूँ नाव समुद्र में, का जाने का होय।।१००।।
Kabir advises not to be proud or laugh at others. Even if the boat is in the ocean, one does not know what will happen next.
भज दीना कहूँ और ही, तन साधुन के संग। कहैं कबीर कारी गजी, कैसे लागे रंग।।१३६।।
Worship the poor and be in the company of saints. Kabir says, how can the color of a blacksmith be perceived?
ये तो घर है प्रेम का, खाला का घर नाहिं। सीस उतारे भुँई धरे, तब बैठें घर माहिं।।१३८।।
This is a house of love, not the house of a maternal uncle. Only when you remove your pride and place your head on the ground, can you sit in this home.
ॠद्धि सिद्धि माँगो नहीं, माँगो तुम पै येह। निसि दिन दरशन शाधु को, प्रभु कबीर कहुँ देह।।१४६।।
Do not ask for wealth and powers, ask for this instead: To see the saints day and night, O Lord, says Kabir.
क्षमा बड़े न को उचित है, छोटे को उत्पात। कहा विष्णु का घटि गया, जो भुगु मारीलात।।१४७।।
Forgiveness is not appropriate for the mighty, but for the weak it causes chaos. Where did Vishnu’s vessel go, for it is bound to suffer the consequences.
कबीर सतगुर ना मिल्या, रही अधूरी सीष। स्वाँग जती का पहरि करि, धरि-धरि माँगे भीष।।१५२।।
Without finding the True Guru, the head remains incomplete. Wearing the disguise of a hermit, one keeps begging for blessings.
भारी कहौं तो बहुडरौं, हलका कहूं तौ झूठ। मैं का जाणी राम कूं, नैनूं कबहूं न दीठ।।१६३।।
If I say it is heavy, then it becomes burdensome; if I say it is light, it seems false. I do not know the essence of Ram; I have never seen Him.
उज्जवल देखि न धीजिये, वग ज्यूं माडै ध्यान। धीर बौठि चपेटसी, यूँ ले बूडै ग्यान।।१८९।।
Do not be misled by brightness, like a moth attracted to light. Those who sit patiently and discern, will attain true knowledge.
एक दिन ऐसा होएगा, सब सूँ पड़े बिछोइ। राजा राणा छत्रपति, सावधान किन होइ।।२०८।।
A day will come when everyone will lay down; kings, rulers, and warriors all will be rendered helpless.
कबीर कहा गरबियौ, काल कहै कर केस। ना जाणै कहाँ मारिसी, कै धरि के परदेस।।२११।।
Kabir says, why be proud? Death may strike you anytime, anywhere, and in any foreign land.
गाँठी दाम न बांधई, नहिं नारी सों नेह। कह कबीर ता साध की, हम चरनन की खेह।।२२५।।
He doesn't tie money in a knot, nor does he attach himself to women. Kabir says, I am the dust of such a saint's feet.
हैवर गैवर सघन धन, छत्रपती की नारि। तास पटेतर ना तुलै, हरिजन की पनिहारि।।२२७।।
Wealth, horses, elephants, and a queen of a king cannot compare to a servant of Hari.
जिहिं धरि साध न पूजि, हरि की सेवा नाहिं। ते घर भड़धट सारषे, भूत बसै तिन माहिं।।२२८।।
The home where saints are not respected and Hari is not served, that house is like a cremation ground, inhabited by spirits.
रोड़ा है रहो बाट का, तजि पाषंड अभिमान। ऐसा जे जन है रहै, ताहि मिलै भगवान।।२३९।।
The path is rocky; forsake hypocrisy and pride. Such a person who remains humble will meet God.
कबीर चेरा संत का, दासनि का परदास। कबीर ऐसैं होइ रक्षा, ज्यूँ पाऊँ तलि घास।।२४०।।
Kabir is the servant of the saint and the handmaid's messenger. Kabir seeks protection as the grass grows under the foot.
स्वामी सेवक होय के, मनही में मिलि जाय। चतुराई रीझै नहीं, रहिये मन के माय।।२९४।।
When the master and servant become one in mind, cleverness and pretense hold no value. Remain simple at heart.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिन, नारी कूकरी होय। गली-गली भूँकत फिरै, टूक न डारै कोय।।२९६।।
Without devotion to the Guru, a woman becomes like a stray dog, wandering from street to street, and no one gives her even a crumb.
पशुआ सों पालो परो, रहू-रहू हिया न खीज। ऊसर बीज न उगसी, बोवै दूना बीज।।२९९।।
Raise and nurture even animals, but do not lose patience. Seeds sown in barren land will not grow, even if you sow twice as much.
टेक न कीजै बावरे, टेक माहि है हानि। टेक छाड़ि मानिक मिलै, सत गुरु वचन प्रमानि।।३०७।।
Do not be stubborn, O fool, as stubbornness leads to loss. Abandon it, and you will find gems; this is the true Guru’s teaching.
दोय बखत नहिं करि सके, दिन में करूँ इक बार। कबीर साधु दरश ते, उतरैं भव जल पार।।३१३।।
One cannot perform rituals twice a day, but if done once a day, it is sufficient. Kabir says, by seeing the saint, one can cross the ocean of worldly life.
कबीर दर्शन साधु के, खाली हाथ न जाय। यही सीख बुध लीजिए, कहै कबीर बुझाय।।३१८।।
Do not visit a saint with empty hands. Kabir says, learn this lesson, that visiting a saint should involve giving something.
साधुन की झुपड़ी भली, न साकट के गाँव। चंदन की कुटकी भली, ना बूबल बनराव।।३२४।।
A saint's humble abode is better than a village of misers. A small piece of sandalwood is better than a heap of brambles.
क्यों नृपनारि निन्दिये, पनिहारी को मान। वह माँग सँवारे पीववहित, नित वह सुमिरे राम।।३२६।।
Why criticize a king’s wife and honor a water carrier? She who carefully fetches water for her husband and constantly remembers Ram is of higher value.
साधू जन सब में रमैं, दुख न काहू देहि। अपने मत गाड़ा रहै, साधुन का मत येहि।।३३६।।
The saint dwells in everyone and causes no harm to anyone. He sticks to his own belief, and this is the belief of the saints.
साधू-साधू सबहीं बड़े, अपनी-अपनी ठौर। शब्द विवेकी पारखी, ते माथे के मौर।।३३८।।
All saints are great, each in their own place. The discerning word is like a crown on their head.
सदा कृपालु दु:ख परिहरन, बैर भाव नहिं दोय। छिमा ज्ञान सत भाखही, सिंह रहित तु होय।।३४०।।
Always compassionate and removing sorrows, free from feelings of enmity. Forgiveness and wisdom are his speech, without pride like a lion.
दया गरीबी बन्दगी, समता शील सुभाव। येते लक्षण साधु के, कहैं कबीर सतभाव।।३५३।।
Compassion, humility, devotion, equality, and good nature—these are the qualities of a saint, says Kabir.
