साध संग अन्तर पड़े, यह मति कबहु न होय। कहैं कबीर तिहु लोक में, सुखी न देखा कोय।।३८२।।
When there is a gap in the company of saints, this intellect is never right. Kabir says, I have not seen anyone truly happy in all three worlds.
संत कबीर गुरु के देश में, बसि जावै जो कोय। कागा ते हंसा बनै, जाति बरन कुछ खोय।।३८३।।
Whoever resides in the land of the guru of saints becomes transformed. A crow turns into a swan, and caste and varna lose their significance.
तोहि पीर जो प्रेम की, पाका सेती खेल। काची सरसों पेरिकै, खरी भया न तेल।।३८४।।
If you play with the true love of the guru, it is like pressing raw mustard seeds; it will not turn into oil.
काचा सेती मति मिलै, पाका सेती बान। काचा सेती मिलत ही, है तन धन की हान।।३८५।।
One gains intellect with raw (imperfect) means and skill with mature (perfect) methods. Associating with raw means results in loss of body and wealth.
कोयला भी हो ऊजला, जरि बरि है जो सेव। मूरख होय न ऊजला, ज्यों कालर का खेत।।३८६।।
Even coal can become bright if it is burned in the fire. But a fool remains dark, like a field of black soil.
मूरख को समुझावते, ज्ञान गाँठि का जाय। कोयला होय न ऊजला, सौ मन साबुन लाय।।३८७।।
Explaining to a fool is like trying to remove the dirt from coal; no matter how much soap you use, it won't become clean.
साखी शब्द बहुतक सुना, मिटा न मन क मोह। पारस तक पहुँचा नहीं, रहा लोह का लोह।।३८८।।
One may hear many words of wisdom, but if the mind's attachment is not removed, it is like iron that has not reached the touchstone; it remains as iron.
ब्राह्मण केरी बेटिया, मांस शराब न खाय। संगति भई कलाल की, मद बिना रहा न जाए।।३८९।।
The daughters of Brahmins may not consume meat or alcohol, but if they associate with drinkers, they cannot stay away from intoxication.
जीवन जीवन रात मद, अविचल रहै न कोय। जु दिन जाय सत्संग में, जीवन का फल सोय।।३९०।।
Life is like a night of intoxication, and no one remains steadfast. But if one spends the day in the company of saints, the fruit of life is realized.
दाग जु लागा नील का, सौ मन साबुन धोय। कोटि जतन परमोधिये, कागा हंस न होय।।३९१।।
A stain from indigo cannot be removed even with a hundred pounds of soap. No matter how many efforts are made, a crow cannot become a swan.
जो छोड़े तो आँधरा, खाये तो मरि जाय। ऐसे संग छछून्दरी, दोऊ भाँति पछिताय।।३९२।।
If you abandon it, you will face hardship; if you consume it, you will die. Such is the regret of the leech, which suffers in both ways.
प्रीति कर सुख लेने को, सो सुख गया हिराय। जैसे पाइ छछून्दरी, पकड़ि साँप पछिताय।।३९३।।
The pleasure gained from false love is fleeting, like the leech that, having grasped a snake, regrets it.
कबीर विषधर बहु मिले, मणिधर मिला न कोय। विषधर को मणिधर मिले, विष तजि अमृत होय।।३९४।।
Many poisonous creatures are encountered, but not a single gem-holder. If a poisonous snake meets a gem-holder, its poison turns to nectar.
सज्जन सों सज्जन मिले, होवे दो दो बात। गहदा सो गहदा मिले, खावे दो दो लात।।३९५।।
When good people meet, there are two good conversations. But when fools meet, they exchange two blows.
तरुवर जड़ से काटिया, जबै सम्हारो जहाज। तारै पर बोरे नहीं, बाँह गहे की लाज।।३९६।।
If a tree is cut at its root, the ship cannot be controlled. There is no shame in clinging to the mast of the ship.
मैं सोचों हित जानिके, कठिन भयो है काठ। ओछी संगत नीच की, सरि पर पाड़ी बाट।।३९७।।
I realize that the wood is hard; the path becomes difficult when one takes the lowly company, like a river that has lost its course.
लकड़ी जल डूबै नहीं, कहो कहाँ की प्रीति। अपनी सीची जानि के, यही बड़ने की रीति।।३९८।।
Wood cannot be submerged in water; tell me where is the love? Knowing one's own nature, this is the way to grow.
साधू संगत परिहरै, करै विषय का संग। कूप खनी जल बावरे, त्याग दिया जल गंग।।३९९।।
One who leaves the company of saints and indulges in worldly pleasures is like someone who forsakes the Ganges for the water of a pit.
संगति ऐसी कीजिये, सरसा नर सो संग। लर-लर लोई हेत है, तऊ न छौड़ रंग।।४००।।
Associate with such people whose company is like the syrupy nectar; even if they have flaws, do not abandon their company.
