कूकस कूटै कण बिना, बिन करनी का ज्ञान। ज्यौं बन्दूक गोली बिना, भड़क न मारै आन।।१३०२।।
A critic is like a drum without a stick; it makes noise but lacks knowledge. Similarly, a gun without bullets does not fire.
आप राखि परमोधिये, सुनै ज्ञान अकराथि। तुस कूटै कन बाहिरी, कछू न आवै हाथि।।१३०३।।
Preserve yourself with wisdom, for those who speak knowledge but act otherwise gain nothing.
पद जौरै साखी कहै, साधन पड़ि गयी रोस। काढ़ा जल पीवै नहीं, काढ़ि पीवन की होस।।१३०४।।
The position and the story say that the practice has become difficult. One does not drink the water drawn out; how can one drink that which is drawn out?
कथनी थोथी जगत में, करनी उत्तम सार। कहैं कबीर करनी भली, उतरै भोजन पार।।१३०५।।
Words are hollow in this world; action is the essence. Kabir says that good deeds are like nourishing food.
कथनी मीठी खांड सी, करनी विष की लोय। कथनी से करनी करै, विष से अमृत होय।।१३०६।।
Words are as sweet as sugar, but actions are like poison. When actions are taken based on words, the poison turns into nectar.
पढ़ि पढ़ि के समुझावई, मन नहिं धारै धीर। रोटी का संसै पड़ा, यौं कह दास कबीर।।१३०७।।
Even after reading and advising, the mind does not hold steady. The worry about food remains; thus says servant Kabir.
कथनी काची होय गयी, करनी करी न सार। श्रोता वक्ता मरि गया, मूरख अनंत अपार।।१३०८।।
Words have become hollow, and actions lack essence. The speaker and the listener are both lost, endlessly ignorant.
कथनी बदनी छाड़ि दे, करनी सों चित लाय। कर सो जल प्याये बिना, कबहुं प्यास न जाय।।१३०९।।
Give up hollow words, and focus on actions. Without drinking water, thirst cannot be quenched.
कथनी कथै तो क्या हुआ, करनी ना ठहराय। कालबूत का कोट ज्यौं, देखते ही ढहि जाय।।१३१०।।
What is the use of mere words if actions do not persist? Like a fort of sand, it collapses as soon as it is seen.
साखी लाय बनाय के, इत उत अच्छर काटि। कहैं कबीर कब लगि जिये, जूठी पत्तर चाटि।।१३११।।
Bringing together scraps from here and there, Kabir says, when will you stop eating the false leaves?
कथनी के सूरे घने, थोथै बांधै तीर। बिरह बान जिनके लगा, तिनके बिकल सरीर।।१३१२।।
The arrows of hollow words bind the body with dense pain. Those who are struck by the arrows of separation, suffer greatly.
कथनी कथि फूला फिरै, मेरे होयै उचार। भाव भक्ति समझै नहीं, अंधा मूढ़ गंवार।।१३१३।।
Words may appear flowery, but without understanding true devotion and feeling, they are of no use. Such ignorant fools do not comprehend the essence.
पानी मिलै न आप को, औरन बकसत छीर। आपन मन निहचल नहीं, और बंधावत धीर।।१३१४।।
You do not get water, but others are given milk. Your own mind remains unsettled, while you remain steadfast in holding others.
चतुराई चुल्है पड़े, ज्ञान कथै हुलसाय। भाव भक्ति जानै बिना, ज्ञानपनो चलि जाय।।१३१५।।
Cunning is like a burnt stove; knowledge seems to be lost. Without understanding true devotion and feeling, knowledge becomes meaningless.
करनी गर्व निवारनी, मुक्ति स्वारथी सोय। कथनी तजि करनी करै, तब मुक्ताहल होय।।१३१६।।
Actions remove pride, and those seeking liberation should act selflessly. By abandoning mere words and focusing on actions, one achieves liberation.
कबीर करनी आपनी, कबहुं न निष्फल जाय। सात समुद्र आड़ा पड़े, मिलै अगाऊ आय।।१३१७।।
Kabir says, one's own actions never go in vain. Even if seven oceans come in the way, the reward will come eventually.
श्रोता तो घरहीं नहीं, वक्ता बकै सो बाद। श्रोता वक्ता एक घर, तब कथनी का स्वाद।।१३१८।।
The listener is not even present at home; the speaker speaks only later. When the listener and speaker are in the same house, then only the essence of words is understood.
श्रम ही ते सब कुछ बने, बिन श्रम मिल न काहि। सीधी अंगुली घी जम्मो, कबहूं निकसै नाहिं।।१३१९।।
Everything is achieved through hard work; nothing is obtained without effort. Just as ghee cannot come out of a straight finger, success requires labor.
जैसी मुख ते नीकसे, तैसी चालै नाहिं। मानुष नहीं वे श्वान गति, बांधे जमपुर जांहि।।१३२०।।
One's actions should match their words; otherwise, they are not human but like dogs, bound by the noose of fate.