साधु ऐसा चाहिए, जहाँ रहै तहँ गैब। बानी के बिस्तार में, ताकूँ कोटिक ऐब।।३५७।।
A saint should be one whose presence is hidden, and whose speech covers countless faults.
पाँच सात सुमता भरी, गुरु सेवा चित लाय। तब गुरु आज्ञा लेय के, रहे देशान्तर जाय।।३६७।।
After filling oneself with virtues of humility, and dedicating oneself to the service of the guru, one may then receive the guru's command and go to foreign lands.
मन मैला तन ऊजरा, बगुला कपटी अंग। तासों तो कौवा भला, तन मन एकहि रंग।।३६९।।
The mind is impure and the body is outwardly clean, like a deceitful heron. Compared to such a person, a crow is better as its body and mind are of the same color.
आब गया आदर गया, नैनन गया सनेह। यह तीनों तब ही गये, जबहिं कहा कुछ देह।।३७५।।
When you say 'give me something,' respect, honor, and affection all go away. These three depart only when you ask for something.
अनमाँगा उत्तम कहा, मध्यम माँगि जो लेय। कहैं कबीर निकृष्टि सो, पर धर धरना देय।।३७६।।
Not asking is the best; asking and receiving is average. Kabir says, asking for something lowers one's dignity.
अनमाँगा तो अति भला, माँगि लिया नहिं दोष। उदर समाता माँगि ले, निश्च्य पावै योष।।३७७।।
Not asking is very good; there is no fault in asking if necessary. One should be content with what is received through begging.
तोहि पीर जो प्रेम की, पाका सेती खेल। काची सरसों पेरिकै, खरी भया न तेल।।३८४।।
If you play with the true love of the guru, it is like pressing raw mustard seeds; it will not turn into oil.
मूरख को समुझावते, ज्ञान गाँठि का जाय। कोयला होय न ऊजला, सौ मन साबुन लाय।।३८७।।
Explaining to a fool is like trying to remove the dirt from coal; no matter how much soap you use, it won't become clean.
तरुवर जड़ से काटिया, जबै सम्हारो जहाज। तारै पर बोरे नहीं, बाँह गहे की लाज।।३९६।।
If a tree is cut at its root, the ship cannot be controlled. There is no shame in clinging to the mast of the ship.
द्वार थनी के पड़ि रहे, धका धनी का खाय। कबहुक धनी निवाजि है, जो दर छाड़ि न जाय।।४०७।।
Those who linger at the door of the rich suffer from the kick of their wealth. Sometimes, the wealthy are gracious, but they never leave their door.
दया और धरम का ध्वजा, धीरजवान प्रमान। सन्तोषी सुख दायका, सेवक परम सुजान।।४०९।।
The flag of compassion and righteousness is flown by the patient. The contented and wise servant is the giver of happiness.
भक्ति भाव भादौं नदी, सबै चली घहराय। सरिता सोई सराहिये, जेठ मास ठहराय।।४११।।
Devotion is like the monsoon river, which flows loudly. Praise that river which remains calm in the summer month.
पकी हुई खेती देखि के, गरब किया किसान। अजहुँ झोला बहुत है, घर आवै तब जान।।४२७।।
Seeing the ripe harvest, the farmer feels proud. Only when the bag is full will he understand.
समुझाये समुझे नहीं, धरे बहुत अभिमान। गुरु का शब्द उछेद है, कहत सकल हम जान।।४३७।।
One who is taught does not understand, holding much pride. The words of the Guru are an antidote; we all know this.
मरण भला तब जानिए, छूट जाए हंकार। जग की मरनी क्यों मरें, दिन में सौसौ बार।।४५५।।
Death is only understood when pride is shed. Why die the worldly death, a hundred times a day?
गुरु गोविन्द करि जानिये, रहिये शब्द समाय। मिलै तो दण्डवत बंदगी, नहिं पल पल ध्यान लगाय।।४७६।।
Recognize the Guru as the Lord and the Sustainer. When you meet him, offer obeisance and not just practice meditation every moment.
गुरु सों ज्ञान जो लीजिए, सीस दीजिए दान। बहुतक भोंदू बहि गये, राखि जीव अभिमान।।४८३।।
When receiving knowledge from the Guru, offer your head as a donation. Many have gone astray due to pride, so protect the soul by offering humility.
सब धरती कागद करुं, लेखनी सब बनराय। सात समुद्र की मसि करुं, गुरु गुण लिखा न जाय।।४९१।।
If the entire earth were paper, and all the trees were pens, and if the seven seas were ink, still the virtues of the Guru could not be written.
जो गुरु पूरा होय तो, शीषहि लेय निबाहि। शीष भाव सुत जानिये, सुत ते श्रेष्ठ शिष आहि।।४९३।।
If the Guru is complete, he accepts the offering of the head (or humility). One who offers his head (or is humble) is considered the best disciple.
गुरु नाम है गम्य का, शीष सीख ले सोय। बिनु पद बिनु मरजाद नर, गुरु शीष नहिं कोय।।५१५।।
The Guru's name is the destination; only those who learn by bowing down can reach it. Without a path or dignity, a person cannot be a true disciple.
गुरु बिचारा क्या करै, शब्द न लागै अंग। कहै कबीर मैली गजी, कैसे लागै रंग।।५१७।।
What can the poor Guru do if his words do not take root? Kabir says, how can a dirty cloth take color?
ऐसा काई ना मिला, जासू कहुं निसंक। जासो हिरदा की कहूं, सो फिर मारे डंक।।५३९।।
I have not found anyone with whom I can speak without fear. When I share my heart, they end up hurting me.
कबीर हरि-रस बरसिया, गिरि परवत बनराय। नीर निवानु ठाहरै, ना वह छापर डाय।।५४७।।
Kabir says, the nectar of God's name rains down on mountains, forests, and wilderness, but it only collects where there is a suitable place.
पशुवा सों पालौ पर्यो, रहु रहु हिया न खीज। ऊषर बीज न ऊगसी, बोवै दूना बीज।।५४८।।
Kabir says, do not lose heart if you find yourself among ignorant beings. Just as seeds will not sprout on barren land, no matter how many you sow.
कबीर गुरु की भक्ति बिनु, राजा रासभ होय। माटी लदै कुम्हार की, घास न डारै कोय।।५५०।।
Without devotion to the Guru, even a king becomes like a beast of burden. Just as clay is used by the potter and grass is not discarded, so is a person without Guru’s devotion.
निगुरा ब्राह्मण नहिं भला, गुरुमुख भला चमार। देवतन से कुत्ता भला, नित उठि भुंके द्वार।।५५१।।
A Brahmin without Guru is not good, while a disciple of the Guru is better even if he is a chamar. A dog, who barks at the door of the gods, is better than a deity without devotion.
