जो जानहु जगजीवना, जो जानह तो जीव। पान पचायेहु आपना, पनिया मागि न पीव।।१५४२।।
One who understands the essence of life, understands the true self. He digests his own food and does not beg for others’ water.
जो जानहु जिव आपना, करहू जीव का सार। जियरा ऐसा पाहुना, मिले न दूजी बार।।१५४३।।
One who understands his own life, understands the essence of all lives. Such a guest (soul) is rare and does not come again.
जो तू सांचा बानिया, सांची हाट लगाव। अन्दर झारू देइ के, कूरा दूरि बहाव।।१५४४।।
If you are a true merchant, set up a true market. Clean the inside with a broom, and let the falsehood go away.
जो मिला सो गुरु मिला, शिष्य मिला नहिं कोय। छौं लाख छानबे सहस रमैनि, एक जीव पर होय।।१५४५।।
One who meets a true guru, finds a teacher. There is no disciple to be found; even if one searches through hundreds of thousands of people, finding one such soul is rare.
ज्ञान रत्न की कोठरी, चुम्बक दिया है ताल। पारखी आगे खालिये, कुंजी बचन रसाल।।१५४६।।
The treasury of knowledge is like a strong box with a magnetic lock. Only an expert can open it with the key of meaningful words.
ज्यों दर्पण प्रतिबिम्ब देखिए, आप दुनों महं सोई। या तत्त्व ते वा तत्त्व है, याही में पुनि होई।।१५४७।।
Just as you see your reflection in a mirror, you are the same in both the physical and spiritual realms. Whether this is the essence or the essence itself, it is all within you.
ज्यों मुदराद समशान ज्यों, शील सबरूप समान। कहहिं कबीर सावन गती, तबकी देखि झुकाहि।।१५४८।।
Just as the cremation ground is uniform, so is the essence of character. Kabir says, this path (the way of devotion) is to be observed and bowed down to.
झालि परे दिन आथये, अन्तर परिगो सांझ। बहुत रसिक के लागते, वेश्या रह गइ बांझ।।१५४९।।
After the flame burns out, the day turns to dusk. Many pleasure-seekers find themselves left barren, like a courtesan abandoned at dusk.

The twinkling quarrel swings, and nothing remains the same. Even Gorakh is trapped by time; who can say otherwise?

ढाढस देखह मरजीवा को, धर जोरि पैढा पाताल। जीव के अटक माने नहीं, ले गहि निकसा लाल।।१५५२।।
See the assurance given to the dying, even if it reaches the depths of the underworld. The living does not understand the meaning, holding onto the red thread.
ढिग बूडे उछले नहीं, इहै अंदेसा मोहिं। सलिल मोह की धार में, का निंदिआई तोहिं।।१५५३।।
The wooden log does not float even when it is old; this is the feeling in me. In the current of the stream of illusion, how can you be indifferent?
तन संशय मन सुनहा, काल अहेरी नीत। उतपति परले नहिं होता, तब की कही कबीर।।१५५४।।
Body is uncertain, mind is weak, and time is a constant hunter. The creation does not exist beyond, this is what Kabir says.
ताकी पूरी क्यों परे, गुरु न लखाई बाट। ताके बेरा बूड़ही, फिरि औघट घाट।।१५५५।।
Why does the task remain incomplete? The guru does not show the way. When the time is over, it returns to the same old path.
तामस केरे तीन गुण, भंवर लेहि तहं बास। एकहि डारी तीन फल, भाटा ऊख कपास।।१५५६।।
Three qualities of tamas: dwelling in a whirlpool, the fruits of a single branch, and the gourd, sugarcane, and cotton.
ताहि न कहिए परखू, पाहन लखे जो कोय। नर नग या दिल जो लखे, रतन पारखू सोय।।१५५७।।
Do not judge by appearances; the stone reveals only what is within. The wise recognize the value of a person, a city, or a heart.
तीनि लोक टीड़ी भया, उड़े जो मन के साथ। हरि जाने बिनु भटके, पर काल के हाथ।।१५५८।।
All three worlds are like a net, and they move with the mind. Only Hari (God) knows without wandering, but time captures everyone.
तीनि लोक चोरी भया, सर्वस सब का लीन्ह। बिना मूड़ का चोरवा, परा न काहू चीन्ह।।१५५९।।
The three worlds are a theft, everything is absorbed. Without a thief's mask, no one is a thief.
तीनि लोक भो पींजरा, पाप पुण्य भो जाल। सकल जियरा सावज भया, एक अहेरी काल।।१५६०।।
The three worlds are a cage, sin and virtue are traps. All souls are trapped, and time is the hunter.