हरिजन की लातां भलीं, बुरि साकट की बात। लातों में सुख ऊपजे, बाते इज्जत जात।।५५६।।
The kick of a Harijan is better, than the praise of a miser. Happiness arises from kicks, while respect comes from words.
साधु मिले यह सब टलै, काल-हाल जम चोट। शीश नवावत ढहि परै, अघ्ज्ञ पापन के पोट।।५७३।।
All troubles are alleviated when one meets a saint. Time, circumstances, and death are but minor inconveniences. When one bows to a saint, the burden of sins is lifted.
मानपमान न चित्त धरै, औरत को सनमान। जो कोई आशा करै, उपदेशै तेहि ज्ञान।।५८०।।
One should not be attached to social status or honor, but should instead respect and honor others. Those who seek knowledge will find it through teachings.
साधु आया पाहना, मांगै चार रतन। धुनी पानी साथरा, सरधा सेती अन्न।।५९१।।
When a saint comes as a guest, he asks for four jewels. The hearth, water, and utensils are needed, and with devotion, food is served.
साधु चलत रो दीजिए, कीजै अति सनमान। कहैं कबीर कछु भेट धरु, अपने बित्त अनुमान।।५९२।।
When a saint leaves, let him go with utmost respect. Kabir says, give some gift, according to your means.
कमल पत्र हैं साधु जन, बसै जगत के माहिं। बालक केरि धाय ज्यों, अपना जानत नाहिं।।६०४।।
Saints are like lotus petals in the world, unaware of their own greatness, like a child who does not know its own value.
कुलवंता कोटिक मिले, पंडित कोटि पचीस। सुपच भक्त की पनहि में, तुलै न काहू शीश।।६०७।।
Even if one meets countless noble and learned individuals, none can compare to a true devotee, who is unparalleled.
हयबर गयबर सघन घन, छत्रपति की नारि। तासु पटतरे ना तुले, हरिजन की पनिहारि।।६२७।।
The noble woman of a king cannot be compared to a common woman. The woman who serves the saints is incomparable to her.
मांगन मरण समान है, तोहि दई मैं सीख। कहैं कबीर समुझाय के, मति कोई मांगै भीख।।६४४।।
Begging is akin to death; this is what I teach you. Kabir says, those who ask for alms are like those who beg for their lives.
सहज मिलै सो दूध है, मांगि मिले सो पानि। कहैं कबीर वह रक्त है, जामें ऐंचातानि।।६४५।।
What comes easily is like milk, while what is sought is like water. Kabir says that what is sought with effort is like blood, filled with hardship.
उदर समाता अन्न ले, तनहि समाता चीर। अधिकहिं संग्रह ना करै, तिसका नाम फकीर।।६४७।।
Taking enough food for the stomach is fine, and covering the body with sufficient clothing is acceptable. One who does not gather excess is called a true renunciant.
मांगन गये सो मर रहे, मरै जु मांगन जांहि। तिनतें पहले वे मरे, होत करत हैं नाहि।।६४८।।
Those who go begging are dying, and those who die begging are dead before their time. They are not engaged in any meaningful action.
कबीर गुरु के देश में, बसि जानै जो कोय। कागा ते हंसा बने, जाति बरन कुल खोय।।६५२।।
Kabir says that one who lives in the land of the guru and knows it is like a crow that has become a swan, losing caste, color, and lineage.
कबीर संगत साधु की, जौ भी भूसी खाय। खीर खांड भोजन मिले, साकट संग न जाय।।६६६।।
Kabir suggests that even if one eats simple food in the company of saints, it's better than indulging in rich food in bad company.
शीलवन्त सुर ज्ञान मत, अति उदार चित्त होय। लज्जावान अति निछलता, कोमल हिरदा सोय।।६६९।।
A person of good character possesses deep knowledge, a generous heart, humility, and a pure, gentle nature.
विंतदय धरमक ध्वजा, धीरजवान प्रमान। सन्तोषी सुख दायका, सेवक परम सुजान।।६७१।।
The flag of righteousness is held by the patient; contentment brings joy, and a wise servant is truly skilled.
सेवक स्वामी एक मत, मत में मत मिलि जाय। चतुराई रीझै नहीं, रीझै मन के भाया।।६७३।।
A true servant's mind aligns with the master's; cunningness doesn't win favor, but a heart aligned with devotion does.
ज्ञानी अभिमानी नहीं, सब काहु सो हेत। सत्यवान परमाथी, आदर भाव सहेत।।६८१।।
A wise person is not proud; they are devoted to the welfare of all. The truthful are supreme, embracing respect and humility.
लगा रहै सतज्ञान सो, सबही बन्धन तोड़। कहैं कबीर वा दास सो, काल रहै हथ जोड़।।६८६।।
One who is absorbed in true knowledge breaks all bonds. Kabir says, such a person is a true servant and remains safe from the clutches of time.
काहूं को न संतापिये, जो शिर हंता होय। फिर फिर वाकूं बन्दिये, दास लच्छ है सोय।।६८७।।
Do not trouble anyone who is constantly troubled; the one who repeatedly turns to words is considered to be a true servant.
दासातन हिरदै नहीं, नाम धरावै दास। पानी के पीये बिना, कैसे मिटै पियास।।६९१।।
A true servant does not possess pride; they are known by their devotion. Without drinking water, how can thirst be quenched?
दासातन हिरदै बसै, साधुन सों आधीन। कहैं कबीर सो दास है, प्रेम भक्ति लवलीन।।६९२।।
A true servant resides in the heart and is devoted to the saints. Kabir says such a servant is absorbed in love and devotion.
दास कहावन कठिन है, मैं दासन का दास। अब तो होय रहूं, पांव तले की घास।।६९३।।
To be called a servant is difficult; I am a servant of servants. Now, I remain like the grass underfoot.
कबीर कुल सोई भला, जो कुल उपजै दास। जा कुल दास न ऊपजे, सो कुल आक पलास।।६९४।।
Kabir says, a family is truly noble if it produces a servant. A family where no servant is born is like a barren wasteland.
गुरु समरथ सिर पर खड़े, कहा कमी तोहि दास। रिद्धि-सिद्धि सेवा करैं, मुक्ति न छाड़े पास।।६९५।।
The Guru stands supreme; what deficiency do you perceive, O servant? Wealth and powers may serve, but they do not abandon the pursuit of liberation.
भक्ति दुहेली गुरुन की, नहिं कायर का काम। सीस उतारे हाथ सों, ताहि मिलै निज धाम।।७१६।।
True devotion to the guru is not the work of cowards. One who humbly offers their head and hands to the guru will attain their own abode.
लेने को गुरु नाम है, देने को अन्न दान।। तरने को आधीनता, बूड़न को अभिमान।।७३८।।
To receive, there is the name of the Guru; to give, there is the offering of food. For crossing over, there is humility; for sinking, there is pride.
प्रेम पांवरी पहिरि के, धीरज कज्जल देह। शील सिंदूर भराय के, तब पिय का सुख लेय।।८००।।
Wear the garment of love, and patience will be the eyeliner for the body. When adorned with the vermilion of virtue, then enjoy the happiness of the beloved.
प्रेम बिना धीरज नहीं, बिरह बिना वैराग। सतगुरु बिन जावै नहीं, मन मनसा का दाग।।८०२।।
Without love, there is no patience; without separation, there is no renunciation. Without the True Guru, one cannot overcome the stains of the mind and its desires.
प्रेम भाव इक चाहिए, भेष अनेक बनाय। भावै घर में वास कर, भावै बन में जाय।।८१६।।
One needs only the essence of love, though many disguises are created. Love resides in the heart, but it also manifests in the forest (or natural state).
कबीर गर्व न कीजिये, ऊंचा देखि अवास। काल परे भुंई लेटना, ऊपर जमसी घास।।८५४।।
Kabir, do not be proud, even if you see a high dwelling. Beyond time, the ground remains; above, only grass grows.
कबीर गर्व न कीजिये, चाम लपेटे हाड़। हय बर ऊपर छत्र तट, तो भी देवे गाड़।।८५८।।
Kabir, do not be proud, you are just bones covered with skin. Even if you have a canopy over your head, you will still be buried.
कबीर गर्व न कीजिये, काल गहे कर केश। ना जानौ कित मारि हैं, क्या घर क्या परदेस।।८६१।।
Kabir, do not be proud, death has grabbed your hair. You do not know when it will strike, whether at home or abroad.
कबीर गर्व न कीजिये, इस जोबन की आस। टेसू फूला दिवस दस, खंखर भया पलास।।८६२।।
Kabir, do not be proud of youth, it will not last long. Just as the palash flower blooms for ten days and then dries up.
कबीर केवल नाम कह, शुद्ध गरीबी चाल। कूर बड़ाई बूड़सी, भारी परसी झाल।।८६७।।
Kabir says, speak only the name of God and live a life of pure simplicity. False pride will drown you like a heavy stone in water.
कबीर बेड़ा जरजरा, कूड़ा खेवन हार। हरुये हरुये तरि गये, बूड़े जिन सिर भार।।८७५।।
Kabir, the boat is fragile, and the boatman is weak. Those who have faith crossed safely, but those burdened with pride sank.
राजपाट धन पायके, क्यों करता अभिमान। पड़ासी की जो दशा, भई सो अपनी जान।।८९२।।
Why be proud after gaining wealth and power? The fate that befell your neighbor will soon be yours.
माटी कहै कुम्हार सो, क्यों तू रौंदे मोहि। एक दिन ऐसा होयगा, मैं रौदूंगी तोहि।।९०५।।
The clay says to the potter, 'Why do you trample on me?' One day will come when I will trample on you.
पाकी खेती देखि के, गरबहिं किया किसान। अजहूं झोला बहुत है, घर आवै तब जान।।९२२।।
Seeing clean farming, the farmer is proud. Even now, the bag is full, only when he returns home will he realize.
अति हठ मत कर बावरे, हठ से बात न होय। ज्यूं ज्यूं भीजे कामरी, त्यूं त्यूं भारी होय।।९४८।।
Do not be excessively stubborn, for stubbornness does not help. As the cloth gets wet, it becomes heavier.
सत ही में सत बांटई, रोटी म ते टूक। कहैं कबीर ता दास को, कबहुं न आवै चूक।।९५१।।
In truth, truth is shared, like pieces of bread are divided. Says Kabir to the servant, never let there be any error.
कबीर आप ठगाइये, और न ठगिये कोय। आप ठगे सुख ऊपजै, और ठगे दुख होय।।९५९।।
Kabir says, let yourself be deceived, do not deceive others. Deceiving others brings sorrow, while being deceived brings peace.
मान अभिमान न कीजिये, कहैं कबीर पुकार। जो सिर साधु न नमैं, तो सिर काटि उतार।।९६२।।
Do not be proud, Kabir proclaims loudly. If the head does not bow to the saint, it should be cut off.
बहते को मत बहन दो, कर गहि एचहु ठौर। कह्यौ सुन्यो मानै नहीं, शब्द कहो दुइ और।।९६९।।
Do not let the flowing one keep flowing, hold them at this place. If they do not listen to your words, say them twice more.
कबीर तहां न जाइये, जहं तो कुल को हेत। साधुपनो जानै नहीं, नाम बाप को लेत।।९७५।।
Kabir says, do not go where there is attachment to family lineage. Where they do not understand sainthood, and take pride in their family name.
ऐसी बानी बोलिये, मन का आपा खोय। औरन को शीतल करै, आपहु शीतल होय।।९७७।।
Speak such words that the ego is lost. They soothe others and also bring peace to oneself.
जग में बैरी कोय नहीं, जो मन शीतल होय। या आपा को डारि दे, दया करे सब कोय।।९८०।।
In the world, there is no enemy if the mind is calm. Abandon your ego, and everyone will show compassion.
खोद खाद धरती सहै, काट कूट बनराय। कुटिल बचन साधु सहै, और से सहा न जाय।।९९३।।
The earth endures digging and cutting, the forest endures chopping. The saint endures harsh words, but they are unbearable for others.
शीतल शब्द उचारिये, अहं आनिये नाहिं। तेरा प्रीतम तुझहि में, दुसमन भी तुझ माहिं।।९९४।।
Speak gentle words, do not bring in ego. Your beloved is within you, as is your enemy.
सहज तराजू आनि कै, सब रस देखा तोलि। सब रस माहीं जीभ रस, जु कोय जानै बोलि।।१०१८।।
Bringing the scale of simplicity, all tastes were weighed. Among all tastes, the taste of the tongue is the best for those who know how to speak.
जरा कुत्ता जोबन ससा, काल अहेरी नित्त। दो बैरी बिच झोंपड़ा, कुशल कहां सो मित्त।।१०४२।।
Old age is like a dog, youth is like a rabbit, and Death is the constant hunter. In the hut between these two enemies, where is safety, friend?
काल फिरै सिर ऊपरे, हाथों धरी कमान। कहैं कबीर गहु नाम को, छोड़ सकल अभिमान।।१०४९।।
Death hovers over your head with a bow in hand. Kabir says, hold onto the name (of God) and abandon all pride.
हाथों परबत फाड़ते, समुन्दर घट भराय। ते मुनिवर धरती गले, का कोई गरब कराय।।१०८३।।
Mountains are torn by hands, and the oceans fill up. The sage embraces the earth, what can pride achieve?
स्वारथ का सबको सगा, सारा ही जग जान। बिन स्वारथ आदर करै, सो नर चतुर सुजान।।१०८९।।
Everyone is dear to themselves, the whole world knows this. One who shows respect without self-interest is truly wise and learned.
मरुं पर मांगू नहीं, अपने तन के काज। परमारथ के कारनै, मोहि न आवै लाज।।११००।।
I do not beg for anything in the desert of life or for personal needs. For the sake of selflessness, I feel no shame.
मेरे मन में परि गई, ऐसी एक दरार। फाटाफटिक पषान ज्यूं, मिलै न दूजी बार।।११०६।।
A crack has appeared in my mind, like a stone split. It cannot be found again once it has been broken.
साधु ऐसा चाहिए, आई देई चलाय। दोस न लागै तासु को, शिर की टरै बलाय।।११७६।।
One should seek a saint who guides well and is free from faults. To such a person, one should bow down with reverence.
मोटी माया सब तजैं, झीनी तजी न जाय। पीर पैगम्बर औलिया, झीनी सबको खाय।।११७८।।
Gross illusion can be abandoned by all, but subtle illusion cannot be easily left behind. Saints, prophets, and holy people all fall prey to the subtle illusion.
काहु जुगति ना जानिया, किहि बिधि बचै सुखेत। नहिं बंदगी नहिं दीनता, नहिं साधु संग होत।।१२१६।।
Without knowing the right method, how can one attain happiness? There is neither devotion, nor humility, nor association with saints.
क्रोध अगनि घर घर बढ़ी, जलै सकल संसार। दीन लीन निज भक्त जो, तिनके निकट उबार।।१२३९।।
Anger is a fire that grows in every house, burning the entire world. Those who are devoted and humble find refuge close to them.
अहं अगनि हिरदै जरै, गुरु सों चाहै मान। तिनका जम न्यौता दिया, हो हमरे मिहमान।।१२४९।।
The fire of ego burns in the heart. Those who desire respect from the guru are invited by death as guests.
मद अभिमान न कीजिये, कहैं कबीर समुझाय। जा सिर अहं जु संचरे, पड़े चौरासी जाय।।१२५०।।
Do not be proud or arrogant, says Kabir. If pride and arrogance reside in the mind, one remains in the cycle of 84 lakh births.
कबीर गर्व न कीजिये, रंक न हंसिये कोय। अजहूं नाव समुद्र में, ना जानौं क्या होय।।१२५१।।
Kabir says, do not be proud or laugh at the poor. Even now, the boat is in the ocean; we do not know what will happen.
प्रभुता को सब कोई भजै, प्रभु को भजै न कोय। कहैं कबीर प्रभु को भजै, प्रभुता चेरी होय।।१२५४।।
Everyone worships power, but no one worships the Lord. Kabir says, to worship the Lord is to become a servant of divine power.
लघुता में प्रभुता बसै, प्रभुता से प्रभु दूर। कीड़ी सो मिसरी चुगै, हाथी के सिर धूर।।१२५५।।
Divinity resides in humility, while pride keeps one distant from the divine. The ant eats sugar, while the elephant’s head is covered with dust.
बड़ा बड़ाई ना करै, बड़ा न बोलै बोल। हीरा मुख से कब कहै, लाख हमारा मोल।।१२५७।।
One should not boast of greatness; one should not speak grandly. How often does a diamond speak of its own value?
बड़ा हुआ तो क्या हुआ, जैसे पेड़ खजूर। पंथी को छाया नहीं, फल लागे अति दूर।।१२६०।।
What is the use of being great if one is like a date palm tree? It gives no shade to travelers and its fruits are very far.
कबीर अपने जीवते, ये दो बांता धोय। मान बड़ाई कारनै, अछता मूल न खोय।।१२६१।।
Kabir says while living, these two things should be avoided: pride and greatness, for they never diminish one's true essence.
मान बड़ाई कूकरी, धर्मराय दरबार। दीन लकुटिया बाहिरै, सब जग खाया फार।।१२६२।।
Pride and greatness are like a dog's collar in the court of righteousness. The poor and humble are left outside, while the whole world is consumed by this pride.
मान बड़ाई ऊरमी, ये जग का व्यवहार। दीन गरीबी बन्दगी, सतगुरु का उपकार।।१२६३।।
Pride and greatness are the norms of this world. True benefit comes from humility, poverty, and devotion, as guided by the True Guru.
बड़ा बड़ाई ना करे, छोटा बहु इतराय। ज्यौं प्यादा फरजी भया, टेढ़ा टेढ़ा जाय।।१२६५।।
A great person should not boast, and a small person should not be overly proud. Just as a fake person becomes crooked and misguided.
काला मुख कर मान का, आदर लावो आग। मान बड़ाई छांड़ि के, रहौ नाम लौ आग।।१२६८।।
The black face of pride brings respect and honor. Abandon pride and greatness, and live in the light of truth.
बग ध्यानी ज्ञानी घने, अरथी मिले अनेक। मान रहित कबीर कहैं, सो लाखन में एक।।१२६९।।
Many learned and wise people are found, and many hearse carriers are seen. But Kabir says that the one without pride is rare among thousands.
ऊंचा देखि न राचिये, ऊंचा पेड़ खजूर। पंखि न बैठे छांयड़े, फल लागा पै दूर।।१२७१।।
Do not admire height; the date palm tree is tall. Birds do not sit in its shade, and its fruits are far away.
ऊंचा पानी ना टिकै, नीचे ही ठहराय। नीचा होय सो भरि पिये, ऊंचा पियासा जाय।।१२७४।।
High water does not stay; it settles at the bottom. The low level is filled up, while high remains thirsty.
मान तजा तो क्या भया, मन का मता न जाय। संत बचन मानै नहीं, ताको हरि न सुहाय।।१२७६।।
What is gained by renouncing pride if the mind is not controlled? One who does not heed the words of the saints is not favored by the Divine.
लेने को हरिनाम है, देने को अंनदान। तरने को है दीनता, बूड़न को अभिमान।।१२७९।।
To receive is the name of God, to give is charity. To be saved requires humility, while pride leads to downfall.
निन्दक दूर न कीजिये, कीजै आदर मान। निर्मल तन मन सब करै, बके आन ही आन।।१२८१।।
Do not drive away the critic; respect and honor them. Keep the body and mind pure, and continue to honor them.
आपन को न सराहिये, और न कहिये रंक। क्या जानो केहि ब्रिष तलि, कूरा होइ करंक।।१२८८।।
Do not praise yourself or consider yourself lowly. How can you know what is hidden beneath the surface?
आपन को न सरारिये, पर निन्दिये न कोय। चढ़ना लम्बा धौहरा, ना जाने क्या होय।।१२९०।।
Do not criticize yourself or others. The climb is long and steep; who knows what will happen.
निन्दक मेरा जनि मरो, जीवो आदि जुगादि। कबीर सतगुरु पाइये, निन्दक के परसादि।।१२९१।।
Do not consider the critic as dead; the soul lives on. Kabir says, the true guru is found through the grace of the critic.
काहू को नहिं निन्दिये, चाहे जैसा होय। फिर फिर ताको बन्दिये, साधु लच्छ है सोय।।१२९६।।
Do not criticize anyone, no matter how they are. Instead, repeatedly bind yourself, for the true sage is one who is gentle.
जौ तू सेवक गुरुन का, निन्दा की जब बान। निन्दक नेरे आय जब, कर आदर सनमान।।१२९७।।
If you are a servant of the guru and you are hit by the arrow of criticism, when the critic approaches, show respect and honor.
तिनका कबहूं न निन्दिये, पांव तले जो होय। कबहूं उड़ि आंखो परै, पीर घनेरी होय।।१२९८।।
Do not criticize even a small straw that is under your feet. It may fly up and fall on your eyes, causing great pain.
निन्दक नियरे राखिये, आंगन कुटी छवाय। बिन पानी साबुन बिना, निरमल करे सुभाय।।१२९९।।
Keep the critic near, as a small hut in the courtyard. Without water and soap, it remains clean in its own way.
श्रम ही ते सब होत है, जो मन राखे धीर। श्रम ते खोदत कूप ज्यों, थल में प्रगटै नीर।।१३३०।।
Everything is achieved through effort when one remains patient. Just as digging a well brings out water, persistent labor reveals results.
जब तू आया जगत में, लोग हंसे तू रोय। ऐसी करनी ना करो, पीछे हंसे सब कोय।।१३३१।।
When you entered the world, people laughed while you cried. Do not act in a way that will make people laugh at you later.
चिउंटी चावल ले चली, बिच में मिल गयी दाल। कहैं कबीर दो न मिलै, इक ले दूजी डाल।।१३६८।।
An ant carried away a grain of rice, but got a bit of lentil too. Kabir says, if you can't have both, take one and leave the other.
कुंजर मुख से मन गिरा, खुटै न वाको आहार। कीड़ी कन लेकर चली, पोषन दे परिवार।।१३९३।।
An elephant drops food from its mouth, yet its nourishment is not diminished. An ant carries a grain to feed its family.
दीन गरीबी दीन को, दंदुर को अभिमान। दुंदुर तो विष से भरा, दीन गरीबी जान।।१३९७।।
Humility belongs to the humble, pride belongs to the arrogant. Arrogance is filled with poison, understand the value of humility.
दीन गरीबी बंदगी, साधुन सो आधीन। ताके संग मैं यौं रहूं, ज्यौं पानी संग मीन।।१३९८।।
Humility and service are the true devotion, and the humble are dependent on the saints. I wish to stay with them just as a fish stays in water.
दर्शन को तो साधु हैं, सुमिरन को गुरु नाम। तरने को आधीनता, डूबन को अभिमान।।१३९९।।
The saints are for spiritual vision, the guru's name is for remembrance. Humility is the means to cross the ocean of life, while pride leads to drowning.
कबीर सबते हम बुरे, हमते भल सब कोय। जिन ऐसा करि बूझिया, मीत हमारा सोय।।१४००।।
Kabir says, 'I am the worst of all, everyone else is better than me.' The one who understands this is my true friend.
कबीर नवै सो आपको, पर को नवै न कोय। घालि तराजू तोलिये, नवै सो भारी होय।।१४०१।।
Kabir says, 'The one who bows down considers himself humble, but doesn't bow to others.' If you weigh on a scale, the one who bows down is actually heavier.
नहिं दीन नहिं दीनता, संत नहिं मिहमान। ता घर जम डेरा किया, जीवत भया मसान।।१४०२।।
Where there is no humility or humble behavior, where there are no saints or guests, death has made its home there, and the house becomes a living graveyard.
नीचे नीचे सब तिरै, संत चरण लौ लीन। जातिहि के अभिमान ते, बूड़े सकल कुलीन।।१४०३।।
Those who remain humble and devoted to the feet of saints, sail through life. But those who are proud of their caste drown despite their high status.
इक बानी सो दीनता, सब कछु गुरु दरबार। यही भेंट गुरु देव की, संतन कियो विचार।।१४०४।।
One word of humility is everything in the Guru's court. This is the true offering to the Guru, as realized by the saints.
दीन लखै मुख सबन को, दीनहि लखै न कोय। भली बिचारी दीनता, नरहु देवता होय।।१४०५।।
Everyone sees the humble face, but no one truly understands humility. Those who embrace true humility can rise from a human to a divine being.
बुरा जो देखन मैं चला, बुरा न मिलिया कोय। जो दिल खोज्या आपना, मुझसा बुरा न कोय।।१४०६।।
I went in search of the bad, but I found none. When I searched my own heart, I found no one worse than myself.
मिसरी बिखरी रेत में, हस्ती चुनी न जाय। कीड़ी ह्वै करि सब चुनै, तब साहिब कूं पाय।।१४०७।।
Just as it is impossible to find sugar scattered in the sand, one must become a worm to search thoroughly and find the Lord.
दीन गरीबी बंदगी, सबसो आदर भाव। कहैं कबीर सोई बड़ा, जामे बड़ा सुभाव।।१४०८।।
Humility, poverty, and service are the highest virtues. Kabir says that the one who embodies these traits is truly great.
एक साधे सब साधिया, सब साधे सब जाय। ज्यों जल सींचे मूल को, फूले फले अघाय।।१४६७।।
By mastering one, all is mastered; by trying to master all, everything is lost. Like watering the root of a plant, it flowers and fruits abundantly.
कबीर जात पुकरिया, चढ़ि चंदन की डार। बाट लगाए ना लगे, फिर का लेत हमार।।१४७१।।
Kabir says, the fragrance of sandalwood spreads on its own. If the path is already fragrant, what more can I add?
काहे हरिणी दुर्बली, चरे हरियरे ताल। लक्ष्य अहेरी एक मृग, केतिक टारे भाल।।१४८४।।
Why is the deer so weak, even though it grazes on green grass? The hunter targets one, but how long can the arrow be avoided?
छव दर्शन में जो प्रमाणा, तासु नाम बनवारी। कहहिं कबीर ई खलक सयाना, इनमें हमहिं अनारी।।१५०९।।
He who sees proof in the six philosophies is known as Banwari. Kabir says, the world is wise, but I remain a simpleton among them.
जानि बूझि जड़ होय रहो, बल तजि निर्बल होय। कहहिं कबीर तेहि संत के, पला न पकरे कोय।।१५२३।।
Knowingly, one becomes inert, abandoning strength and becoming weak. Kabir says, no one takes care of such a saint.
ज्यों मुदराद समशान ज्यों, शील सबरूप समान। कहहिं कबीर सावन गती, तबकी देखि झुकाहि।।१५४८।।
Just as the cremation ground is uniform, so is the essence of character. Kabir says, this path (the way of devotion) is to be observed and bowed down to.
धरती जानति आप गुण, कधी न होती डोल। तिल तिल गुरुवी होती, रहित ठीकहु के मोल।।१५७०।।
The earth knows its own quality and never shakes. Each grain of sesame is valuable, even without its worth.
पाव पलक की गमि नहीं, करे काल के साज। बीच अचानक मारिहैं, ज्यों तीतर कों बाज।।१५९४।।
The feet cannot measure the blink of an eye, but death prepares its traps. In the midst, it strikes suddenly, like a hawk on a partridge.
बड़ा तो गए बड़पने, रोम रोम हंकार। सद्गुरु के परचे बिना, चारों वर्ण चमार।।१६०८।।
One may boast of greatness, but without the recognition of the true Guru, they remain a lowly person among the four varnas.
मानुष बिचारा क्या करे, जाके हृदय शून। सोनहा चाक बिठाइये, फिरि फिरि चाटे चून।।१६४९।।
What can a poor human do, whose heart is empty? Set up a golden plate, but still keep licking the dust.
सबकी उत्पति धरती, सब जीवन प्रतिपाल। धरती न जाने आप गुण, ऐसो गुरु विचार।।१६८८।।
The earth gives rise to all and sustains all life. The earth itself does not know its own virtues; thus is the wisdom of the Guru.
सब ही तो लघुता भली, लघुता ते सब होय। ज्यों द्वितीय के चन्द्रमा, नवावै सब कोय।।१६९१।।
All find greatness in humility; through humility, everything is achieved. Just as the second moon does not rise, all must achieve greatness.
हंसि हंसि कंत न पाइए, जिनि पाया तिनि रोइ। जो हांसें ही हरि मिलै, तौ नहीं दुहागनि कोइ।।१७६४।।
One cannot attain the beloved through laughter alone; those who have attained the beloved are those who have wept. If one finds Hari through laughter, there is no bride in the world.
फाड़ि फुटोला बज करौं, कामलड़ी पहिराउं। जिहि जिहि भेषां हरि मिलै, सोइ सोइ भेष कराउं।।१७७६।।
I wear the torn clothes of a beggar, and dress in a tattered robe. I adopt whatever guise I can to meet Hari.
भली भई जु भै पड्या, गई दशा सब भूलि। पाला गलि पांणी भया, ढलि मिलिया उस कूलि।।१७९७।।
The good fortune that once seemed to be the case is now forgotten. The vessel has turned into water, and it has merged with its own shore.
गगन गरजि अंमृत चवै, कदली कवल प्रकास। तहां कबीरा बंदिगी, कै कोई निज दास।।१८१९।।
The sky roars with the nectar of immortality, and the banana plant glows. There, Kabir’s devotion resides, where someone is the true servant.
कबीर सीप समंद की, रटै पियास पियास। समुदहि तिणका करि गिणै, स्वांति बूंद की आस।।१८३२।।
Kabir, the oyster of the sea yearns for the water, counting every grain of sand in the ocean, hoping for a drop of peace.
कबीर कूता राम का, मुतिया मेरा नाउं। गलै राम की जेवड़ी, जित खंचे तित जाउं।।१८४१।।
Kabir, I am a dog of Ram, and my name is Mutia. I move wherever Ram's leash pulls me.
उस संम्रथ का दास हौं, कदे न होइ अकाज। प्रतिब्रता नंगी रहै, तौ उसकी पारिस कौ लाज।।१८४४।।
I am a servant of the almighty, never is there any undone work. The servant remains naked, thus he is the pride of his master.
करता करै बहुत गुंण, औगुंण कोई नांहि। जे दिल खोजौं आपणीं, तौ सब औगुण मुझ मांहि।।१८५८।।
The Creator possesses countless virtues, and no flaws exist. If I search my heart, I find all flaws within me.
औसर बीता अलपतन, पीस रह्मा परदेस। कलंक उतारी केसवां, भांनौ भरंम अंदेश।।१८५९।।
The time for repentance is short, and you are wasting it in ignorance. Remove the stains of sin, for illusion and doubt have taken over.
मांगण मरण समान है, बिरला बंचै कोइ। कहै कबीर रघुनाथ सूं, मतिर मंगावै मोहि।।१८८२।।
Asking is akin to death; few survive this. Kabir asks the Lord to never let him beg.
नां कुछ किया न करि सक्या, ना करणे जोग सरीर। जे कछु किया सु हरि किया, भया कबीर कबीर।।१८९६।।
I have done nothing, nor was I capable of doing anything; my body was not fit for it. Whatever has been done, it was done by God; thus, I became Kabir, Kabir.
सात समुंद की मसि करौं, लेखनि सब बनराइ। धरती सब कागद करौं, तऊ गरू गुण लिख्या न जाइ।।१८९९।।
Even if I turn the seven seas into ink and all the wood into pens, even if I use the entire earth as paper, I still cannot write all the virtues of my Guru.
सांई से सब होत हैं, बंदे से कछु नाहिं। राई से परबत करे, परबत राई मांहि।।१९०६।।
Everything happens through the Lord, nothing through the individual. A mustard seed can turn into a mountain, and a mountain into a mustard seed.
कबीर निज घर प्रेम का, मारग अगम अगाध। सीस उतारि पग तलि घरै, तब निकटि प्रेम का स्वाद।।१९२५।।
Kabir says, the path to the home of love is profound and unfathomable. Only by bowing down and placing one's head and feet there can one truly experience the taste of love.
सूर सीस उतारिया, छाड़ा तन की आस। आगैं थैं हरि मुलकिया, आवत देख्या दास।।१९२७।।
By bowing down, the head is offered, leaving aside the desires of the body. Ahead is the realm of the Lord; thus, the servant sees the Lord coming.
तरवर तास बिलांबिए, बारह मास फलंत। सीतल छाया गहर फल, पंषी केलि करंत।।१९६२।।
The tree takes its time, and bears fruit for twelve months. The cool shade remains, while the birds continue their play.
चंदन की कुटकी भली, नां बंबुर को अवरांऊं। वैसनो की छपरी भलो, नां साषत का बड गाउं।।१९८०।।
A small piece of sandalwood is better than a thousand bumblebees. A small hut of saints is better than a large village of scholars.
जिहं घरि साध न पूजिये, हरि की सेवा नांहि। ते घर मुड़हट सारषे, भूत बसै तिन मांहि।।१९८२।।
Where saints are not honored, and service to Hari is not performed, that house is of no worth, inhabited by ghosts.
है गै गैंवर सघन घन, छत्र धजा फहराइ। ता सुख थैं भिष्या भली, हरि सुमिरत दिन जाइ।।१९८३।।
The dark cloud of thick rain, with the flag fluttering. The comfort of that is better than the heat; by remembering Hari, the day passes peacefully.
निरबैरी निहकांमता, सांई सेती नेह। विषिया सूं न्यारा रहै, संतहि का अंग एह।।१९८९।।
Harmlessness and humility are the essence of love with the divine. Being detached from worldly pleasures, this is the true mark of a saint.
काम मिलावे राम कूं, जे कोइ जांणे राषि। कबीर बिचारा क्या करे, जाकी सुखदेव बोले साषि।।१९९८।।
One who understands the essence of work achieves Ram. What can the poor Kabir do, whom even Sukdev has praised?
ग्यांनी मूल गंवाइया, आपण भये करंता। ताथै संसारी भला, मन मैं रहै डरंता।।२०६१।।
The wise lose their root, becoming proud of their knowledge. Better is the worldly man who lives in fear within his mind.
स्वामी हूंणां सोहरा, दोद्धा हूंणां दास। गाडर आंणी कूं, बांधी चरै कपास।।२०६४।।
The master becomes a groom, the servant becomes a shepherd. Tying the plow to the cow, he grazes the cotton.
स्वांमीं हूवा सीतका, पैकाकार पचास। राम नांम काठै रह्या, करैं सिषां की आस।।२०६५।।
The master became poor, fifty disciples gather. Chanting the name of Ram, they hope for their teacher's grace.
दूर भया तो क्या भया, शिर दै नियरा होय। जग लग शिर सौंपे नहीं, कारज सिद्ध न कोय।।२०८५।।
What if it seems far? When you bow your head, it is close. Without surrendering the head, no task is accomplished in this world.
साधु सती औ शूरमां, राखा रहै न ओर। माथा बांधि पताक सों, नेजा घालैं चोर।।२०९३।।
Saints, virtuous ones, and warriors cannot be protected in any other way. Even if one wraps their head in a flag, thieves will still intrude.
साधु सती औ सिंह को, ज्यों लंघन त्यों शोभ। सिंह न मारै मींडका, साधु न बांधे लोभ।।२०९४।।
Saints, virtuous ones, and lions shine as they cross boundaries. A lion does not harm a mosquito, and a saint is not swayed by greed.
भाव भलका सुरति शर, धर धीरज करतान। मनकी मूठी जहां लगि, चोट तहांहीं जान।।२०९६।।
The essence of virtue is like a sharp arrow; it requires patience to bear. Wherever the mind's grasp is applied, the injury is felt there.
भागा भला न होयगी, मुंह मोस घर दूर। सांई आगै शीसदै, सोच न कीजै शूर।।२१०५।।
Fortune will not improve; the mouth may be distant from home. Before the Lord, bow down your head; do not think of being brave.
बसही साथ कलतरो, धीर न बंधै कोय। भागा पीछे बाहुरे, ठाठ गुसांई सोय।।२१२८।।
When living together, the constant quarrels are not bound by patience. The coward flees and returns, while the lord enjoys the pomp.
कबिरा तोरा मान गढ, मारा पांच गनीम। सीस नंवाया धनी को, साधी बड़ी महीम।।२१४१।।
Kabir's honor is a fortress, defeated by five foes. The head bowed to the wealthy, the earth is humbled.
हंस बुगांके पावना, कोइक दिन का फेर। बगुला कहा गरबिया, बैठा पंख बिखेर।।२१५६।।
The swan waits at the pond, a turn of a day. The crane, proud and boastful, sits with its feathers spread.
बिनवत हूं कर जोरि कै, सुनु गुरु कृपा निधान। संतन में सुख दीजिये, दया गरीबी ज्ञान।।२१७८।।
I humbly plead with folded hands, listen, O treasure of grace. Grant me peace among saints, and the knowledge of compassion and poverty.
क्या मुख ले बिनती करूं, लाज आवत है मोहि। तुम देखत अवगुन किया, कैसे भाऊं तोहि।।२१८२।।
How can I make a plea with my face? I am filled with shame. You see my faults, how should I approach you?
साहब तुम जनि बीसरौ, लाख लोग मिलिहाहिं। हमसे तुमकूं बहुत हैं, तुमसे हमको नाहिं।।२१८५।।
O Lord, do not forget me; even if millions come together. We have much to offer you, but you give us nothing in return.
कबिरा भूलि बिगारिया, तू ना कर मैला चित्त। साहब गरुवा चाहिये, नफर बिगारो नित्त।।२१८७।।
Kabir has made a mistake and ruined himself; do not make your heart dirty. O Lord, what is needed is humility, not continuous defilement.
कबिरा भलि बिगारिया, करि करि मैला चित्त। नफर भि एसा चाहिये, साहब से राखै हित्त।२१८८।।
Kabir has ruined himself, making his heart dirty repeatedly. Even punishment should be such that it preserves the Lord's goodwill.
औगुन मेरा बापजी, बखशो गरीब निवाज। जो मैं पूत कपूत हों, तोहि पिता कों लाज।।२१९०।।
My faults are my inheritance, O merciful one, forgive me. If I am a wayward son, then you, as my father, will be shamed.
सांई केरा बहत गुन, औगन कोई नाहिं। जो दिल खोजों आपना, तो सब औगन मुझ माहिं।।२१९१।।
The Lord has many virtues and no faults. But when I search my own heart, I find only faults within myself.
मुझ में गुन एकौ नहीं, जान राय शिर मौर। तेरे नाम प्रताप सों, पाऊं आदर ठौर।।२१९२।।
There is not a single virtue in me, O Lord, you know it well. By the glory of your name, I receive respect and honor.
मैं खोटा सांई खरा, मैं गाधा मैं गार। मैं अपराधी आतमा, सांई शरन उबार।।२१९३।।
I am flawed, but the Lord is perfect; I am impure and foolish. I am a sinful soul; O Lord, save me by your grace.
मैं अपराधी जनम का, नख शिख भरो बिकार। तुम दाता दुख भंजना, मेरी करो संभार।।२१९४।।
I am a sinner by birth, filled with flaws from head to toe. You are the giver and the destroyer of sorrow; please take care of me.
और पतित तो कूप है, मैं हों समुद्र समान। मोहिं टेक तोह नाम की, सुनियो कृपा निधान।।२१९६।।
Others may be like a well, but I am like an ocean of sin. I rely only on your name; O treasure of mercy, please listen to me.
हद्द छांडि बेहद गया, लिया ठीकरा हाथ। भया भिखारी दीन का, दर्शन भया सनाथ।।२२१७।।
Leaving the limited, one attains the infinite, holding a bowl. The beggar became humble, and the vision became pure.
हद बेहद दोनों तजी, अबरन किया मिलान। कहै कबीर ता दास पर, वारों सकल जहान।।२२३१।।
Having transcended both limits and the infinite, and having attained unity, says Kabir, the servant bows to the entire world.
जन कबीर बंदन करै, किस विधि कीजै सेव। बार पार की गम नहीं, नमो नमो निज देव।।२२३५।।
The devotee Kabir asks, how can service be performed? There is no knowledge of crossing the barrier; thus, one should continuously bow to their own deity.
